Warning. If you’re gonna play this game. Do everything at once. Going back just isn’t worth it. It’s best collecting as the story unfolds. It’s more fun
Couldn't agree more
I look at this as a xbox mid game. It's just suicide squad the game without the skin....
@@yourtrunkrattles4398 I won’t even bother defending sunset overdrive. I like it. If you think it’s mid. That’s on you.
@@Elvis-m3i you mean suicide squad without the squad?
@@yourtrunkrattles4398 yes sure
sunset overdrive is the epitome of underrated games. there are so many gems in this that we have yet to see adopted by other games. i think the key is the team just went for pure fun and went crazy with creativity and experimentation. now every game is trying to be a clone of whats been done (mostly souls games) and its a shame we will never see another sunset overdrive
it's a massive shame since the legal side of the IP is all over the place. It feels so tragically underrated in a world where so many open world games coming out today don't have as much content as this does 10 years later
idk if I would call it "underrated" It was quite appropriately rated - It got 8s and 9s across the board. Even checking Metacritic 81 actually seems abit high imo. Pretty much everyone at the time that played it enjoyed the traversal but found the characters, writing/jokes, all the lore and world building just insufferable. Thats kinda where this games impact starts and ends. The Xbox one was lacking in tentpole quality exclusives a year in, Jet set radio but-with-guns and terrible writing was never going to sell or fill that void
It is just mid but the nostalgic flavor makes it looks better now
@@Bambeakz not for me because i played it first time last year and on pc in 4k looked and played insane. you really do not see such creative and polished aaa games these days.
I mean, there is inFamous as well.
The only openworld game in which i didn't use fasttravel. Its way more fun griding and swings through the map. One aspect i loved that during combat performance tricks also increases damaged.
I’m fully with you on this one, so happy to find another channel to follow! I was obsessed with Sunset Overdrive as a teen, and still sing its praises whenever underrated games get brought up. The fourth-wall breaking humor, bombastic combat and fluid movements have stuck with me ever since playing. I’m so glad you pointed out its shortcomings while also giving credit where it’s due! Great vid! 💜
so glad people are playing this again!!! We need a part 2
It's great seeing so many people making videos about Sunset Overdrive in the recent months
it reminds me of those movies that flopped on release but eventually gathered a cult following
The game is a true classic. Thanks for posting this.
ITS NOT SPIDERMAN MECHANICS ITS JET SET RADIO. AND IT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE WHEN YOU RE-CONTEXTUALISE THE GAME.
I hope you got paid for this video bc this is the best advertisement one can possibly do
Sunset Overdrive was not a launch game. It actually wasn't released until the Xbox One had been out for almost a year.
This is one of the first games that I have asked my mom to play as a kid. She said no, and I completely forgot about it until now. Thanks for the video
Sunset overdrive was one of my favourite games for the longest time
Watch_Dogs 2 honestly doesn't get enough credit. It was awesome.
As for Sunset Overdrive, I tried it a bit, but it was undderated when it came out so I focussed on diff games. Honestly does look like the culmination of 2008-2016 games
I own Sunset Overdrive....
I had fun playing it but I didnt stick with it probably because the demon that was sent to confuse me is called Attentionael Defficiion
I am upset that in the beginning you dont mention Witcher 3. The world there is beyond storytelling and exploration perfection
Welcome to the Algorithm. I think you will do great on UA-cam. Keep it up.
So cool to see someone talk so highly about this game. Actually an insanely fun game
Finally I come across someone who loves this game as much as I do
Yo Duud, thaanks for your vid. The algoritm got me here at exactly the right time. Deep sale on Steam. Great game for current full price, but it's an absolute steal for 5 bucks.
I really have to get used to the controls and the insane amount of mobility, but the game is so much fun. I'm enjoying myself a LOOTTTT !
The tone and character of the game is great, not taking itself seriously by any means. It all just lines out very nicely.
This game is awesome, I never understood the lack of recognition
This was the free game that came with Xbox one so millions of people have played it lol
It's alright know, everyone now knows it's only because of this game we have insonmiac's spiderman
If the melee combat was more realized I would say it’s one of the greatest open world games ever made, but PROTOTYPE still holds that place in my book. Sunset overdrive was fun, but I couldn’t be bothered to replay it to be honest. Just don’t care for shooters like that. But I make a point to play every open world game I can.
My phone was probably listening to me, I was literally just talking with my brother about this game earlier.
It is a fantastic game, VERY bizarre but awesome nonetheless.
Seeing this game after becoming a Saints Row fan, it really feels like this is the true sequel to Saints Row IV.
I love this game so much! It felt like Sonic mixed with THPS and Saints Row.
I found this game super cool when was announced, but didn't had XBox, so never played it. And I doubt my old PC can run it either.
Maybe one day...
I'm gonna finally play through this. I got it on game fly when it came out. Never finished it
I found out about Sunset Overdrive in 2020, i'm playing it since and begging Insomniac to make a sequel x))
That and SSX series are the main reasons i love Xbox So Much
Its crazy being able to play and OWN these games on a New Gen console.
I think the closest we ever got to this type of gameplay is when Second Son was released
i stopped playing because the map got overrun with so many of the infected that i got too scared to do anything lol
if Army of Darkness happened in Tony Hawk World
I feel you when it comes to loving this game but i really disagree that it wasn't popular
This game is great, one of the few open world games that I enjoyed playing and actually finished, even its DLCs. It doesn't strive for realism (remember the RDR2 horse balls?), it never takes itself seriously, gameplay is insanely fun, traversal is absolutely awesome, its story is unhinged and it's (imho) actually funny. It's a game that is meant to be a game, created to be as fun as possible. And they deliver.
It's free on Gamepass, pick it up :D
I aboslutely loved sunset overdrive
bought this game years ago since it reminded me of Jet Set Radio when I was a kid, welp looks like I gotta finish this game during my dayoffs from work 😂
Oh trust me I've played it, several times
Sunset overdrive was amazing JSRF is on another level tho
Is this gonna be about sunset overdrive
Sunset Override is so goated
@ 10:55 is that king buzzo of from the melvins? never played the game but it has to be. the hair the clothes, the guitar... crazy
I play sunset overdrive for 2 years back in highschool, it was so much fun :> My 3rd favs game after skyrim(first was FNV and then skyrim and sunset). :>
I played sunset overdrive at launch on my Xbox One.
It was a game I really wanted to play but gave up on it since I didn't buy a Xbox one and would wait for the PC port.
I LOVE THIS GAME IT IS ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS
I deadass think about this game once a month
Wheres my infamous brethren
i have played, AND ITS FUN AS-
ESPECLAYY THE REFRENCES TO OTHER GAME
I loved this game!!! I thought it was gonna be a huge series!
Hello. I noticed your title mentions i havenr played this game. However i have played this game, which means you lied to me.
Burnout paradise is a fucking gem 👌
Great video. I fucking love sunset overdrive
+1sub
One of my favorite games I actually paid for.
The one game Xbox im truly upset about that not on playstation. It didn't deserve the fate it got 😔
Yeah, bought it day one back in the day for my newly bought Xbox One. Great game.
Watch Dogs 2 has a dope soundtrack, too.
First game I played on my Xbox one! Beat the whole game, super fun
I remember when this game came out
Thank you for mentioning watch dogs 2, I love watch dogs 1 and 2, need more watch dogs 2, please, give me watch dogs 2
Sorry to tell you but I’ve DEFINITELY played this game
I absolutely loved this game for about the first 3 hours. After that it just got boring.
One of my favorite games of all time!
TOWER UNITE PLAYERS RISE UP,also i love sunset overdrive
I wish they would release this on ps5. I've always wanted to play it and right now I don't have shxt to play
Sunset overdrive was amazing omg I didn't want to switch to play station because this is an Xbox exclusive
Sunset overdrive was greeaat i wish i got to finish it
maaaan Burnout Paradise is a fuckin classic. I never even bought it, my dad and I would just play the demo over and over and over.
lovely video lad
last year got this game for my xbox one for just $3.5 cheapest but best game I brought
I LOVE this game.
I played sunset overdrive
We’ve all played it
Every time I click on a YT video for something I've apparently "never played" or "never watched"...it gurns out I played/watched that thing like 8 friggin' years ago.
fr tho i was expecting an actual game i’ve never seen before - how this is touted as a game people have never heard of boggles me, it’s been regarded as a classic since it came out, only reason it didn’t stick around is cause there’s basically no point in replaying it endlessly once you finish it. which is absolutely fine too, i’m tired of the constant FOMO tactics employed by many studios nowadays
@@zxphvr Anyone even slightly interested in games at the time knew about this, it was a leading Xbox one exclusive with rather loud marketing. But seriously everyone that played it knew it was a league above Ryse and Dead rising 3 (Killer instinct is fantastic, weak launch though) even most PS4 launch games. Are people gonna tell me Second Son was an "underrated masterpiece that i NEVER played" too? like damn sometimes art just has its time, we appreciate it then we move on to a new experience
This is basically what happens when youtube video-essayist becomes a cottage industry. I'll give the guy a dislike and move on.
Yea. That is because the game didn't really have an impact on you. So you moved on and forgot about it.
@@zxphvr The game technically failed from a sales perspective. Its more akin to a cult classic than a universally recognized game.
Loved it when the main guy looked at the camera and said bazinga
i loved that part too
my favorite part was when the main guy looked at the camera and said it's overdriven time
Seen that before
Iconic
Bro at when u enter the game, your character, looks at you, smiles, and punches zthe screen to make a hole in the map, and also to the screen to be far enough to be able to play easily, recommend 100/10 this game, one of my fav of all time
Sunset Overdrive has the self aware humour Saints Row wishes it had.
That’s what it looks like. I was honestly really scared it would be full of identity politics and DEI agendas….
But when he said they didn’t even record female pronouns for ANY of the voice acting is ridiculously funny and will be the reason I try this game 😂
I see you've never played those games.
Saints Row had it though, what are you yappin about
...if you're talking about the reboot SR they're about the same level of awful
doodoo humour
Oh I played this game CONSTANTLY when it arrived on Gold WAAAAY back in the day. Hell a few months ago I bought the DLC because I never actually played it and my god it was just great.
It's crazy how I never even knew there was DLC for it, I suppose the marketing just didn't hit me at the time. But for sure I've sunk so much time into it
Me tooooo. Gold was what introduced me to this game. And it was such a blast. Miss it so much. Insomniac is insane man. Sad they now Sony only.
Saints row meets jet set radio future
dude, i did the same thing, i gave it a chance when it was free on gold and i thoguht it was amazing. i really wish they made another cuz it ends on kind of a cliff hanger.
The best part is turning on the cussing filter and hearing the censer beep every three seconds
i think i'd go insane tbh
Sunset Overdrive and Brutal Legend have the absolute best swearing filters. It's actually less fun to play without them.
“game you probably never played” literally the most marketed game ON THE RELEASE OF THE XBOX ONE. Every single trailer had something showing off sunset overdrive and for good reason the game was FUCKING AMAZING. Honestly think only the youngest of gamers hasn’t touched it yet
True enough but we are talking about an exclusive on a platform that had around 1/4th of the market share at the time and not much overlap.
By the time it became more available it was overshadowed by newer games.
It was a great game, but it was in a little bubble so even for its generation it had far less people who played vs people who had.
@@mattb8412and even then, the game was pretty generic
If the humor didn’t work for you (as it didn’t for me) there’s nothing much here for you.
I’ve heard some folk praise the movement system, but I find it pretty boring (probably due to its forgiving nature)
I have never heard of it and neither have my friends. We're around 25.
I'm almost 26 and I just installed it from my steam library. I haven't played it because I had a PS4 10 years ago and I was too busy being the closest thing to a Destiny pro without being one. I'm one of those people who prefers Destiny Rise of Iron era and before more than Destiny 2 and after. It's too bad we can't play the game in that state anymore.
If it's only on Xbox, that's why I've never heard about it. The Xbox One was a failure of an announcement in 2013 and I don't care about Xbox at all.
It made Insomniac 567 dollars, and made Microsoft 7 million
Oh really ? Thats Sad...
@@look-awaytv5975 It made Insomniac 567$ because they were hired by Microsoft at a royalty rate of 0%. That means Microsoft paid for the development upfront with 43 million dollars. The game made 50 million, hence - 7 million dollars in profit for Microsoft.
Don't get me wrong, Microsoft is one of the shittiest companies in existence, but it's disingenuous to claim the game only made 567$.
@@look-awaytv5975 a Reddit post I read said that insomniac was contracted to make it so it’s not really true they made more than 567 apparently Microsoft paid them like 40 mil or something to make the game but insomniac had incredibly low royalties which is the 567 but this might be false as the Reddit post never listed sources
@@silversoda19 Ah good news, it would be so sad if they didn't make much money from that game...I mean its not certain but there's hope Thank You by the way. I love Sunset Overdrive, it gave me the feeling to do something to give Thanks to devs cuz that is A Video Game.
@@silversoda19 profit =/= revenue...
Ok great
Another game to add to my ever growing list
But this one is definitely near the top... Really sold it with the video
🙌
Immediately recognized Sunset Overdrive from the font used in the thumbnail, so I've definitely played it. Plus I've loved Insomniac since Spyro and Ratchet and Clank
Been waiting on a sequel for years. Real shame they're stuck working on Spiderman.
Seems like they're stuck in the "Marvel" genre, considering they're also working on a Wolverine game, while this deserves at least a sequel, if not a trilogy in my opinion
Infamous is better
They really wanted to but MS really dropped the ball and Sony had their own plans.
Stuck working on Spiderman which can be considered as one of the greatest IPs and also one of the best video games ever?
@@RHDYTstudio you may have a point about the IP, but you can't claim they're some of the best games ever, that can only be said with any kind of certainty in 10+ years after release, at best.
My favorite thing about this game (that wish was in every game) they allowed you to TURN OFF THE PROFANITY! For me this was such a cool novelty because my son was really young and I wanted to play games with him.
@@fritzthecat8158 Yeah, he isn't likely to try and do a Mortal Kombat fatality on the playground, but the more he hears cursing, the more normalized it is for him right? So it's easy to slip into it. (Which he is a teen now so all bets are off, lol)
The last real insomniac Game with a Crack in Time (and into the Nexus, what is More like a DLC for A crack in time).
Edit: I still like the Atmosphere & Gameplay of the R&C Games that came after that, but man, did the new director & writer of Rift Apart assassinated Ratchets Character, and reduces with him the whole Story, Dialouge, and most other characters to a one dimensional, superficial written Fiasco. Into the nexus made clear Ratchet was done with trying to find the lombaxes, he was happy with clank & talwyn. He wasn't insecure being "worthy" or not when he would face the lombaxes, like rift apart tries to tell us. It's more in into the Nexus he was unsure if It's EVEN NECESSARY to meet them. Ratchet learned & was confident with himself, but in Rift Apart he seems like an incecure teenage girl, constantly worried, what is Completely off-character. In the ps3 Games he had of course certain worries, but he remained confident and ready for Everything, but in Rift Apart they made his CHARACTER "worry" itself. If the OG writers would write rift apart, he most likely would just want to get over with it in a stoic & confident way. He wouldn't try to find the lombaxes, because he is confident in not searching for them. He is happy with his life. It's even stated the lombaxes DON'T want to be found. So, the only way you can finally finish the "lombax arc" is by forcing them to meet ratchet, through the plot, and rift apart kind of gave us at least a decent role model in that regard, even thou the Execution lacks HUGE Quality. Kaden (ratchets father) should have been replaced with rivet. He is assumed dead, but such a significant character deserves to be shown, and that would most likely motivate Ratchet in meeting the other lombaxes, after he meet his father. But yet, again, sony OWNS insomniac since 2019. Insomniacs studio is in the Headquarter of sony California. One of the biggest shareholders of Sony is Blackrock, and they admited "the narrative is more Important than Money" or "we from Blackrock we're forcing behaviors." The OG Director & writer weren't involved in rift apart.
Oh I played it. I played tf out of it. A hidden gem that deserves way more praise and respect than it got. It holds up insanely well too. I just played through it a few months ago, and it shows no sign of aging.
Ah yes, a "hidden gem" that was among the most heavily marketed games released on its platform.
That's certainly a hidden gem if I've ever heard of one.
@@Sin_Alder well firstly, it's a pretty subjective term if you wanna be a sarcastic douche and nitpick about it. Secondly, it is pretty well known that this game flew under the radar and was underrated. I mean it's literally in the title of the video bud.
Also, you will find more videos than not of people claiming how this game was unappreciated and under promoted despite being a high quality great game.
@@Sin_Alder yeah dude that's what the video is about so yes, it is a hidden gem 😂
One thing to note the style bar also affects the music the more complete bar the more the music that is playing is complete like it starts with the instrumentals and progress to the vocals etc.
This video reminded me how much I missed this game.
Looked it up on Steam and it was on sale for $7 CAD, so.... gonna play SO again today :)
So how was it?
Where is my sequel, Insomniac???!!!
You can blame Sony for that one
It flopped hard only broke even now this yr and Microsoft owns the rights not insomniac so definitely not getting made which is a pity
Like he said they’ve been bought by Sony to exclusively work on Spiderman
And even if it would have been great, the game wouldn’t get a sequel as there are too many SJWs around.
@@amanchoosesaslaveobeys6510
Microsoft let them keep the ip dude.
How the hell did I miss out on this?! It's 100% the kind of thing I love! Gonna check it out now.
you're missing out!
It had only been hyped during its launch on the XbOne. When they finally released it for PC, it got only a few days of hype, but, well, I'm guessing that it wasn't enough to get popular streamers and 'tubers to hype it up then.
I'm just glad that MS didn't keep the IP with their production deal. Sony/Insomniac can return to the IP. The only questions would be about releasing the original on Sony hardware, and seeing how both Sony and MS are embracing multiplatform to some degree or another these days, I wouldn't see it being out of question for Sony to release the original on their own hardware, and possibly open the door to sequels in the future depending on demand.
@Naedlus last I heard Microsoft did keep the right unless they changed it that would be great if insomniac owns it still
@@amanchoosesaslaveobeys6510 Yoshida has confirmed that Sony has the rights to it in 2019. I doubt I can post links, but, I should have mentioned enough of the terms to verify what I said.
@Naedlus well that's great news then we still have a slim chance of a sequel
I feel so bad the game didn't make a good profit, this game looks awesome and incredibly fun, the team who made it deserves better. If anyone on that team sees this, I appreciate you, thank you so much for this game, you are loved and may The Father of All bless you and your family.
Oh my god I forgot about this game. This was probably the most fun I’ve ever had playing a single player open world game.
I played it on release day. It was brilliant. Of all games that need a remake/remaster, this is one that is needed.
a remake...? its not that old and the visuals/controls are still very much modern. You can get it on PC right now and play in 4K lol this doesnt need a remaster.
I'd rather have a sequel 🥲
Remakes and remasters arent necessary period
Me, and every other Sunset Overdrive fanatic who clicked this video:
Thanks for putting the game in the Spotlight. I didn't know it existed before the Video. My latest addition to my Steam Library. Some Fizzo and then full hooah I guess 😉
I hope you end up loving it just as much as I do!
the greatest problem here is "xbox exclusive" this this usually make for games falling into irrelevancy
which game is at 0:14 ?
I don't know if you still need it, but that game's called: "A Short Hike".
Fantastic game, definition of short and sweet
this game is basically a mix of:
- spiderman
- ratchet and clank
- infamous
- deadpool
- tony hawk pro skater
as a bonus, your male character looks like ryan reynolds
add Jet Set Radio and Prototype in there too
With the tone (from what I can gather from the video) or Borderlands
I like how the fridge only has beer in it
Stop saying i havent played it you literally dont know me, i have played it
Played it years ago. Fun game with cool mobility, but I found the voices and dialogue were insufferable. Also they made you do EVERYTHING three times. Like 'rule of three' is great and all, but it's not something you HAVE to follow
I saw the letter font on the thumbnail and immediately understood this was Sunset Overdrive. Iconic.
