if i had a nickle for every time the camera closed in on one of their eyes...
:O Me too!
I'm so glad I watched this show, because I had my own scenario just like these people had suffered: misdiagnoses, poor communication and unwilling doctors and nurses. That's how I finally checked myself out of one hospital in to St. Josephs Hospital of Atlanta. I had a Meckel's Diverticulum which is an overgrowth of colon along with a pouch that attaches itself to the underside of my belly button. After 24 days in ICU including major surgery, and over 2 months of useless suffering because of the negligence of other doctors, they removed 3 liters of poisonous fluid from my stomach, I was sent home to recover. I knew I had ruptured something, and when I presented my symptoms to a cardiologist, he told me to look up this condition. He was right all along. Thank God I pushed the case, because it definitely was Meckel's Diverticulum. It's only supposed to happen to children? No way.
I wonder how awkward this show must be to shoot. "Okay now DRAMATICALLY CLOSE YOUR EYES while we zoom all the way in on them... okay now do it again! AND AGAIN!" I've watched so many of these now and I can't help but to laugh at the dramatic eye shots.
I was in a pond one day and I cut open my foot with a piece of glass, or a sharp rock. A lot of dirt got in the cut and it was really hard to get out, I couldn't walk that well, And I had to put cream that helps the dirt get out on a lot. I finally went to the doctor and he said, If I don't get this huge, painful shot.. I was gonna die. Because if my foot got infected, it would go through my body and at the worst, my heart would stop. So I got the shot and I'm heathy today too, Glad you better!
i had Lemierre's in 2009. it progressed very quickly. within two weeks i was rushed from the hospital in my home town on the flight for life to the childrens hospital in denver. i also had double pheumonia and blood clots in all my vital organs. i was on the line of death. i spent about a month in both hospitals. Absolutely the worst thing ive ever been through so glad it is over!
What a beautiful and courageous young woman, I'm so glad she's okay today. I had LD in 1995 and spent 3 months in OHSU in Portland. The clots in my case went to my left lung, which was basically became one big abcess. I can relate to everything she said except I craved cranberry juice instead of apple at the end. They let me have a few drops, but that was it. Whenever I drink cranberry juice now, I just sip it. BKOTC (Big kiss on the cheek) from Steven
Thomas, my daughter-in-law had a younger brother who passed away from Lemierre's. The family has started a foundation to raise awareness. You can find them on facebook at Justin E Rodgers Foundation for Lemierre's Awareness. Also check Lemierresyndromedotcom. Had to spell the dot out or it wouldn't post.
Keep informing others-the more educated people become, the better the Doctor's can help-Doctors can only do so much-being an informed patient is an asset to ANY Doctor-Programs like this can only help-as are Mom's like you who continue to educate people-
Information is your best defense against disease-well.......antiboitics too, but you get what I mean;-)
Why is it scary (lol) or why did I have neurosurgery? I had an AVM It is like aneyrism but more rare. I could have become a vegetable. My surgeon was the best and he worked very hard to achieve the best outcome. He asked me how much risk I wanted and if I wanted him to be invasive. I said go for it.
@JiaLunis
There are antibiotics for it so yes. Problem is since it's rare, doctors dont know patients have it. Therefor it can spread easley throughout the patients body.
My mind went 'Yay! Finally something I've learned(anaerobe= bacteria that does not require oxygen for survival) is useful!' then they talked about anaerobic bacteria living in my gut and throat. I think my gut went into my throat about then...
its so sad.. they missed her diagnosis early on... any case of sore throat in an adolescent with fever which is followed by development of a swelling in the neck along the course of internal jugular vein must raise the suspicion of lemierre's syndrome...
she seems like such a nice girl...thank goodness she got a second chance in terms of how serious the disease was and she made it through...and she was very strong throught it all...btw, GO DOCTORS AND MOM! YOU ROCK!
i love this show. a friend of mine was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and i knew to tell him what tests to get because of the "Sleeping Beauty" episode. i think this show can surely help people.
so, i'm sick in bed with a sore throat and a small fever, i decided that it would be a good idea to watch a couple things on youtube to fall asleep to, and i chose this. great. just great. haha
I'm just really glad that she's ok, and that this show gives me a whole new perspective on life, so I shouldn't be so droopy and upset when I have something small like a cold.
This is my favorite episode of Mystery Diagnosis. It's a good thing Meredith had her good friend Ashley to save her life. That still freaks me out - "Who's Maggie?" Aaahhhh!!!!
@joannedelacruz21 Yea I had one hell of a sore throat for a week, it wouldnt go away with any medication, thankfully it went away eventually. Then I saw this, kinda freaked out.
I had Lemierre's Syndrome as well, it went into my lungs though. Worst 5weeks in the hospital. Its really hard. Crazy, i never saw anyone else with it until now.
Not to be rude, but these Mystery Diagnosis shows are so interesting. Pfft, I'm going to be way ahead in health class
too bad he's 200,000 years too late... humans are 200,000 years old... but modern medicine is like 70-80 years old.
You have no idea of consequence) Or you just want to undergo a brain surgery because of a caught =3
i scrolled down to look at the comments for a sec and when i scroll back up to watch the video i see them cutting up her brain O.O
well it's a good thing he does~ he may be one of the doctor's that manages to find an answer to a family with a mysterious illness.
I'm going through the same thing right now! All I can now think of is myself having this.. better call my doctor tomorrow.
i feel so sorry for her i mean i dont i could have made it through that i mean i would have complained alot more than her
hahahaahaa! it like the game plague inc.! an enlarged lemmiere's syndorme bioweapon will take over te world! lol XD
It's quite possible. Also, the antibiotics may not have been powerful enough to quell the infection before it spread.
Life can be so hardy and so frail at the same time. Weird, huh? Means we all have to live every day to the fullest!
2:46 yes woman cause your daughter really likes to hear right before going into surgery that she might Die
I think I'd be glad it was over too. That really stinks! I would say I understand, but I've never had it
you want to study in a caribbean med school then, you watch this. it then that you decide against it
well i know that but i just dont like ppl cutting up organs but yea they save lives doing it
She's a pretty hot looking girl. Glad to see everything went well and all the best for her.
This speaker doesn't make it any better when he says "DEATH" like he was gonna kill her.
@jenaa0101 That's an incredible story. Usually surgeons don't let God operate for them.
@amber12345678999 My brother is a doctor and watches this all the time he loves it.
I highly doubt you are her mother...you would be taking care of her, not on youtube.
those bacteria must be profilers getting past the fibrous astrocytes so easily...
whhhyy ammm iiii waatttchhhing this it is soo groooosss but i cant click away!!
im very glad its over! i bet it was really scarry! very happy you are well!
@MrsTwilightAddict18 Because the more common dangerous ones get erradicated.
Shes gorgeous in person, but needs to learn how to take a picture! Sheesh!!
That is definately not an appropriate thing to say on a video like this...
Okay, whenever I get a sore throat nowadays, I'm gonna get really paranoid.
apple juice, water, and chocolate milk?? that's an odd combination.
If they don't catch it in time then the bacteria can spread to the brain?
Ive watched so many of these shows! Someone give me a medical degree! :D
Power of suggestion...my throat is growing sore just watching this! lol
I'm sorry, but the mom looks like Melvin from Madagascar :/
the mom looks like willy wonka from charlie and the chocolate factory
It's upsetting to see things like this happen, but I love the brain!
THIS WAS GROSS!! EWWWW!! sssry its jsut gross with the surgery stuff
