I would have just not voted. Yeah, they didn’t account for a 50/50, but what about lack of audience participation? Just have the vast majority of the audience refuse to participate. Refuse to make a choice. Would they go with what the few voted on? Would they take notice of the audience’s refusal to play along and make a choice for someone else? Would it be commented upon?
When Ranboo discussed the lack of option for 50/50 he described how impossible it would be for an audience of that size to get to 50/50. The same could be said for a lack of vote, even if only 1% of the viewing audience at the time voted it would have been enough. There was no metric to judge how many votes there were just which had more. So they never had to worry about lack of votes. That said Ranboo also stated he preferred the death ending and likely would have defaulted to that if something went wrong enough that they didn't get an actual successful audience verdict. So if the audience hadn't voted my assumption is they would have improved the gamemaster commenting on it then lead into the death ending.
Honestly, I'm always impressed how these streamers can be so bombastic with their audiance and know how to tell a really good story with commentary. Even during the Dream SM I realized I was fasnated by the story in a lurking gremlin fashion by looking at wikis and reading what other people viewed the story. I'm glad people like Will and Rambo and Slime are playing around with their own stories outside of Dream but I still donno how they do it. And to tell a corhesive story with improve and playing around with how the audiance would respond.... It's hugely impressive and fasinating. Having JUST hit affilate myself, I'm slowly realizing that I have to do more "public speaking" than I did when I was just a dinky nobody with no affilate and that terrifies me but I started to stream to get over that fear. I even added in channel points that are really easy for people to get to to start redeeming that is like "Art History facts" where I had to think one *on the spot* or talk about what books I'm reading/ TBR. It's easier with a PNGtuber, but it's still terrifying when you know you ramble when nervous and talking publicly. (I'm slightly better than when I started but still the anxeity is there). This was a great video on this series as I didn't even know it was happening.
I absolutely love when you sprinkle these types of analysis into your channel especially on such a project like this and that extra bit if angst you added YES
I admit. I love how your delving more and more into fandom related stuff rather than "drama." This isn't to say you can't make videos to spread awareness of certain situations. It's just cool that your talking about this kind of stuff like you did with audio drama which I flippin enjoy and helps me feel less ashamed I listen to ASMR XD
this video brought back the extreme brain rot again, like there's really something about generation loss that really Gets you so emotionally. vividly remembering how i felt watching the ending of the last genloss stream, feeling my heart dropped when the box closed and everything going completely silent after that, and i just sat there just so. stunned and shocked to what just happened. (also when i saw charlie slimecicle streaming mid-way thru stream i just started yelling at my friends in a discord because its like "wait. is charlie already home from genloss????????????" i was wrong. feeling bad for the people who were watching charlie for qsmp) i really do feel like ur animations really captured that feeling. the fear of realizing what's actually going on between ranboo, and the entire show in the end of the warehouse, the feeling of guilt of letting our hero die, and desperate to try and help ranboo and get him the good ending we all wanted for him only for things to just get worse for him and eventually Box'd. we all wanted what was best for ranboo, but honestly i don't think we had that option anyway, especially under showfall's media control ... SORRY TO RAMBLE LOL this video and the animation made is sooo good it really does fuel the brainrot even further
I am very glad you made a video on Generation Loss and essentially invited rants here so...here we go. 7:11 When he realised an audience was watching and he was being actively filmed, I felt more excited then terrified at it. Both for the reason that it was just such a cool moment but also because he now had a chance to get out, to leave. It felt more like a triumph for the character even if he was left spiraling for a bit. I think I even screamed "YES" in my excitement loud enough for people to hear outside my camper. And so he tries to escape, running through the abandoned mall long enough to find an exit. He can leave now. But the "gamemaster" (I forget his name) doesn't exactly want him to. I could be misremebering but I think it was the gamemaster who told him he could save his friends, either that or Ranboo asked him and he affirmed that they could be saved. Even though the one he tried to save, got killed. When I watched him run and push that button live I was ecstatic even though the skeptic in me thought it was too easy. Afterall we were still watching, the mask was still on, and he missed his exit. In the behind the scenes stream Ranboo did he mentioned that his favorite detail in that button scene, is that character Ranboo is walking opposite to where that glowing exit sign is pointing. So when he gave his "final" bow Truman Show style and was pulled in, I was suprised but sort of expected it. Most horror stories don't exactly get happy endings. 13:57 I was able to watch this live after some complications with my internet connection, I didn't have my laptop with me at camp so all I could do was watch on my phone (the interactive components don't work on mobile). At first I had hoped for live, until the gamemaster truly explained what that meant. Then I was praying for 50/50 and so was most of the chat. 14:10 And then he begged. I never had something shake me so hard to the core. To see an innocent character beg for a merciful death rather than to keep playing along. It seemed like a majority of chat agreed to vote for his death, though it wasn’t entirely without reluctance. Another thing Ranboo mentioned was once the mask started flashing after the vote timer ended, the character was gaining back his memories from before. At any point could the gamemaster given him this, at any point. And then the box unceremoniously closes. An abrubt end. (I screamed and teared up man, I wasn't prepared) Then the after credits scene shows us that this story, is just one in a sea of others on a shelf. Just one more to be catalouged in a collection. (We're getting into theory territory here not just reaction, sorry for this long-winding rant, I've been waiting to scream my thoughts) That after credits scene sort of made it feel as though what happened to those characters didn't matter, again just one tape on a shelf. But to them? To the characters there it had been a matter of life and eventually certain death. Whoever or whatever was making/watching/curating these tapes probably only sees them as this. We know what they are to them but we still don't know why yet. Why would an organization or person take time and effort to collect these things? Are they creating them or simply collecting? The thing about Vol. 0 being named The Lostfield Incident stuck out to me. Because, and I'm stealing from film theory here, that was an actual incident where a brutal massacre conducted by a government was covered up with a public square and a misleading plaque. Wether or not it is this incident, another, or even its something entirely fictional another thing that stands out is that its going backwards. Why go from Vol. 1 to Vol. 0? We know this has nothing to do with The Social Experiments so it's not an origin story for Showcast or Ranboo, Ranboo as an actor won't even be in it. So for me personally it might serve as reference or give us hints as to who or what is making or collecting these tapes. Ranboo did mention that he would be releasing small tid-bits of info and videos in the months inbetween so that might clear some things up hopefully. Either that or its a fancy allegory to how we the audience are viewing these stories, getting emotionally invested only to turn it off and move to the next piece of media. Could be both, or neither, I dont really know lol Sorry again, this thing is all over the place and barely coherent but I'm just really excited to exchange theories and express excitment for this incredible thing.
Wow, I think the way you worded it is incredible also I don’t think I could even write something this long to. This is my mini “paragraph” response to an essay written comment. It’s nice to see such a great group of fans theorising about an incredible project. Along with all the fan art and support in this community it’s safe to say that we all have are own thoughts and we can’t wait for more, even if things are going to be getting even darker and more creepy we are all on for the ride of a lifetime.
Thank you for the compliment :) And yeah, I agree, both about this lovely fandom/community and my excitement for whatever horrors Ranboo and his team throws at us next
Watching the voting bar in that final scene tells a story in and of itself. And it shows the love that the audience has for GL!Ranboo. As soon as the option became available everyone voted for live and it became extremely popular. Though as people realized that Live wasn’t as good as it was made out to be the chat devised to try and force a third option through a 50/50. And then with no hesitation after they began to beg we spared them as they wanted. I myself wasn’t watching the chat when it was live (I have an old-ish computer that lags too much when chat is open and going fast) so I sadly was not apart of the 50/50. I voted live the second I proceeded it. And switched as soon as Squiggles said we were able to swap as much as possible. At the time, since I wasn’t aware of what was going on with the 50/50, I was yelling at my screen that people needed to let him die. It was such an intense few minutes. I’m glad we got the outcome we did. I wish the character could know we killed them out of love, and not because we hated them for doing nothing as others died. But we have no clue what’s going through their mind in those last seconds. Maybe we will in the founders cut, though I doubt it.
Sadly, I wasn't able to watch this live, because I only found out about it after the first one came out, and I found it difficult to decipher when the next two episodes were going to come out (curse you, time zones!), and, also, I'm still a student, and I was eepy. ANYWAY, hearing you gush about it, especially referencing how its a hyperfixation, it gives you brainrot, and so on and so forth, has given way for GenLoss to grip me by the neck, and drag me back into its clutches. So, uh, thank you for that ^^
I genuinely wanted Ranboo to be let go. When i discovered what each option meant, I voted for die, I mean, he asked us to kill him. It was a mercy kill in my eyes, I still felt guilty though, don't get me wrong. For me, it was a better option than making Ranboo live in the show forever
Honestly? My initial reaction is Live, and after thinking about it for a few minutes, it's Live. My reaction is that because I) I'm a sadistic bastard, and II) After thinking about it properly, I thought "Well I'd I was in that situation, would I want that?". Answer was still Live I haven't watched it, but judging by this essay, not only is there more than just him, but he is the only one to realise on his own what is going on. Meaning once he's "escaped" as it were, there will be others after him. And more after them, and more after them. People are going to go through the same thing as him over and over again. The dude has a duty of sorts to stop the madness. If I were in his position, I'd try to burn the place to the ground, both to stop other people getting hurt and for revenge So I'd choose Live, so he'd be forced back in. With death unavailable, and escaped improbable, he'd only have one option. I understand it's not fair to force my morality on him, but you aught'nt to have me the button So yeah, Live
I'm a bit late but I found it interesting you didn't touch on the loop theory. Ranboo woke up on the couch at the start in the same position as being crucified. He said something along the lines of 'no its not supposed to be like this', they expected to be dead (or perhaps another ending?). Throughout ep 1 there are mentions of previous shows, like Sneeg going through the cooking show too. Same in ep 2, like Slimecicle having to swallow a piece of mousetrap to stop something from happening before. We know Showfall can revive and reuse people, so why would they just let go of a cast member Theres more to it than that but I'm not great at explaining and my memory is not great so I reccommend going searching. I unfortunately believe Ranboo is likely still stuck in the loop regardless of our decision. I kinda hope he's dead and that Showfall respected our decision or maybe his head was too messed up to be able to get anything back but I find it unlikely. Its a depressing theory that I think to be true. I also wanna touch on the subject of guilt. I didn't watch live, but I still feel incredibly guilty. I think Ranboo stated in a VOD that we technically could have changed something. We were all as manipulated by Showfall as much as Ranboo was but I feel guilty I wasn't there to change something. I know it wasn't even possible but canonically if we had just done something differently maybe Ranboo would have escaped. I don't know what I would have chosen at the end, I might have sat in stunned silence till Ranboo started begging for death and then considered that option more of a mercy than being a cast member forever. But then again, Ranboo would be living in blissful ignorance and have no idea (hopefully... depending on what Showfall does to them). Or then theres the idea that it didn't really matter anyway. Sorry my thoughts are a mess and I've probably remembered something wrong, but I tried putting my mess into semi-organized sentences. I love genloss so much and I hold it to be one of the best things I've ever watched, maybe even the best thing. Loved your video about it, the animations were a lovely touch.
To be honest I've been having that fears that youtube creators ain't that creative like back in the old days but GenLoss now shows me that the experimental side isn't gone thank you for showing me this
i just realized something, Mali, and I'm curious to know your thoughts... You mentioned the mask putting him between a Player and an NPC. What if there had been a reveal in which that had been a factor? Do you think it would have altered the end result? The feelings? Would it have even been good? Would YOU have reacted differently to that reveal?
I don't think it would have swayed the audience's reaction in terms of their feelings towards him. People get attached to rocks with googly eyes so even if he'd been entirely an NPC, the audience still would have reacted the way they did. However, if it had been highlighted there might have been more of a push in the audience to try and get the mask off.
@@MaliMalware That's incredibly fair. What if the reveal had been that his cry of 'JUST LET ME game over' not what i want to say but UA-cam will UA-cam, had been an outside manipulation? He was, as an NPC, made to say that. Would that have altered anything?
I would have just not voted. Yeah, they didn’t account for a 50/50, but what about lack of audience participation? Just have the vast majority of the audience refuse to participate. People loved there "toy" and knew when to let them go...
But good on them that was some voting hell
since this is still my hyperfixation 6 months later, have my little charlie slimecicle rant
