  • France has always been a sought after getaway for retirees from across the globe. After-all it is a country that offers everything, the alps, the Mediterranean sea, the Atlantic ocean, vast countryside as well as big metropolitan cities. As a whole it has 13 administrative regions all of which offer unique experience for residents. We have excluded the region where Paris is located as it is the least favorite among retirees. As a whole France boasts a rich culture, some of the best healthcare in the world and highly developed infrastructure. When it comes to visa policies, France does not issue a dedicated visa for foreign retirees. But, most of the retirees opt for one of its long-term residency visas which aren't that difficult to obtain especially if the applicant is hailing from reputable countries.
So here are 12 Regions to Live and Retire in France.

I live in Paris. I spent ten years exploring all the French regions. Then I went around other places (Hungary, Thailand, Spain, Portugal..). And finally - I couldn't choose. So now I'm retired, I'm still in Paris which has the best Air, Rail and Road links and I just go and visit places.

Paris is absolutely magnificent. You must like the cold weather, as I understand the winter can be harsh and long. I have not been in Paris during the winter months. I live in NYC. You're north of me in terms of Latitude. So what's it like? I expect to live part-time in Paris, in the near future.................

Marseille didn’t make the list. It was the capital of the region that was #1 on the list
Provence is the best region of the world. Even better than Tuscany. Yes, I said that.
Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Aix, ChateauNeuf Da Pape.

Why didn't you mention climate as a factor? Lille is nice from May to September. Then the rain, mist and cold come off the North Sea and rip your hide off. You also freeze your ass of in Brittany, Grand Est, and Normandy (which, btw, is know for a hell of a lot more than Omaha Beach). Oh, and although you gave brief mention to some wines, the beers in Strasbourg are some of the smoothest and easiest to drink lagers in the world.

@@mogheanil Typical for Americans to think that the Germans practically invented beer... and that the brewing "tradition" remained. This isn't so. Lager and pilsner exist in Strasbourg because the climate is perfect for growing barley and hops. When traveling to the city by car, one can see the hops fields along the highways. Bonjour de France. Taxes are rising like never before!!! For 20 years now owning a flat or a small house on the "Côte d'Azur" or even in all Provence has becoming harder and harder. By super taxing owners the state is making of them tenants. In Paris 53% more taxe only this year!!!!! France has a monstrous debt and a huge African immigration, just saying...

Au il y a enfin une prise de conscience seul une autre révolution industrielle intelligente sera la solution la prise de conscience est là dessus. Now that the U.K. is no longer a Member State of the European Union, U.K. people are not entitled to the same rights in other Member States as applied heretofore. They are now Third Country Citizens and have limited entitlements as regards length of stay and residency. They voted for Brexit and thought that nothing would change.🤣😂🤣

We have acquaintances who live in Menton. We have heard the same thing. My friends,
go into Monaco and are just amazed at how many Syrians, Moroccans, and others are there. And they go there from France or Italy. There is also St.-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, etc and other communities up the hills and mountains. The people we know just can not believe the numbers of "Illegals" that were in the entire area. There IS "petty crime" in Monaco and it is ALWAYS the very people you have mentioned. What has happened to the area is very discouraging. The good citizens there do NOT deserve to have this happen to them. :)

@@fritzhenning1 The person I know there has very ethically told us that every day, close to 40,000 to 50,000 people enter the Principality to work. They work at the hotels, shops, restaurants, on the yachts, etc. In fact, 70 % percent of the Police Force. are French Nationals. And all of those 40,000 to 50,000 people - responsibly go back home to their families every evening.
I know with certainty that Albert and the entire family and, the rest of government treats their police officers like trash. It is horrible.
She told me that it is all too common an occurrence for people, especially working on the boats for private owners, for the employees (workers) to be cheated out of their wages.
Caroline did a televised interview a years ago, during which she shamelessly admitted that "The Family" perceives Palace employees as "Servants / Slaves". She can never deny that she said it, because it is a retrievable video interview. The family...and the wealthy "Nomads" (that is all they are).....have a very ugly, shameless and nasty social culture of "Negative Class Distinction" towards others.
Added to all of that is the problem with illegal immigrants. Monaco was a LEGEND for being a crime free environment. However, in the past 10 years or so, Italy and France let so many illegal immigrants into their countries, the Moroccans, Syrians and others, violent and other "street crime" in Monaco is just horrible. Only 10 years ago, no one would ever believe it would
      be possible.
Simply put, you are correct. :)
