- Time to get out portable.
There is a ninth reason. Can anyone tell me what it is?

How lucky you are to have such nature beauty to explore around you. Thanks for the refreshing video!
Very clever set up of the antenna, this is hinting me for portable operation.
Precisely, the 9th reason I can see here is the challenge to pack gear that works well with minimal weight and clutter. This is what portable operation is all about, and it's especially true for SOTA.
That is a good 9th reason! It makes you a better and more efficient radio operator.

Have been to so many amazing places that I never would have thought of thanks to SOTA
It has certainly influenced our holiday planning this last while!
All of those were great enough reasons for me!! I’ve got me a rig and it’s time to go climb a mountain!! Thanks for the inspiration!! 73!!

Go for it Mike and let me know how you get on 😀
That was a very enjoyable video to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it. I had good fun making it 🙂
Excellent list 👌 👍
SOTA❤ is my favorite radio activity. It blends well with my favorite outdoor activity, hiking peaks. Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it! SOTA keeps you fit, that's for sure.
bitten by the bug !
thanks for making us feel apart of your expedition 😉
Yes, it is addictive, that's for sure!
Spectacular video shots
Thanks! I had to make the most of the nice weather as it is never around for long at this time of year.
Excellent stuff Fraser!!!
Cheers Tim. Had to make the most of the ideal weather that day.
Well done that man. All good reasons to go out Fraser, but not for me, at my age hi. Warm shack and only qso's over 10klm for me hi. Just going into winter here, so another log on the fire and a wee dram hi.
Have a good weekend, cheers.
Cheers Brian. I climb them so you don't have to!!
9 In SOTA activity, I feel hunted like Bouvet Island 🤣
Ha!!
Managed so far without the Land Rover - hi - but otherwise I could not agree more! Great video Fraser, 73 de Joe
Thanks Joe 😊
I have a spare Land Rover if you ever need one 😁
Good video and I can’t believe how calm it was at the summit. Is the 9th reason Soreen Malt Loaf? 🤔
73 Chris M0RSF
Ha! That is an excellent 9th reason Chris.
My bag is packed and ready for SOTA but the weather in the West has been honking for months, not good enough for this fair-weather activator. Hopefully we have a S2S soon.
I'm lucky to have so many hills on my doorstep, so it is easy to nip out for a couple of hours if the weather is nice. A 40m S2S should be easy enough in the summer. Look forward to it.
Great video Fraser and….snap.
Cheers Chris. Yes, you can draw a few parallels there!
The alarm bell worked. 👍😂
Glad to hear it. Hope it didn't wake you! 🤣
another great vid
Thank you Duncan.
A beautiful day in the hills! 73s Fraser
Thanks Gavin. I actually made this a year ago. I only edited it last month. I don't think anyone has noticed!
@@theradiorover Ha! Family tell me it’s been pretty dreich on Deeside the last couple of days apart from a dusting of snow the other day. But I loved your list of reasons and I really need to get a battery kit together for SOTA 👍
@@gavinthomas8880 it was more than a dusting. I hiked 15 miles on snow up to Mount Keen yesterday. Tired legs today! Yes, you need to get your act together for your next GM vacation. 😄
Yay in the log :-)
Indeed! As you were from Mount Keen the other afternoon. You must be super sloth by now!
@@theradiorover 2500 chaser points
@@excossack you need to get out more 😁
@@theradiorover I do. WFH helps with the chaser stats :-)
@excossack oh, I know. Just joking. Anyway, check your log and see when you worked me on Ladylea Hill. The video isn't all it seems!
what were you using to power your radio?
I normally use an internal 3S Li-ion. I can see from the video that I had my second battery plugged in externally. I do this when the internal one is depleted and drops the power to 5 watts.
Around what time (Zulu time) you usually operate.
Any time! Lately been doing 10m late afternoons and full day hikes. Don't mind getting up early for long path to VK, ZL etc. I'm surrounded by hills and can be up one within 40 mins of leaving home.
Really great video. Love the views, the sound of snow crunching and the sound of silence! 73 de John G0KTW
