As of Update 1.13, the outcome of this test might differ. With the extra rear traction given to cars in the physics update, I would suggest trying every new car with TC at '0' and only setting it to '1' if you absolutely can't tune that behavior out of it. Bon chance!

  • @kag318

I can agree with your trackday maniac friends as well Ermin. I’ve driven a range of Ferrari challenge cars. Not quite GT3, maybe closer to GR4 in GT7. Either way, in the challenge cars we always drive with the TC set to off because it’s way too intrusive when making corner exits. It cuts power as you blend back into the throttle just from the normal speed differential you have between left and right wheels due to the inner tire traveling less distance. With traction control off there is no sliding and no wheel spin unless you push the car too hard and make it spin. So I figured this would be true if I made a replica F430 Challenge in GT7, complete with the actual alignment angles from an F430 challenge I setup recently…. No luck in that department, the rear end goes for an overtake every time you touch the throttle coming out of corners lol TC set to 1 and it drives like a dream! So definitely some balancing needed to the upper limit side of the grip model to make it a more gradual loss of grip instead of the insta-snap we get now.

There is a massive difference between default and weak ABS, almost as much as if ABS was turned off. ABS default, allows you to turn easily, during braking, hence it is an assist. When he said there was basically no difference between Weak and Default ABS in GT7 it set my expectations low.
There’s a huge difference between them. Default auto trail-brakes for you and eases out of pressure based on how hard you’re trying to turn in. It’s a massive assist. Low only frees up an under-rotating wheel and is agnostic of steering angle or cornering effort.
With Default you can treat brakes pretty much like a binary input and still get easy corner entry. With Low you need to modulate it.
It’s no wonder he struggled so much with ABS off if he’s used to ABS Default in GT7.

    • @EeekiE
      @EeekiE Рік тому

@@michaelschneider1365nothing about ABS Default is realistic. The behaviour of ABS Low logically behaves closer to real ABS. ABS Default is more akin to brake vectoring and is aware of steering wheel angle and cornering intentions. You don’t require any finesse on the brakes outside of the initial application timing and perhaps how and when you let off. No modulation between pressure and steering input is required at all as it is with ABS Low/Off.

    Kinda unrelated, but...
Ever since GT Sport, you could do a "trick" to get a near perfect start in every grid start race, that trick being using the MFD to put the TC at any value before the start, and then turning it off once you get into 2nd/3rd gear, you could also do this trick in 5 and 6, but it's nowhere near as fast to do. Some might call this cheating, but the game never really has any idea of it

They want you to play with the suspension tuning to find the sweet spot.
I've played with the Porsche GT3 suspension settings and it's nearly how a GT3 should handle, the rear now doesn't want to overtake the front on every bend.
I only have TC on with cars that are a nightmare to handle with limited down force. A non GT3 Corvette rear is a nightmare as the license test at Willow Springs highlights, it's impossible to do it without TC I found after many many many tries before I realised the demonstration even has TC on!

What I noticed while using the X Bow without ABS or traction control (one of my favorite vehicles of all time) is that you can't steer while braking, so you have to completely finish braking before you turn, also don't go hard on throttle during turns cause without traction your car will start Tokyo drifting without your consent. (This is a year later, so they may have fixed the car, but thats just what I noticed).

I wondered this with GT3 and GT4 cars. I had abs off from the start and i was strugling like hell in the races. I was basically last in every race.
Today i put abs to weak and immediatly i was in pos 5-10 battles and no problem to keep up. Feels like night and day difference. ABS off locks brakes so easily even when i push pedal very slightly... That maybe would be fun if everyone else would have same settings. I have fanatec DD pro with pedals so they should be spot on to this game.
Feels like abs weak and all other assist off is the way for me.

  • @AwesomeFinish

You have to understand how ABS works to understand why your brakes are locking up even with light application. An ABS pump modulates the breaks, basically like pumping the brakes in rapid succession. In the old days before ABS driving instructors said to pump the brakes if the car starts to skid. On GT7 when I run without ABS that's exactly what I do, I pump the breaks going into a corner and it works flawlessly. Of course, I don't play the game for a leg workout so I use ABS.

Neat video, and thanks for sharing…. I’ve found however that sinking a few credits into any car will greatly improve the driving quality. Racing tires (I prefer the medium most times) are first to have an impact on lap times. After that, racing suspension. I’ve found varying the natural frequency front to back (softer in the front, harder in the back) will improve the cornering ability. Also play around with the downforce settings. I also always use the racing transmissions to set a top speed that lets the use all the gears and produce a spirited ride.

Me as a AC player always recommends putting traction control off or in a slippery setting (some cars have up to 15 levels) and ABS in factory most realistic option possible. Driving like this gives me on Spa or other tracks incredible curve speed and GT2 cars without abs don‘t loose much stopping distance as the force on the wheels is soo high that they can’t block at higher speeds (sometimes breaking balance has to be adjusted as the front tyres are often blocking earlier and damaging the brakes or blocking the steering). Also the cars do loose grip very easily when using no TC but that’s using a x-bow nothing unusual as the car is light = less grip and has high HP with a good amount of Nm. As soon as the Nm > wheel grip the motor begins to rev high and makes the rear falling out of line it is very realistic and gives the driver the option to slide the car throughout corner and lean the back a little sideways to get better acceleration at the end of the curve.

    +1 torrential rain
So for instance, driving a 750 hp c63 in a storm on Nurnbergring, I'm using TCS 3. At the same time, a 450 HP AWD Mitsubishi GTO on dry Tokyo and I have assists off.

I tested this a bit myself and took the standard KTM around the circuit. I am using the controller, not the wheel, and I have to say the KTM is a bit tricky. But I always turn off TCS in the dry, and if the car is setup right, it is not a problem. The car is a bit more loose, but that makes it easier to correct when it slides. If a car with TCS slides, you can't correct it with power.
With the controller though, for me the abs off does not work, I have it on weak. Btw, don't sell yourself short, I can't do your times with the standard KTM, don't know your setup, and maybe the wheel does help a bit. About other assists, I noticed that sometimes the AI takes a very different line then the yellow dotted line, and gained lots of speed with that. And it worked for me, too. Also, the brake zone, depending on the corner, it is often better to brake sooner, sometimes later, and the suggest gear is often to low. With some balls you can keep speed and stick to 3, and it suggest to go to 2, needing to brake more, and hitting the rev limiter instantly when exiting the corner. Also, powerful cars don't need to go back to 1, all you get is wheel spin and instant rev limiter.

Completely agree with the state of RWD cars, there's a fundamental flaw in the programming that needs to be fixed.
With the ABS, the way it's programmed, luckily emulates ABS systems in modern cars. If you've ever driven late 80's/mid-90's cars with ABS, those systems were usually absolute garbage, more likely to cause a crash than prevent one.
In real life, when you drive a car without ABS, you can feel just before the wheels lock up and let up on the brake pedal, with a game you don't get that feeling, you're relying on audio and visual cues to try to let you know when you need to let off a bit.

Just a suggestion but maybe dont immediately go to 3/4 throttle when not using tc? If you watch your throttle inputs, a lot of the oversteer issues happen when you are not gentle on the throttle. When you are more gentle your exits are a lot smoother. To clarify what i mean by gentle: a progressive increase of throttle up to the traction threshold based of speed and turning angle. If you hammer the pedal to half throttle very quickly, you are more likely to lose traction and spin. If instead you press the pedal to half throttle more gradually, you compress the rear springs and load the rear tires, making the car a lil more stable giving the tires a much better chance of keeping traction. Just food for thought. Its not impossible to drive high horsepower rwd cars without traction control. It is, however, difficult to get used to having to be that careful with the throttle. After some practice it can become something you dont have to think about anymore. Whether or not this is faster depends in you and the car so its still worth trying tc 1 and tc 0 in every car. But i do recommend practicing with tc 0 so you arent not completely reliant on tc to save you from your lead foot.

Is it faster to lift off when changing gears in manual cars ?

Seems to be a per case basic with TC and cars. Some 0 is best. Most 1. But, some I loose and spin on exit at 2 sometimes 3. Seems very varied by car and whether your a lead foot or not.
Hard with logitec G923 pedals to modulate
Interesting to see your take and confirm some of my thoughts. Thanks Ermin

Kazunori Yamauchi winner in his class in the 24H of Nurburgring created GT because of his love for cars and racing.
The man knows how real life (race) cars handle, and I'll take his word over any sim racer with no actual racing experience and friends that do trackdays with cars that almost drive themselves like the 4WD Hurracan, the handling of Lamborghini's have been going downhill ever since they introduced 4WD on the Diablo.
With the exception of the Gallardo Balboni wich was real wheel drive.

Is this why the 1.13 update radically changed the way RWD cars act on power? Was it perfect before or after? Was Kaz involved before or after? They seem mutually exclusive, so answer carefully.

@@Ermz Not one game or in this case sim is perfect, but you can always make it better when you find out where something doesn't work right.
Or are you telling me all cars in Assetto Corsa were perfectly balanced and never needed a fix?

I dont think this issue is whit power on exit, I have found that evem at slow speeds without throttle most cars will spin while cornerning. Just a fraction too much turn angle and your gone. Road cars are most affected by this.
It has to be something more complex than just adding power while exiting conrer. Most cars behave very wiredly. Its like they weight too little? Not to mention rally, bumpy roads and rain.

The MR and RR games are basically undriveable in the current game, without tuning them. Including brake balance in that.

In my experience most gt3 cars are fine with TC off. I keep tc off unless driving in the wet (I use LSD for TC). I agree with you on the realism.. Non of my cars react the way they do in GT 7.
