    Drain it with the petcock first to release the pressure and use a hose to drain into a container. Put some fuel on the o-ring to lubricate and don’t over tighten. Clean the housing and cap. Good informative video but definitely prime longer. My ram required like 5 or 10 cycles. The pump only runs the first few seconds to prevent damage so be patient. I have also read on other diesel forums to add some fuel to the canister however I think that might be on the unfiltered side and not a fan of that idea.

    Thanks for the info. I love saving money and doing this stuff myself. It helps offset the expense of owning a diesel.

    Really helpful video! It was much easier than I thought. I used a 1 1/8 6pt socket and it worked perfectly. Appreciate the great content. My start up took as long as yours 🤣.

    My 2020 Wrangler Diesel Supplement says to lube the O-ring with clean engine oil. Yours sounded a little dry coming off, and when you installed it, maybe engine oil will make it smoother (not hating, just pointing it out). I’m getting ready to replace mine for the first time, so I’m doing a little research first. Thanks for the video, it’s nice to see what I am getting into before I do the job.

    Good video. I needed to see how it came out so could make my new skids for my Diesel JULR. I'm putting an access hatch in the skid and only have 8k miles, so I didn't want to remove it!!!

    I just did this the 2nd time and heres what i observed on the priming.
    First time i primed it for a good 15 times, but it ended sounding just like yours.
    Second time i primed it for 30-40 times, and theres still a short cranking but a lot better.
    Ill try do it for more times next time to see if itll make a difference.
    Also ive read the interval on my owners manual and it noted the fuel filter and engine oil has a different internal time if you use B20 blend!

    This is totally worth doing it yourself every 10k miles. The dealers charge $120 just for the filter. It's crazy. Then they will change you 2 hours' worth of work. So about $350 + $120. You decide.

      Precisely. I just did my oil and fuel filter again and for both of them it takes less than 30 mins including cleanup. Fuel filter swap is no lore than 10 mins including sips of beer.

    I was just quoted $263.90 to replace fuel filter and drain water from the fuel filter assembly at a AutoNation Jeep in Golden, Co. These are crackhead prices... This is for a 2021 Wrangler with a Eco Diesel and 3600 miles on it.

    Just changed mine this weekend and this helped so much! I opened the petcock before I began unscrewing the housing and let it drain. Then as the housing got close to the end I opened the petcock once again to drain. Changed the filters and when I replaced the housing I noticed it slightly lock in place in the correct position upon tightening. I also cycled the pressing of the start button pretty slow. It took about 7 cycles and I could here pressure after the 7th cycle. Then when I actually started the vehicle it didn’t make any unusual sounds. Great video keep them coming.
    If you were to take the Jeep to Colorado to do the badge of honor trails what would you do to prep the Jeep if anything?

    Thanks for the video. I primed it 10 times, each time waiting for the fuel pump to be done, still had the same long start as yours. I’m wondering if it’s programmed to do that to purge after a change in fuel pressure.

    You’re supposed to change the fuel filter within 10 minutes of running the engine that’s probably why you had a rough start

  • @BigHomie030
    @BigHomie030 Рік тому

    If you don’t prime your fuel system enough and you try to crank it more then a couple times your battery will drain and you will have to charge it to get the jeep to come back on. That happened to me and I couldn’t figure out why the Jeep wasn’t even cranking anymore.

    Thanks man very helpful first Diesel engine. Question they told me to replace every 15k and there’s two filters I should change?

    • @dieseJL
      @dieseJL  2 роки тому

      15k seems obsessive, I think the manual says 50k. On the wrangler and gladiator there’s only one. On our older grand Cherokee there’s two.

  • @nathanhernandez9615
    @nathanhernandez9615 Рік тому

    This may seem like a really basic question, but how do you dispose of the fuel you drain in the bucket when doing the change? Can you just dispose it at an auto parts store like you can with drained oil from an oil change? Or do you use some other method?

    • @dieseJL
      @dieseJL  Рік тому +1

      Just dump it in with the old oil. It’s practically oil lol

    I have a 2021 Wrangler Sport Unlimited EcoDiesel. After watching this fuel filter replacement video I checked online for MOPAR diesel fuel filters and found P/N 68382328AB and ordered it. What I received was the whole housing assembly. I looked at a Wrangler forum thread and someone indicated their dealer said to get P/N 68436631AA, a Fuel/Water Separator. That looks more like the fuel filter that fits in the housing as shown on your video. Now I am curious to know if there is a fuel/water separator (ie a filter) in the assembly that I purchased. I am going to check with my dealer tomorrow. By the way, the assembly cost me $79.

    Thanks for the video, but with how temperamental this Bosch CP4.2 fuel pump is, particularly when there is air introduced, I'll rest the responsibility with the dealer to change out. I'd rather pay $450 than $6-10K for a new fuel system. Do your homework and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

      whos to say that the people at the dealership know what they are doing. Quite honestly, something thats as easy as this is, Id rather do it myself knowing that it gets done correctly.

    You should have drained it before removing the housing, your reasoning for not doing so makes no sense as you just spilled fuel everywhere. 🤔
