Great video kie. It brings to light the importance of brake bias, not only for balance but for tyre wear. I believe this will help alot of people. Great stuff 👌👍
Reporting back, this has been incredibly helpful for me recently! I've become much more aware of how gradual and when I release the brake pedal and how it affects the rotation of various chassis with different brake bias settings. Thanks for putting this together! :)
Are there cars that allow Differntial adjustment or sway bar adjustment while driving ? It seems the is only Traction control, Anti Lock Brake, Brake Bias (Front to Rear) available to change while racing. Im using Automobilista and ASsetto Corsa
great video - really helps using the brake bias on a pad as well because you can soften the cars reactions a bit and make it feel more stable. Like you said - especially on the MR cars which i struggle with on the pad. I always do a few laps - then change the bias and do a few more. especially if you are running a car or track that you are not used to. Looking forward to more of this type of video.
Great video! Sometimes it helps setting the brake bias to the rear to settle the car's rear end on the turn-in when you lift off the brakes. This is especially is true of N class cars on One Make races. You have to figure out if your rear is oversteering on the braking or on the lift-off, if it is on the lift off - more brake pressure to the rear helps to keep more weight on the back axle mid after trail braking and keeping the rear in check.
I'd like to see a cornering guide, seems to be where I lose the most time. Though it's probably hard to drive badly, perhaps you could show some comparisons against a ghost to show where minor mistakes, braking too early, late, hard or soft, when to accelerate etc, will lose the most time. I've used your track guides (and AC setups) for a few years, and seem to match you pretty closely, in terms of braking point, turn in and exit, but still struggle to get round within 3-4 seconds of your time on the longer tracks, despite being only fractions of a second off the best times in the driver tutorials. Thanks. Almost at 15k, keep up the good work.
While I agree...I believe everyone corners diff ...we all kinda have a feel of our own for each corner...just find your line and you'll be alright Like he says ..to each corner a person has their own way
Great explanation for brake bias. Was able to use these tips for daily race A. Made a big difference and made the car a lot easier to handle. Now to tinker around with it for the other races
Superb. Been running the AMG Gr 3 for a bit. Been struggling with understeer a lot on Dragon Trail Seaside so will try playing with the brake bias to try and get those super fast times
What a video. Must have taken you ages. I've written all these down so I have the guide next to me.. I've been wanting this guide for long, being an elder person, I forget which way to go. Many thanks 👍
Greatly appreciate the effort to create this guide Kie. Definitely a great reference guide and I look forward to putting the start settings into practice.
I run breaks 3 to the rear. Can't out break people but my lap times are always quicker and tend to get better drive out of corners due to the stability through the corners. only drive FR cars though. Awesome explanation!
that is now how brake bias works without abs, without abs u need to find the balance in the car so the tyres lock even when it locks, example downhill and uphill could turn into having to switch out the brake bias front rear to front , just for those parts of the track
Again thank you so much for the tips.. I've got a long way to go, but I'm getting better by watching your videos, so that being said thank you so much...
Great video. This has really cleared up some things to me as I had a rough idea but you explaining it in greater depth will definitely help me in the future. Thank you 👍🏻
Hey Kie it’s Ray. I’ve with you in the lobbies before. I just wanted to say thanks for making o couple of things clear to me because i had it all wrong. I was doing a great time at Mount Panorama on the Gr 4 BMW M4 and I was actually playing with my bios along the race. I would set it to -1 from “THE CHASE” to T3 and then I’d set it to -4 on “THE SKYLINE” since my understanding was that i needed more brakes towards the front when going downhill especially a steep one like that one. Because with no weight on the rear it would’ve been like pulling the e-brake if if did a +5 or anything near that. But now that I’ve seen your video i understand why i was doing so much understeer on the last Corner of the downhill and i was coming out really slow into the straight since I’d have to wait to get back on power. Can’t wait to get home in the afternoon and test your theory. @6:00 P.M eastern US time I’ll be on Mount Panorama on a Gr4 lobby ( by Name Kie Team)I anybody wants to join. Might do a couple of races if enough people join.
From my own experience, here's a rule of thumb: It's all about weight distribution and drivetrain. *FWD* FF - weight tends to be shifted onwards; so you might want to minimise understeer; set positive bias (+) *RWD* FR - weight tends to be shifted onwards; you might want to minimise oversteer; set negative bias (-) RR - weight tends to be shifted backwards, encouraging the rear to slip; you might want to minimise oversteer; set negative bias (-); MR - weight is well distributed, but you might want ro minimise oversteer; set negative bias (-) *AWD (the trickiest)* Break bias depends on LSD settings, but generally, it should be set where the engine is placed: for front engine cars, break bias should be positive; for rear/mid engine cars, break bias should negative. I the end, you should set the bias according to your driving style. Nevertheless, I hope this helps shed some light into it 😉
Very informative, thanks for taking the time to make this vid. Just started playing around with this setting recently - the info will come in handy. 👍🏻😎
Something that you could explain that would make a little more sense in a much shorter amount of time would be this: Moving the brakes to the front will tighten the car up on entry and moving the brakes to the rear will help the car loosen up in the corner. Adjust the brakes to the way you drive so that you can make it more comfortable in the corners for you. .... from a actual race driver
44stevenson but that is what I said but I wanted to actually show people by demonstrating so people can see what is happening 👍 no point being quick as some people have no idea so I wanted to show exactly what happens.
Bro great guide. As im primarily a gr3-gr4 driver i have been recently experimenting in the exact same way. Much thanks for the tips. Im one step closer to being the next Lewis Hamilton. Keep it up!
darius75240 but like I say depends on your style, Bathurst is a track where I often go more forwards so try 0 balance or even -1 just remember every track is different and every driver inputs are different so you need to find your sweet spot 👍
Good video and thanks for posting. Makes sense to probably everyone watching. I think most of the confusion stems from the way GT seems to have misled people regarding how BB impacts the dynamics of a car in game. They would have done better to explain the effects of this setting more accurately.
Last week I could not go below 1:39:209 on daily Race gr4.. I'm 3 seconds away.. so this should help.. Next can you talk about car setups? Are they important? Thank you!
the problem that i notice mostly with FR cars is that if u put over +2 ok u r gonna to save more on front but actually it doesn't turn and in case of hairpin it's absolutly horrible.... while FIA i could test it with the GR Supra who is a tyre destroyer.... and for tokyo expressway tracks who kills more front tires than many other tracks even with +5 i was struggeling so much cause basically this car is pretty similar as MR cars on driving and thats why for FR it's very good at time attack but on tyre wear race it was horrible because it kills already the front so for that car i had to be on +1 or +2 and it was drivable, could equal tyre wear on all 4 wheels but the car is killing too much tires compared at others :/
@@thekie25 oh and i meant it doesn't brake about earlier over +2 brakes and yea about not turning it's only about hairpin the problem but ofc it's always better on higher speed corners
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Can I ask a stupid question please: how could brakebias affect the car being under/over for corners that I don't have to brake except tyre wear? Hi mate! Great video, packed with details, really appreciate it. What do you think about adjutsnig the brake bias on the fly, for certain track parts? Like f.e. have it most on rear for preferred oversteer on entry but decrease it for downhill sections (nurburgring maybe)? Is it worth doing or rather stick for certain setting per track to get consistent with one setting? What real racing drivers do, any information on that? Cheers!
Thanks so much for this video.. finally getting my noodles around brake balance! Question: Do you adjust brake balance DURING laps depending what corners are coming up.. or is it better just to have a good average bb for the overall lap? Keep up the great vids :)
I’m not a fast driver but I managed to get to A for consistent races.. mostly due to practice before racing and avoiding fights for position way too much cuz that can lead to bad results cuz of penalties and accidents
Great vid as usuall, (wish had subtitles to help with that accent XD) Why MR in gr.3 and gr.4 have opposed settings? aren't they in essence the same car in terms of where the engine is and the weight?
Team Cano MotorSport yes however as a general rule they are easier to control due to weaker power so you tend to be able to go more aggressive on brake bias 👍
911s are an anomaly because they aren't really MR cars. They're more close to RR cars and the weight of the engine sits right on the rear axle all the way at the back. That really messes with how the car reacts to sideways forces. It can handle rear bias because despite the weight shift forward under braking, there's still a lot of mass on the back of the car, keeping the tires at good traction, so the rear doesn't really want to snap out that much. I always feel like I'm driving a dart. Try as you may to upset that car, it will always have that inherent stability, which is paradoxically, very counter intuitive, because you would not at all expect it to behave this way. You'd expect it to go insane and snap oversteer like crazy, but at a certain point, when the tires are thick enough on the back of a Porsche, it just breaks through that oversteer barrier and gains cheat level stability.
Hello dude, great video and very useful info! I'm a long time GT fan but by no means am I a pro at this game. I'm going after the platinum and I'm doing fine so far. I got the pole positions trophy and now I need to rack up wins. I know you must be accustomed to driving very fast cars, but do you think you can give me some tips on which N100 car should I pick to get better times at Autopolis shortcut version? It's part of the current weekly races. I've been driving the Demio, stable but not really fast. Should I pick the Honda Fit or Suzuki Swift Sport? Tuning the brake balance would help in some way? Thanks in advance, I hope you can give me a hand.
kevin byars first letter designates engine position, second letter is the wheels that put the power down. MR = mid engine rear wheel drive, FR = front engine rear wheel drive

Gr.4 - MR - Prefer rear (+2) (Kie25, 0 to +3)
Gr.4 - FR - Prefer rear (Kie25, +2 to +4)
Gr.4 - 4WD - Prefer rear (Kie25, +5)
