I suppose he could have dashed the support into overwatch with the perk at captain? and I suppose the ranger could have been protected by untouchable.
@@bloodred255 The support was dashed - there's the notification for the 'Ever Viligant'. No one else had line of sight on the sectopod where it was. The overwatches were justified, since if it hadn't been for the repeater they might need the firepower. Biggest problem is that the ranger was likely dashed to that cover in the first place - should have moved everyone else up to keep up with him and not dashed into unknown. However, I suspect the ranger (and possibly the rest of the squad) was in stealth before the dash...
my favorite execution kill was against the berserker queen. first time she showed up (in that playthrough) and everyone was missing. thought my squaddie ranger was about to die, already missed twice. put her into overwatch so she could at least get a shot off before dying. queen charged, game froze for a second, and then the next thing i hear is Bradford saying we killed her. she had maybe one square missing and full armor when she got to the ranger. i didnt even remember giving her the shotgun with execution on it, and i almost jumped out of my chair with how happy i was.
The alien leaders are all so bullshit I always send 2+ snipers with execute (the rifles don't even have any other attachments - I think execute is garbage on sniper rifles so I have separate rifles just for this purpose) and send either a phantom ranger or a reaper to safely spot them so the snipers can just plink them to death with ease.
@@thomasprice7893 If you have a Reaper, why not just go for Banish + advanced/superior repeater + extended mag? With a superior repeater and 7 rounds the chance for an execution is ~79%, with advanced repeater it's still ~52%.

IIRC the aliens didn't pull their punches in the XCOM 2 lore like they did in EU/EW, they just kicked XCOM's butt before it had a chance to reverse engineer alien tech and get the good weapons.
I had a sniper's Superior Repeater kick in twice in three missions. The first was on the Berserker Queen (yay!) and the second was also on a Sectopod. The only other time it went off in that campaign was on an Elite Shieldbearer with about two health left and no shield, when she was on Long Watch. If only the flaming Gatekeeper had moved first!
That ranger is next level blessed. As if the hand of RN-Gesus parted the heavens and guided that plasma shot directly through a weakspot, into the fighting compartment of the vehicle. Killing the driver and saving that man's life. That's xcom baby!

It’s 100% AI, in both games. The bureau is not really accurate in a lot of ways, it’s “broad strokes.” Canon, not every detail canon.
Oh dang, I was thinking it was going to be a deadeye, crit, high roll, specialty ammo type of deal. Always cool to see an execution on a powerful enemy. On the last mission, one of my specialists was just having a terrible time. Constantly triggering waves early, missed like 80% of her Overwatch shots even after holo-targetting was applied, and missed like half of her normal shots. Once the Avatars started popping up, we were about to be flanked next turn. She got the first Overwatch shot and...executed a full HP Avatar. It caused that side's pod to hold back for a turn.

That 5% instant kill chance... and you get it... damn... RNG loves you and hates me... had 99% chance to hit, had to hit the shot or the mission failed... my soldier missed...
had this happened with the archon king lol hit him once to take his armour down and the second hit killed him even though I only took 2 health out and his armour
in my playthrough i must have had less than 5 execution kills, but the very first one was against my first sectopod, big ass scary robot, only to be inmediately destroyed by a lone dude
Their main draw is anti-mech, forced damage, or team wide protection. If you get lucky they can take clip size overwatch shots. The issue is... compared to everything else this isn't as good. Grenadiers and Psi do forced damage, Sharpshooter are anti-mech naturally, and team wide protection is done by killing everything. Specialists are best for overwatch or Sectopods on the fragile objective. With Factions this also means you're replacing one of your base squad... Specialist is the best to replace. Ranger - Rapid Fire and scouting. Grenadier - Deny cover + damage. Sharpshooter - Anti-mech, weak enemies, and priority targets. Psi - AoE initiation, certain kills, no loot destruction. Spark - 3 actions in 1 turn incase of emergencies. Faction character

Depends on the repeater. Superior repeaters on someone who can shoot s lot will proc very often, meanwhile a normal repeater on a ranger may be less useful
Repeaters ought to be stuck on weapons that are going to be shot a lot. Reaper with expanded mag + banish, ranger with double tap and maybe also a hair trigger mod; death from above on anything BUT a sharpshooter, serial with, again, expanded mag or (I think) advanced autoloader, and probably skirmishers, if you are running those. Think about ways to maximize RNG dice-teamwork, any kind of bonus action that isn't parry or free movement, etc. Repeater is a very meta-game type weapon mod. It's not about maximizing damage on a specific shot; it's about maximizing damage long-term due to making informed decisions about how to stack the odds in your favor. But yes. 5% repeater is generally quite bad. 10% is a massive improvement, from 1/20 to 1/10.

I used to before but my current campaign i dont savescum anymore, killed all the chosen already and only lost 2 soldiers.
Takes a few games to get good at it. After a while you don't even bother putting your guys in cover half the time. Enemies never get a turn.
Whenever I play a game I would look at all kind of guides, tips and tricks. Knowledge is power.
Try Ironman on an easier difficulty. You'll get the hang of it. Than you can move up to a harder difficulty setting if you want.

My favorite thing I've learned about sectopods is that:
1: they can be executed.
2: you can hack them and control them
Never works for me when I want it even with Banish, extended mag and "20% instant kill chance". I never get it against a tough enemy.

This guy kills a sector pod with 1 shot cause have a 5% repeated chance and my guys seems to not even hit a target when there's 95% chance to hit
