This is awesome, but those hose clamps are really scary! They can catch the sleeve of your shirt.... :/
Thanks for sharing this though! I am sure it will help a lot of people who need a small lathe. :)

That's right, it's the first thing I thought when I saw them, clamps are a danger.
On the other hand, some pieces look very weak.
      Otherwise excellent work !!

Thanks for live centre idea . Although as I'm making a lathe I'm going with cupping the wood over the bearing instead of tin and jubilee clips.. that unbalancing would stress me out.. the rest of your lathe though so much better than my work in progress.. I also don't have the tools you have at hand..

Сделано аккуратно. Показана чистовая работа. А хотелось увидеть чо-то интересное. Способы центровки, приёмы подгонки, хитрости разные. Ну и станку из дерева явно нужны элементы регулировки.
      А в целом станок крепкий!

What an absolutely brilliant video!!! I’ll be honest I don’t often like videos with no commentary but I think the way you do this less commentary is more intuitive as it helps the viewer focus on the process. You have gone to a lot of work to show each step of the process. You have really inspired me to sorting out my garage and perhaps get around to making myself a lathe. I have always wanted a lathe and I think this would be an amazing experience.
What do you think, would you be able to turn metal if you built a wooden Chuck and a maybe a different tool post to handle a metal cutting tool ?
Wouldn’t it be a great process to build a full metal turning lathe from an initial wood built lathe? If you could turn a decent size chunk of steel to make a small 4 jaw Chuck… ok would need a milking machine probably … ahh I’m starting to think …. Hmmm maybe not .,, but you could turn small metal items …. Anyway I’ll shush lol 😂
Thanks again buddy I’ll enjoy watching all your other videos. 😀😀😀😀😀😀

Hi, used your video to make my lathe.......stuck on making one part: the hold down pivoting bolt to quickly lock and release the tailstock and tool rest. I tried making a few diff versions and none of mine seem to lock in place like yours. Is there a certain location for the pivot hole and is the top cut an oval section or circle section. Do you have a sketch of yours or dimensions or a weblink I could go to? I tried moving the pivot hole and making diff arc cuts at the top....but I must be missing something here. By the way, the lathe works GREAT (as an alternate....I'm temporarily using using a simple bolt and nut, but I need a wrench to release it and lock it....time consuming and awkward as you can imagine. Thank You

@@GreenSaw Yes I found the Part 2 Page 2 dimension pdf. What I was looking for does not appear to be shown:
      a) location of the "center" of the pivot hole
      b) location of the "center" of the curved arc
      c) curved arc "radius"
Thank you so very much for replying.

Hey, Dude...Nice project... One suggestion... I used a hub / axel of a bycicle front wheel as tailstock life center in my homemade lathe build. It can take radial and axial load... More than is needed for a small wood lathe. Maybe i will make a video on that at some point in the future. Looking forward to see more videos on your cahnnel.... Greets from Germany..

A very well made video by a very creative person. Having made several power tools myself, however, the cost of "homemade" can sometimes cost as much as "store bought" if you cannot use scrap materials and used parts. The extreme low cost of power tools from China, once of laughable quality, but now quite serviceable, often precludes making your own. I built my last wood lathe using an old belt-driven grinder for a headstock and old bed rails for the ways.

I know its about building a lathe from wood and that`s what was achieved, great job
But I know that ply is not cheap, especially these days,
If I needed to get a lathe today I would buy a second hand wood lathe made from metal , I know I would pick one up cheaper today than making making one, because of the cost of wood, unless I already had the wood ,
The wood yards have really taken the pi-s on how much they have put the cost up, because of other materials gone up due to the the boom in building houses and the cost of materials,
    Its a shame

    pulley axis (previous vid')
    between threaded rod and bearing
    you need a 'ring'
(thin rectangular sheet metal, bent into a tube at rod diameter,
it must rotate with the bearing, but perhaps almost immobile / with threaded rod)

      'doll'
      maybe 2 bearings,
again a ring to connect them
and you squeeze the point on the ring as you do

Упор под стамеску на одном болте будит люфтить под нагрузкой, а хомутов навешал для "вибрации" и всё равно центр не держит задняя бабка....)))
