    I always like the idea that the Thri-kreen can speak common just as easily as anyone else. They simply choose not to since they believe it's beneath them.

    • @alexloch77
      @alexloch77 2 роки тому +1

      Nah, it's just that they just don't have skin flesh to speak properly. Of course, telepathy more than makes up for it.

      Thri-kreen were an interesting choice for being a playable race. I've yet to have one of my players want to play as one, and I'll be perfectly honest.. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the logistics of the concept.

      Speaking common.
      In my space.campaigns common is not really the common language. It is a space language. One adapted through the many peoples in space.
      Makes it hard for my players to comminicate.
      So i try to avoid telepathy as it removes a challenge.

      @@gamemasters My favorite pop culture reference for the Thri-kreen language barrier, why rangers should pick the bonus languages from favored enemy instead of favored foe, and just ranger's entire contribution to the social pillar of play is pretty simple. Watch all the episodes of The Mandalorian where Mando interacts with Tuskans.
      The ranger and the Thri-kreen come back to the party after ten minutes of negotiating with people dressed in rags who didn't speak common:
      Paladin: How did it go?
      Ranger: Pretty good. We got safe passage and water rights to travel through the lands their people control for the next month.
      Thri-kreen: Click Clack Screeeee!
      Ranger: Click Clack is right. We got a huge bargain.
      Wizard: What did it cost us?
      Ranger: The plus one longsword the paladin hasn't used since he got the plus two greatsword and that holy avenger.
      Paladin: What?
      Thri-kreen: Click Clack Screeeeeeeeee!
      Ranger: Click Clack is right. They asked for very little. We got everything we wanted before we got all the way up to them.
      Paladin: Then what was all that laughing and arm waving in our direction for the last ten minutes about?
      Ranger: Oh, yeah that was funny. Click Clack told them about the time you and the Wizard got locked in those outhouses that those goblins rolled down that hill.
      Thri-kreen: Screeee. Click Click Clack Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
      Ranger: That's right Click Clack. The real treasure is the friends we made along the way.

    Our table officially voted on whether or not to run Spelljammer earlier today. Most of us had seen some reviews or looked over the first couple academy modules and the result was a universal yes. Apparently the DM has offered to do two session a week so that we can finish defiling what remains of the corpse of 'Tyranny of Dragons' 's plot. We rolled for stats earlier and the good luck of my last character was not repeated... I officially have a ranger with 4 Int lol!

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 роки тому +1

      okay.. so I GOTTA point this out... your group sounds like it will be kick ass, not in terms of power but in terms of just flat out fun! Why? Because if you have a ranger with 4 Intelligence, that means that you all are focusing on the FUN element of D&D and not the "optimize my character for total damage output" (not that that can't be fun), but having a wild array of stats just, in my opinion, makes it totally fun.

      I made a character in d&d I called him Mr Manley he was a human wizard that dealt with problems using violence or violent means as well he had prejudice towards other races not exactly a total racist where he wouldn't travel with other races but as far as purchasing items he would only purchase items from humans and human Crafters his story is he got lost in the Astro plane so he forgot his own name and his age he forgot where he came from and among other stuff he has amnesia which is why he's called Mr Manley because he doesn't know his name

Large Luigi is pretty cool, but I could also see a whole Beholder crime family running underground operations like the Hutts from Star Wars! Are there rules for flying the ships and for ship to ship combat?

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 роки тому +3

      aye, there is! In this first look, I wanted to be sure to cover the basics but in a future video, I'll go over ship to ship combat. One thing to note, I don't recall seeing anything specific about ship to ship spells. (an example i'd love to see is if I cast fireball from my ship and it moves through my ship's air envelope and through space and into another ship's air envelope, does it fizzle in that in-between-no-air area? As a DM I'm almost wanting to rule that it fizzles)

    • @Zamrod
      @Zamrod 2 роки тому

      @@gamemasters I somehow doubt it. In an interview recently someone from WOTC said they didn't want to make specific rules for ship to ship combat and wanted to focus on just shooting arrows or spells from ship to ship against the people on the other ship. They wanted to discourage attacking the ship itself and just run it as if it was a normal D&D battle.
      So, I'd be very interested in the ship combat rules given that statement. But it is fairly clear they expect spells to work normally through space.

    • @sylvnfox
      @sylvnfox 2 роки тому +1

      well I doubt spells will be a part of actual ship to ship combat due to range. MOST combats will be at hundreds of feet apart using seige weapons. spells such as fire ball have range of 150 feet and lightning bolt at 100 feet. now boarding actions yes 100%

    • @Zamrod
      @Zamrod 2 роки тому +1

      @@sylvnfox the quote from the article is "It's kind of like two groups on two small islands, separated by shooting arrows at one another. A ship becomes a platform on which the encounter takes place, like a dungeon room a room in a castle. You can attack the ship, of course, and the ship can take damage, but for the most part, ship-to-ship engagements really have to do with the crews on board. And, despite the fact that your ship may have a catapult and ballistae and whatnot on board, it's still pretty hard to trump a Fireball spell or a Lightning Bolt spell. The characters have so many other options at their disposal for disposing of shipboard enemies. We stay very much in the theatre of the mind with this product for the sake of keeping encounters fluid and fast."
      The implication is that they expect most combats to just be just putting two ships on a battle map very close to each other and to cast spells back and forth.

The Spelljammer book(s) for 5e is indicative of the problem with WotC’s 5e DnD. It lack all necessary content for a group of people to properly use without having to homebrew rules that should have been included in the first place. It is nothing more that a useless product made only to steal money from they consumers. It is an incomplete product like all WotC 5e books released in the last 5-8 years.
