    We had the same error code on our GC. We found the recirculating door had completely fallen off and was laying on top of the heater motor preventing any air flow. Remove the heater motor and pushed the door up and wired it up permanently. It works well and always draws fresh air. Cheap fix that works.

    Done this 3x now on WJ Jeeps its under an hour to fix with glove box flipped down & easy to cut the plastic side out of heater. Recirc door can be accessed from above glove box, simple to prop it open or closed, go out and buy a Cheap WJ low miles but with no heater & fix yourself - theyre the best model Jeep maybe best 4x4 bargain out there

    Did you happen to have an issue with the heater box area getting condensation on it and then dripping on to the floor? I am having some of the same issues you are but I am getting water inside the jeep. The drain is free flowing and not plugged. I am lost as how to fix things.

    I have a 2001 cherokee too. I read on some jeep forums that the factory installed the circulation fan wire backwards. So the fan runs in reverse . It sounds like its blowing air but hardly any comes out. I have the same problem , I'm gonna check it out when i get some time.

      Here is the message from the forum : Had the same problem with my 2001 Grand Cherokee. Blower was on, heat was hot, but weak / no air coming from vents. Pulled dash, blend doors were fine. Replaced 4 actuators (at least 2 were dead), blend doors worked perfectly. Found broken vacuum hose under battery platform going into reservoir, replaced that (my cruise control started working). Cleared check valve in vacuum line near firewall, got a bit of air blowing but still not enough. Finally after reading your idea here, pulled the blower motor to check direction of flow. Never considered the fan might be blowing the wrong way! But that was it - it was not blowing up into the VAC system. Reversed the green and brown wires and it started blowing strong through the vents, the defroster and floor vents. AWESOME! Thank you

      I'm going to try this I feel like my air has always been weak. Weak where some vents don't blow as strong

    I suggest after the next time you drive the car,open the glove box and watch the recirc door area when you shut the car off (turn off the ignition) after one or two minutes the computer will try to run the door back and forth a couple times against the stops. The computer does this until something breaks and then the door and shaft spin without the door turning with the shaft anymore. The problems with the blend doors are somewhat the same-the computer is programmed to run the doors back and forth against their stops until something breaks!

    I notice u didn't have it on auto for fan speed and fan direction! My auto mode doesn't work either! I have heard u can pull a fuse and start car for so many seconds then switch off then start again to reset it! Anyone had any luck with this? And how did u do it ?

    I have the same problem. But I just replaced some spring valves on my driver side along with new head gaskets. So having no heat is at the bottom of my listen

    I know you said you don't like shortcuts and you like doing things the right way I'm a mom of 4 kids and my husband i live in arizona it's so hot here I had no air coming out of any vents and every time we went out my kids were sweating a lot we just couldn't go out so I did a quick fix because I had no money to pay someone to take the dash so I did the hanger fix ... And it works great!! You can also do the zip tie fix but that will only bring air from the outside and you will lose recirc ... It's a fix for now attests until I get enough money to replace the door , mine was completely broken and just sitting in the middle you really don't need money for this fix just a little time

    Did you work this out? I have exactly the same problem and I think it is the recirculation door actuator as it grinds on self testing after shut down

    • @tayexdrums93
      @tayexdrums93  9 років тому

      I haven't looked into the problem yet. I had to have the transmission rebuilt and many other sensors replaced since then. This is the least of my problems right now! If you find any information about it please let me know.

    Unfortunately, there's no shortcut to fix this, either. There is for blend door repair, but not the re circulation door or servo. The actuator is about $40, the total repair is around $1,500 due to labor removing the dash, and evacuating the HVAC system. Find parts with metal in place of plastic and go ahead and replace the blend doors at the same time. Also, be sure to check the heater coil while you're in there. This way you won't have to have the dash pulled again. Probably not the news you wanted, but at least it's a solid answer to your issue. Good luck.

    • @yuribrandi8212
      @yuribrandi8212 7 років тому

      1500 ? you need to find another shop, labor cost is just 118 dollars for this repair at most shops. If they charge more ask their rate. Then state that its a 5.9 hour job, why would it cost 1500 ? Normally you'll get a reply of uh, whu and hu. But to show you the cost, even at the highest 5.9 @ 50 an hour = 295 dollars, + 106-120 for the evap, 100-150 for the heater core, and last but not least 69 for the new blend doors, 25 -35 for the new recirculating doors .. and bam. Def not 1500. 600 odd dollars for a very expensive shop, and with 50 dollars an hour I'd expect it done in 3-4.

    • @KaylonH
      @KaylonH 7 років тому

      +Eric Benton, That's roughly the price I was given from 3 different shops, so I don't know. It was high enough for me to just do it myself. Pain of a solo job, but either way I saved some dough.

    Has anyone able to fix the hole on the recirculation button? i dont want to change the hole unit for that, my unit works perfectly, but i just wan to replace the button or fix it, any suggestion? Thanks!

      I replaced the panel because it was faulty, was so happy to have a button that wasn't broken. After pushing it a few times, the new one broke too.

    • @yepezdaniel
      @yepezdaniel 3 роки тому

      @@artistnyc123 I cutted a piece of a credit card, painted it black and glued it to the button. Nobody ever noticed it hehehe. The only thing is that it doesnt have the recirculation picture on it, but it does the job well.

  • @Lonnie91a
    @Lonnie91a 8 років тому +2

    Why spend 8 hours when you can fix it exactly the same way in an hour by cutting a panel out? You can glue it back in almost perfect. The recirc door on the other hand requires removal of the entire dash.

      Try adding freon, I just bought a recharge hose and gauge thing from WM $15.00 used it to add a less than a 12 oz can of Freon $5.00.It took maybe 5-10 minutes and It turned from barely cool to ice cold. So now it does have a lot of ice cold air coming out, just that mostly the air only comes out of the drivers side. But even the pass. side has some cool air now, so at least I can stand FL's summer heat. It's given me some time until I can do the whole dash removal thing. - BTW: heatertreater.net - has some videos like AG was mentioning and also sells kits for jeeps and trucks.

    • @bigb5995

      I had system tested by Chrysler when I took it In for R06 Recall they charged me 20 for a shot but problem is worse than that the system is leaking out Freon from Exust and the Compressor has gotten week due to deals in the system starting to fail. thanks man but looks like ether way its gonna cost a pretty penny to fix in future when I get the funds to fix it right.

      No, I haven't fixed this problem yet mainly because of other more serious problems needed to be addressed such as the transmission and engine sensors. I am hoping to fix this when I have the money to do so.

      Just make sure to get those setscrews TIGHT after making sure the doors are turned all the way to go into the full heat position.
      I think melting through the plastic with a soldering pencil iron is better than trying to saw it.

    This guy wants to do it 'the proper way'. Big mistake. If you fit original blend doors they will break again & to take the heater out is between a 2 and 4 day job depending on your skill level. Just prop the door shut with a coathanger or anything you can poke up there. The door motor is prob ok but the computer shuts it down if its travel is too large. Fit BlenDors alloy doors kit if the blend doors are broke FAR BETTER than original & comes with instructions in 1 hour! Its the proper way. Cars are our servants not our masters!!

    • @tayexdrums93
      @tayexdrums93  8 років тому

      It sounds like you speak from experience. Is this something that you have only dealt with once or have you attacked this multiple times such as being a mechanic?

    • @evilbear1978
      @evilbear1978 7 років тому +1

      Don Rico exactly right. I don't know why this guy stated about "doing it the right way", because Chrysler actually has a repair bulletin out about repairing the blend doors by accessing them through a cut in the HVAC box, and reseal with the ducting sealant tape included in the kit. Best to do this through the box, and not tear the dash apart. I've done it twice already, and it's a half hour job from start to finish. Beats over 8hrs to disassemble and reassemble a dash.

    • @cobolt13
      @cobolt13 7 років тому

      But doing it tha ways better because sooner or alter those heater cores and condensors will fail.

    • @evilbear1978
      @evilbear1978 7 років тому

      I understand what you're saying, but the majority of failure in heater cores is due to improper maintenance, and additional stop leak additives. I always change all my fluids in the beginning of the summer, and never add stop leak to the cooling system. I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee with the original heater core.

    • @cobolt13
      @cobolt13 7 років тому
