An elegant piece of miniature engineering put together really well. Also well done to the Scale 4 society for producing such a well thought out piece of kit!
Yes these lever frame kits are very enjoyable to build. I've made five units up of the older MKI version of the lever frame kit. In hindsight I wish I made the MKII version and added the interlocking as well. When you get around to painting the frame be careful how you paint it. Applying too much paint can gum the works up. Looking forward to part two.
Thank you, James. A curiously calming and relaxing video to watch. Particularly so, as I know the last thing it would be is calming and relaxing if I tried to put that together. Amazing how that comes out of a 2D fret! Like you say really well designed.
I'm pleased you enjoyed it Andrew. I thought I'd mix it up with a relaxed vibe this time. :) It was a fun project to put together - so well designed. Thanks for watching, James
Good day, sir. Your videos are extremely informative and interesting to watch. I am glad I found your channel. I've been watching the one on the servo mounts you designed and they are pure genius. I am an architect and I enjoy hearing the design thinking behind a lot of your work. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you James, another lovely Instructive Video, yes, as you say that looks a really nice Kit, no doubt robust enough for O Gauge as well as P4. Thank you for sharing looking forward to the other Videos too. Keep safe.
Ha ha, I thought of you when I added them. :) I was going to have them spell out 'subscribe', but at 2 o'clock in the morning thought it wasn't worth the extra time spent editing. I wish I had now. Btw, brush-up on your Morse code for next episode!! All the best, James
Great video and lovely work. I made up a 35 lever frame with full interlocking and it’s easily the work I am proudest of. My work is significantly poorer than your excellent work but the design is so good that even with my clumsy efforts it works perfectly. There is such delight in being prevented from pulling the wrong lever. I’m looking forward to the next part.
Wow Tony, I can imagine a 35 lever frame with interlocking being a work of art. I'd have it in a display case. I'm looking forward to adding the mechanical locking and am thinking about a servo operated locking indicator for the shelf - quite why I'm not sure. :) Thank you for your kind comment, next episode coming soon. Take care, James
Hi Tony. Further to my previous reply, I wanted to add that I've just found your thread on the Scalefour forum. To say I'm impressed with your achievement would be a real understatement. The whole thread has been fascinating and really helpful to me, and no doubt to many others too. Thank you so much for sharing your work on there, the guidance and support you were offered by others has been really helpful too. Your modesty is totally unfounded. When I got to the end of the thread and saw the finished outcome I was amazed and inspired, it's a thing of beauty and a real credit to your determination, and the quality of the support on the forum.
@@BexhillWest My goodness! Thank you so much. It is my pride and joy and I assure you I was not being modest. As you noticed I was pretty much taken by the hand and led through the process. Such kind words from you particularly is most heart warming. Thank you! Have you started on thinking about the dog chart? It’s another world! Good luck, I shall follow with interest. Tony
Never mind the filming James, love how you show making this. Indeed a nice design. Although, when we’re talking levers, my favorites are the ones Gormo designs and makes himself for his layout Great Chesterford. Definitely am curious if you’ll come up with any design additions or tweaks to this lever assembly. Absolutely can imagine you very much enjoyed making this lever contraption.
Nice kit todo the operations of the little signal box👍 One trivia: The home position of the levers is away from the signalman, therefore as at 22:43 of the video the positions all near to the signalmen would be rather unusual or even impossible by interlock. Till next time
A wonderful video of an excellent product assembled by an engineering artist. James's you make it look so easy. I purchased from Severn Model's a OO gauge signal box interior made from brass which I found to small for my fingers. Having seen an assembled painted version it looks great and might be something you might be interested in for Bexhill West Signal Box 2.
You are too kind, but thank you. I have just had a look at the Severn Models kit, and it looks ideal - Thanks for putting me on to it. All the best, James
Love your work, explanations, in some of your Bexhill west imagery a small (35-50mm daimeter0 circular signal, track or points ( )model RR) signal box shelf repeater is featured. Is that an item that is made for sale ?
excellent video, loved it. One comment, with the quadrant top, if i had been doing it i would have soldered it with the corrugations on the outside, as they would represent the treads. You did it with the corrugations inside. Is that correct?
Hi Ian, I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. The etched corrugations allow the quadrant top to bend easily and are designed to go on the inside. It’s a good thought though. Thanks for watching, James
Very nice tutorial, that small bend bench is a very nice tool, can you give me a clue where these are available? I've some brass coach kits and that seem to be a real handy tool to work with.
Hi Danny, I got my bending tool from here: www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/piranha-series-300mm-photo-etch-bending-tool-rp-toolz-pir-300-p17201/ Hope that helps, James
Thanks for the tip 👍 Went to the London model show last weekend saw the people there form the EM gauge club who had a sample of these signal box levers with them, they really look very nice, convinced me to implement them as signal and point controllers for my layout, thanks for this tip…
I watched this video, which I really enjoyed, thank you. So much so, as I ordered one myself. I have to make a comment though. This is NOT the current kit as supplied by the Scalefour society, the current one seems is less sophisticated and not quite as nice in my opinion.
Is there a "S2 E16 Bexhill West Model Railway Elapsed Deadline Intermezzo" video on the way? A look at scalefour forum shows you´ve been stocked with interlocking relations two weeks ago, hopefully not still(?) and back to twelve levers as original. Looking forward to what ever will come (next) when ready ;)
Hi, Yes, I am a little behind my schedule. The next video is made and uploaded (I've only just finished it) and will be published later this week. I've been down a rabbit hole of learning over the past couple of weeks which has held me up, but I think you'll enjoy the next episode. :)
Lovely work, nicely lit and filmed throughout. Getting the filming right must have taken a great deal of care and attention. Well done. Have you thought of supplementing your main camera with something like a cheap action cam overhead or at a different angle to get a backup for some of those harder shots?
Thank you Brer Rabbit, I try my best to make the videos look nice and I'm pleased you noticed. However, it's still a struggle and somewhat out of my comfort zone. :) I'm still making changes to my working area, when I get fully sorted I plan to incorporate an overhead set-up, which as you mention would not only make getting the shots easier, but improve the videos more generally. Additionally, I need a big sign to remind me to put my glasses on when setting focus. :) My best wishes, James
Perfect video many thanks for making it and posting Are you going to add the mechanical interlocking also available from the Scalefour Society? If so, I would be most interested in how you go about designing the interlocking table etc. Keep up the good work Phil
I am intrigued by these Level frames. I would like to build some for my own model railway. But was trying to find a price but you can only seem to do that if you’re a member of scalefour. But as on a budget do not want to join and then find I cannot afford to purchase the relevant kits to build. Can you give me an idea of the price of one frame Please.
Hi Roy, being etched nickel silver these kits are not cheap items. However, they are superbly well designed and very enjoyable to build. I suggest looking here for some more details: www.blockpostsoftware.co.uk/L_frame.html Thanks for watching, James
Beautiful, creative engineering! Every time I watch your episodes, I turn green with envy!! Why are you getting comments in corsican and romanian? Totally irrelevant content, too. Is it a species of spam?
Thank you Michael, I have removed the rogue comments now. Isn't it a shame that spammers seem to spoil everything. Anyway, and on a lighter note, if you have a moment would you email me your address please - I seem to have lost it. I have a little something here which from past correspondence I think you will enjoy. All the best, James
