I'm so glad I watched this show, because I had my own scenario just like these people had suffered: misdiagnoses, poor communication and unwilling doctors and nurses. That's how I finally checked myself out of one hospital in to St. Josephs Hospital of Atlanta. I had a Meckel's Diverticulum which is an overgrowth of colon along with a pouch that attaches itself to the underside of my belly button. After 24 days in ICU including major surgery, and over 2 months of useless suffering because of the negligence of other doctors, they removed 3 liters of poisonous fluid from my stomach, I was sent home to recover. I knew I had ruptured something, and when I presented my symptoms to a cardiologist, he told me to look up this condition. He was right all along. Thank God I pushed the case, because it definitely was Meckel's Diverticulum. It's only supposed to happen to children? No way.

I wonder how awkward this show must be to shoot. "Okay now DRAMATICALLY CLOSE YOUR EYES while we zoom all the way in on them... okay now do it again! AND AGAIN!" I've watched so many of these now and I can't help but to laugh at the dramatic eye shots.

I was in a pond one day and I cut open my foot with a piece of glass, or a sharp rock. A lot of dirt got in the cut and it was really hard to get out, I couldn't walk that well, And I had to put cream that helps the dirt get out on a lot. I finally went to the doctor and he said, If I don't get this huge, painful shot.. I was gonna die. Because if my foot got infected, it would go through my body and at the worst, my heart would stop. So I got the shot and I'm heathy today too, Glad you better!

i had Lemierre's in 2009. it progressed very quickly. within two weeks i was rushed from the hospital in my home town on the flight for life to the childrens hospital in denver. i also had double pheumonia and blood clots in all my vital organs. i was on the line of death. i spent about a month in both hospitals. Absolutely the worst thing ive ever been through so glad it is over!

What a beautiful and courageous young woman, I'm so glad she's okay today. I had LD in 1995 and spent 3 months in OHSU in Portland. The clots in my case went to my left lung, which was basically became one big abcess. I can relate to everything she said except I craved cranberry juice instead of apple at the end. They let me have a few drops, but that was it. Whenever I drink cranberry juice now, I just sip it. BKOTC (Big kiss on the cheek) from Steven

Thomas, my daughter-in-law had a younger brother who passed away from Lemierre's. The family has started a foundation to raise awareness. You can find them on facebook at Justin E Rodgers Foundation for Lemierre's Awareness. Also check Lemierresyndromedotcom. Had to spell the dot out or it wouldn't post.

Keep informing others-the more educated people become, the better the Doctor's can help-Doctors can only do so much-being an informed patient is an asset to ANY Doctor-Programs like this can only help-as are Mom's like you who continue to educate people-
Information is your best defense against disease-well.......antiboitics too, but you get what I mean;-)

Why is it scary (lol) or why did I have neurosurgery? I had an AVM It is like aneyrism but more rare. I could have become a vegetable. My surgeon was the best and he worked very hard to achieve the best outcome. He asked me how much risk I wanted and if I wanted him to be invasive. I said go for it.

There are antibiotics for it so yes. Problem is since it's rare, doctors dont know patients have it. Therefor it can spread easley throughout the patients body.

My mind went 'Yay! Finally something I've learned(anaerobe= bacteria that does not require oxygen for survival) is useful!' then they talked about anaerobic bacteria living in my gut and throat. I think my gut went into my throat about then...

its so sad.. they missed her diagnosis early on... any case of sore throat in an adolescent with fever which is followed by development of a swelling in the neck along the course of internal jugular vein must raise the suspicion of lemierre's syndrome...
