Hi there - my family and I just adopted a 10 week old Labrador x Rottweiler. We have had him for about five days now and he has become very naughty. He doesn’t chew any furniture or anything but he bites a lot, and hard. We bought him lots of chew toys that he spends a lot of time playing with so we don’t think he’s teething. Sometime he gets into these moods where he won’t stop biting us really hard. We aren’t really sure how to discipline him because we’ve heard that physical correction can make them very aggressive so we haven’t done anything like that
. When he starts biting and gets a bit destructive I say ‘Stop’ or ‘no’ in a deep voice but he doesn’t listen and I’m worried we have gotten an aggressive dog that wont listen to anyone. When I say stop or no he has started to bark at me, I’ve tried so many things to get him to listen to me. Please can you give me some advice on how to get him to behave and stop biting us? Also what is an effective way to discipline him if saying stop and no doesn’t work? I don’t want him to grow into an aggressive dog and there’s no way I’m giving him back to the shelter. Would really appreciate some advice.

Dogs are very obedient if you make them like that. But many of them unable to do so.

Follow the training suggestions on this channel.
I would add that with several of my Rotties, I noticed that they would get nippy at certain times of the day. I realized they were tired and needed a nap.
So off to their crate they went. And when they woke up, the nipping was gone.
Puppies need a LOT of sleep. And time to just be by themselves.

Yo Will, if you still watching and responding to comments, can you give your input on this. How do you keep a 9 week old Rott engaged during training ? Mine is really good but even when hungry at his current age, he will only give me about a good 3 - 5 minutes before he shuts down. He is still hungry but doesn't want to do any more training for treats, if that makes sense. Lol...

That’s about the best you can hope for when they are young and you shouldn’t train hm any more than that anyways. Good job utilizing hunger. Even when they get older like 3+ months old and are starting to get larger you aren’t gonna get or need to get more than 15 good minutes a day. From what I’ve seen so far. I’m on my first Rottweiler, but it seems much the same as when I’ve trained German Shepard puppies, and even border collie, although the border collie was an incredibly fast learner and had a better attention span quicker… when he wasn’t running around like an absolute maniac lmao

I have a question, what if I want to get a dog, I have never had one, but my dad was raised with many many dogs, he had two Rottweilers as a kid, and he is very experienced with them, if my dad teaches me how to care for it, is it alright if I get one? Last question, does a 6 year old count as a young child? My brother is 6, and I just want to make sure

I would suggest you watch all of these videos. Go to dog shows and talk to the Rottie owners (we LOVE to show off our dogs💖). Find trainers in your area that are familiar with the breed. If they have some that are currently in their classes, ask if you can come and watch. And maybe speak to the owner (we LOVE to talk about our dogs💖💖). One of mine was in a class once that had 4 Rottweilers 3 Dobermans and 3 German Shepherds and a PitBull. People would just stare at this magnificent dogs as they worked.
Take the time to research your puppy. Getting a pup from a really solid breeder will help to make sure your dog has a stable temperament. And a responsible breeder can pick a puppy for you that will be easier to train, get along better with kids, etc. Yes I said “pick a puppy”. A really good breeder will know the behavioral characteristics of their litter based on the characteristics of the lineage. They can then pick the pup from the litter that will be the best fit for you.
Plus a pup from a responsible breeder will come with parents who have been tested for health issues. You will get a health guarantee from the breeder.
And a responsible breeder will be there for any issues you run into. I can call my breeder anytime. Ask her any question, food, health, training, etc. And we have a great conversation. They will also take the puppy back if something goes wrong ( they had owners who were both diagnosed with end stage cancer 2 yrs after they got their pup. The breeder took her back as they requested and the pup was placed with someone who had multiple pups from the breeder, and kept in contact with the initial owner).
Likewise, a responsible breeder can and will reposes a pup who is not taken care of properly. My breeder has done it 3 times in 30+ yrs of breeding. And it is clearly spelled out in their contract.
Whatever you do, think everything through carefully. Your pup’s well being is dependent on you.
