  • The Queens and Consorts of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and later the Windsor Dynasty reined over the United Kingdom and the British Empire. They sometimes spurred on and sometimes resisted the modernization of the world. They inspired their people and even fought during two world Wars. The modern Queens consort and male consorts were:
    Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
    Alexandra of Denmark
    Mary of Teck
    Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon
    Philip of Greece and Denmark
    Watch the whole series now: / lindsayholiday
    The lives of the many Kings and handful of Queens Regnant who have held dominion over the kingdom of England, and later the United Kingdom take center stage in history. But the lives of their spouses and mothers are often relegated to the wings. In this series we will learn the stories of the many Queens Consort and the handful of male consorts who have been at the monarchs’ sides. Through love, hate, adultery and sometimes murder these women and men have played vital roles in the history of England.
    I make mini documentaries about women's history and royal history:
    Queens of the World: • Queen Marie Antoinette...
    A History of... • A History of Childbirt...
    Royal History: • A History of Royal Inc...

    Prince Albert seemed like a rarity among the royals - loyal husband and loving father, managing the palace and able to secure the Royal Family's finance, giving his children equal tutelage and practical skills. Huh, no wonder Victoria truly loved him and got so depressed after his death.

    while there is a lot made of the drama of Diana's sons walking behind her funeral procession - honestly loosing a parent in an accident is sudden and traumatic no matter what decisions are made. I think they'd likely be regretting it now if they hadn't walked. Some things, you can't win either way. It's just going to be hard.

    • @ChemGirlLiberal
      @ChemGirlLiberal 3 роки тому +36

      My understanding is that Harry wanted to walk in the procession but William did not. Prince Phillip encouraged him to so his brother could and so he wouldn't regret it later and he walked with him in support. Not sure why Lindsay made it sound like Phillip bullied two grieving kids.

    • @Lizzie-ve7kt
      @Lizzie-ve7kt 2 роки тому +32

      Yeah I agree I don’t know why the video makes it seem like something it wasn’t. From my understanding of what happened, it was more so Philip asking his grandsons if they would feel better about doing it if he were to walk with them. That’s why he’s walking behind Diana’s casket, I’m pretty sure he originally wasn’t going to be a part of the procession. Plus, thinking about how he’d been separated from both his parents then having his favorite sister die when he was very young probably meant Philip had a lot of empathy for what his grandsons were going through and had the hindsight to know they’d more than likely regret not doing it, so he wanted to be there right beside them in the moment as added support and to encourage them to not let the grief they were experiencing in that moment lead to regret later on in life.

      unfortunately, people often get a better story out of villainizing philip. note how she didn’t talk about all the good that he contributed, much like she did albert, but instead talked about rumours that have very little to no ground at all. philip continued writing diana even after her divorce and she, very affectionately, called him papa or dearest papa. he was always loving towards his children and grandchildren, even if it was in a slightly stilted way. look at anne’s upbringing, for example.

    • @danaglabeman6919
      @danaglabeman6919 Рік тому +3

      @@ChemGirlLiberal Yes, quite a few sources have said that when William asked Prince Phillip what he should do, he said that he would support William in whatever he wanted, and would not allow anyone to try to force him one way or the other, but if it was him personally, he'd regret not doing it. We must remember that a Phillip of almost the same age chose to walk behind his sister's coffin despite being surrounded by Nazis, so he knew what he was about. It's interesting though that, nowadays, Harry says he regrets it. He admits he wanted to do it, but says he wishes at 12 that someone had talked him out of it, that he had no idea how traumatic it would be for him until it was too late.

    1:28 Something that should be noted. Alberts mother was only 16 when she was forced to marry a man almost twice her age. He had been sleeping around with prostitutes, servant girls & married women for many years, was very cold, unkind, abusive to his 16 year old wife. In her journals she writes of how her husband was "extremely rough, leaving bruises upon my womans parts as well, as chafing and extreme soreness, it has given me my sons, as is my wifely duty." After 8 years of cruel treatment, she left him. I would probably have left hi after 2 years.

    But considering her popularity I applaud her for being modest enough to announce and again confirm to not claim the title of "Queen Consort", since for many ppl Diana will always be their "Queen of Hearts".

It’s odd that a Queens consort can’t be King, it makes title Queen seem weaker. So both Camilla and Kate imo should follow Prince Philip and be Princess Consorts. I read in Alexandra’s biography that she was long skeptical of her German cousins, in fact she hated them. George’s changing the family name was attributed to Alexandra’s insistence for years after her husband died, that they appear British and divorce themselves from their German relatives.

      @@kerth2045 While it is true that all the royals at that time were at least partly of German descent (as was Alexandra’s offspring through her husband, who was probably mostly German), Alexandra’s mother half German or less, and though she was born in Germany, lived most of her life from age 3 in Denmark. Going back in her line, they were all born in Denmark and all at least partly Danish, mostly more than half. It’s a fine line, given the two countries are closely related as were their royal lines. Her father was Danish royalty. In fact, her father also had British royal heritage. But she was born and raised in Denmark and abhorred her German royal cousins, considered herself and her family Danish, and they were Danish royalty serving the citizens of Denmark. That’s a fact and makes her Danish. I don’t know your nationality, and whether you are European, but I think if you were European, especially at that time, you’d understand that concept better. It’s not like here in the US where we wear our heritage from a different land with pride, while pledging our allegiance to the country we were living in.

      @@kerth2045 Sorry, but Alexandra was mostly Danish. I explained that before. If one actually reads about her one would know. Prince Philip was also German. And he was Danish. And he was Greek. But-he’s British somehow? 🤔 Yeah. It’s not that simple. “Louise was born as the daughter of Prince William of Hesse-Kassel and Princess Charlotte of Denmark. Louise was Queen of Denmark as the wife of King Christian IX, her second cousin, from 15 November 1863 until her death in 1898.” Louise was HALF German. Which makes Alexandra 75% Danish. #Fact
