thank you, i was having a trouble for changing the damn color for days since we have a guide for my activity but its not clear and confusing for first timer
What is the exact sequence of buttons to do the thing where you drag across the object and it makes the gradient in that direction? My Illustrator sometimes just moves the shape instead.
why my gradient tool isnt working? when i move the cursor to the shape, the gradient tool isnt responding and have like failed or warning sign on the cursor. do you know what might be the problem
super, I need to information about how to add tools in cardboard sheets left and right side which one we needed ex: gradient and layers like, could you pls explain
Is there a way to free rotate the direction of the gradient? It seems silly to create that direction line slider thing but have noi way to alter its direction.
When you're in the gradient tool, hover your cursor over the right end of your gradient and the cursor should change to an arrow in the shape of a circle. Then you can rotate it. Hope that helps. Thanks for the questions
How do you get the "properties" panel in that right side of the screen? Because my illustrator doesn't have that and when I click the gradient tool it doesn't pop up either so I'm lost in how to make the properties appear!
Hi. You need to have the fill selected before you create the gradient. Either that or you could swap the the fill and stroke colour by pressing the little arrow just above the swatch at the bottom of the tool bar.
Thanks for pointing this out. In the newer versions of Illustrator, like you're using, when you hit the gradient slider it will bring up the colour window showing only greyscale. If you click the hamburger menu in the top right of the colour window you will find the option to change to the RGB or cmyk sliders. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need any clarification. Thanks
@@solopress I do know what you're talkin about, because usually you can choose from RBG, CMYK, Etc, but as of now there are literally no options in the hamburger menu.
sir can you tell me how to add two linear gradient in one shape like one is from up upone to down of shape and other one from down upon to up of shape?
Hi. If you hover your cursor just below the gradient slider, you will see a plus symbol appear. This means you can add new colour points to your linear gradient. Therefore you could add 2 colours to the top of your gradient and another 2 to the bottom.
Hi. When you'r in the gradient tool and you see the adjustable bar appear over your gradient, hover your cursor over any part of the bar that doesn't have a control. You should see that the cursor changes to an arrow head. Click and hold and you should be able to move it freely. Hope that works for you.
I watched it and I still can’t get my image to gradient smh. I have a word design and I cannot get it to gradient blue to white. I’m new to AI and this is extremely frustrating because that’s the last thing I have to do for my design and I can’t figure it out. Can you gradient any font? I’m soo confused I was able to do it one time and then when I tried to repeat my steps for whatever reason I can’t get my design to gradient
Hi Dante. You will have to outline your font before you apply a gradient to it. Select the text, then go to 'Type' in the top menu, then down to 'create outlines'. With the type still selected go to 'object' in the top menu, then down to 'compound path' and select 'make'. Now you should be able to apply gradients til your heart's content. Good luck.
Very good point. To use a gradient on text, select your text with the selection tool, go to 'Type' in the top menu and the down to 'Create Outlines'. Then go to 'Object' in the top menu, down to 'compound path' and select 'make'. Then you can apply the gradient. It's one of the few features of illustrator that seems a bit convoluted, but it's essential to know. Thanks
One of the best tutorials i have ever seen. Great work.
Wow, thanks!
Super specific tutorial that relies on generic pre-sets. Carry on folks that are looking for a hearty gradient walkthrough.

As long as you've got the gradient tool selected the shape shouldn't move

My gradient applies to the stroke, and not the fill. How do I go about fixing that?
Hi. You need to have the fill selected before you create the gradient. Either that or you could swap the the fill and stroke colour by pressing the little arrow just above the swatch at the bottom of the tool bar.
I have no color swatches in my gradient, and no option to change to RGB, it's all grey scale :/

Can I pick gredient color from any image with color picker tool?
Yes
Hi, yes you can but, ensure your image is an embedded link before you colour pick it, otherwise it isn't accurate. Hope that helps.
