OK, it's time to be honest with myself. I'm 63 years old, and I am finally willing to admit to myself that this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Such timeless and haunting lyrics and melody. So many different artists have done this song in so many different ways, and they're ALL great, with this one being no exception! Not many songs are like that. First time ever hearing this band, and I am impressed...now I'm gonna watch some more!

It is amazing how a song written in the late 1940's has been covered by many generations of artists! This is a great version by these young musicians!!
At 84 I still love this song. This group is as good as any of them. The time really loved this song was on a night when a storm was on the way. The perfect background. I lived on the prairies in Canada. ❤❤❤❤
My Mom is 96. She also grew up on the prairie, in Vauxhall, Alberta. It's good to hear of another "Prairie Chick" who enjoys the music of Southern Raised.
When my father was growing up in the Soviet Union, he would risk being arrested for buying illegal bone tracks. You could only play them a few times and then they wore out. You never knew if you would get Elvis, Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, The Beatles etc. He once got this song by Johnny Cash (he thinks). He said the lyrics swept him away. He is now a nuclear and quantum physicist but even though he was almost an adult, he just wanted to be an American cowboy (instead of a Siberian scientist). He heard this playing and recalled closing his eyes to visualize the lyrics being played in his mind and said “whoever is singing that is amazing”. Now that he can buy whatever music he wants and the musician is noted, he said “I would buy this”. I will search iTunes for him. He’s older than my mom by a little over 20 years (he’s 70) and yet I could tell this song transported him. There was no music this good when he was younger. He risked a lot to buy music he could only play once or twice (four times but it would skip) but loss of job, freedom, blacklisting he said it was worth it. He loved music that sent chills down his spine. He did say he didn’t understand Harper Valley PTA at the time. He said his English language skills were not that great and he had no idea what a PTA was. Odd, your comment reminded me that music really does transcend time and place.
