      @@happygoluckytravel I watched your video on the Musicians quarter. Love that Ara with the Bell Epoque/Haussmanian Buildings, I like the Porte area but don’t want to have to take the train all the time. Also, Carre Do’r is OK and the Jean Medecin area. I like a neighborhood feel not so much touristy.

    Amazing video! This is very helpful. Hoping to sell our home in the DC area someday and move to Nice or surrounding areas. Out of curiosity, is Menton a more affordable alternative to Nice? And are towns across the the border in Italy like Ventimiglia or Bordighera worth considering?

    • @happygoluckytravel
      @happygoluckytravel  15 днів тому +1

      Thank you for watching! Towns across the border in Italy are generally less expensive, but further from a good airport. Bordighera has the most potential of the two. Other than the old town, Ventimiglia isn't as charming, with a lot of day trippers shopping for less expensive food and alcohol. We only know Menton from day trips, we hope to learn more about it!

      Nice is sandwiched between St Laurent du Var on the West and Villefranche sur Mer to the right. It then stretches all the way back to the mountains. Though there are some sheltered parts that give the illusion of greenery it is mostly densly urban. If you want real countryside then you will need to go outside of Nice itself.
      Phillip.

    Isn’t Nice the most polluted(air) city in France? Poor air quality leads to an early death. Edit: If you have the weather app on your phone add Nice to it. You will see the air quality is deteriorating.

      @@happygoluckytravel I just moved to Marmande France on the first of May. My first choice was Nice! I started following the weather conditions and for weeks I noticed the air quality was deteriorating. After reading articles online, I decided against moving there. Below is a brief excerpt from one of the articles.
      This is from an article written by Emilie King:
      Nice, a city known for its beaches and elegant Mediterranean allure has just acquired another less desirable accolade as the town in France with the worst air quality,according to a new study that measured air quality in towns over the period of the last year.
      The high pollution levels are down to a number of local factors: the city is built on a narrow densely-populated coastal strip which has a lot of traffic and long sunny spells.
      These pollution peaks are due to high amounts of ozone gas because of the sun, or due to higher pollutants released by industrial activity and road traffic.
      Air pollution is believed to be the main cause of some 48,000 deaths each year in France, with over 47 million French people exposed to a level of air pollution particles that is considered to be unsafe by the WHO.

      It is actually the opposite. in the last four years the air quality has dramatically improved. The air quality improved during the pandemic, but to the officials surprise, has continued to stay lower, and lower even in 2023 than 2020, the year of the shutdown. The improvement trend has aligned with the deployment of the second tram line and the conversion of streets to reduce traffic. The other grande villes (large cities) in France are worse, led by Paris, Lille, Lyon, Marseilles and others. There are smaller and more remote areas with better air quality, but there are the tradeoffs. The air quality in 2018 was an unusual year, with the wildfires and the prevailing winds that summer. Of course, it could occur again, but it has not. You can look up the recent data at INSEE and IQAir.

    • @philliptemple9841
      @philliptemple9841 2 дні тому +1

      This sounds unlikely. Nice has spent billions developing an excellent public transport system. The two tram lines carry a huge amount of traffic. Hardly any more taxis idling at the airport as the tram goes from the airport to the city centre. They also deleted nearly all the bus lanes, and the remaining buses are all going 100% electric (this is mostly done already). There are some massive parks being built, not just the famous one replacing the Acropolis but for instance next to the Nikaia statium and one is going to be in the ancient abbatoir district. With two young children I am very sensitive to this subject but see no problem with the air quality here.
      Phillip.
