Correction: JFK was assasinated on 11/22/1963
Ever since the United States rejected hereditary Monarchy, Americans have had a fascination with political dynasties. The Adamses, the Roosevelts, and the Bushes have all become pseudo-royal families with multiple generations in high office. But no clan has embodied this more than the Kennedys. They achieved the American dream, going from penniless Irish immigrants to millionaires and world leaders in 3 generations. But their success has come at a high price. Two assassinations, four plane crashes, a failed lobotomy and numerous other tragedies have haunted this American dynasty. Everyone knows JFK, Jackie and RFK. But today we’ll meet all the Kennedy, explore their fascinating connections to Hollywood stars and European aristocrats, and the many tragedies which have lead to the idea of a Kennedy curse.

Do I believe in curses? No. But if I recognize a Kennedy getting on my flight, I will sweat.
It's not really curses, but bad luck and that's what's more frightening than a curse. You can make and even control a curse, but luck? Not a chance.
So it's understandable people get uneasy around the Kennedys: no one in the family is going out of their way to cause harm, but the fact is it just happens with them more often than it does the average person.
Or if like, you’re ever asked to ride in a topless caddie slowly through the streets of d…hell annnnny Texas city. Then maybe the trepidation would be real 😂
lol
Rip Rosemary Kennedy, she deserved so much better than what she got.
What if her issues started when she was born, when she was born, some nurse instead of helping the baby into the world, kept baby INSIDE the mother because doctor had not arrived yet...
@@helene4397 it’s important to note that a lot of people say that the Kennedys made that up to justify the lobotomy and that that never happened at all
Yes and the family tried to lie that doctors held the mother’s legs together at birth to victimize themselves to remove any culpability of how they tortured their own family member
@@helene4397Her issues were made horrible by the lobotomy… actually many discussions I’ve seen of her seem to lean towards her being more of a bad girl with questionable sexuality. It seems like the family has dramatized her difference prelobotomy to make it seem less crappy what was done to her.
@@arianna5270 It’s well documented that Rosemary was “held in” the birth canal to wait for the doctor to arrive. Clearly she would have had some mental impairment from this. Ever since then she had some prominent cognitive and behavioral issues that were seen as early as when she was a baby/toddler and she was not hitting some key milestones at the average rate and time frame. She then had seizures and mood swings which is what led her father to have her lobotomized because that’s what he thought would work to make her feel better.
Also her other sisters were sexually active and had boyfriends and nothing seemed to happen to them. Eunice, Patrica and Kathleen all come to mind.
Chris Pratt being in this video was such a jumpscare
Him and Schwarzenegger lol I was not expecting them
Lol did you not know he is married to a Kennedy?

No curse just a family with addiction problems and a father that pushed his kids too hard for the fathers own dreams
And a whole lot of affairs.
but also so many coincidences with deaths and tragedies...makes you think
I think , politically eise) that the higher up americans who remain unknown, billionaires, etc.. but mainly connections to the cia/nsa/fbi etc.. did not like them since their first generation when they become big, their father. Wanted to take them down so they set them up for death. @soilofk
@@patriot4095 if affairs led to curses...
Who would be left on the hill????????
@@SayYoJ did I say affairs led to curses? No, I was responding to the initial comment of it wasn’t a curse just a family with addictions and problems and I added also a family history of having affairs. No it doesn’t mean they were cursed because of that. I don’t know of any family that has an actual curse on their name.
Mrs. Rose Kennedy was the hand that rocked the cradle and taught her children to understand how privileged they were and that giving back was just as important as receiving.
All hail the Queen
Rose was a good mother. Too bad Joe went ahead with that lobotomy on Rosemary. He did it without Rose's knowledge.
@here_we_go_again2571 rose was not a perfect mother. She disowned her daughter Kathleen "Kick" (a young ww2 widow) after she remarried a divorcee. Kick didn't want to live her entire life as a widow and married for love. Rose refused to see her child. When Kick and her husband were killed in a plane wreck, she refused to go to the funeral and tried to keep Joe from going by claiming that she was sick. Kick was the daughter he was the closest to and was the only one to be at her burial.
Rose had horrendous body image issues and even had Rosemary hospitalized multiple times so she would lose 10 pounds before a press tour. After her and Rosemary were united after decades apart, one if the first things Rose did was tell the nuns to put Rosemary on a strict diet (they refused). When she first saw her mother, she was even violent and didn't want to see her.
Rose was a very intelligent woman and did a lot for the poor. She was also very petty and was jealous of her daughters for getting the education and freedom she was never able to have. They were both complex people who made horrendous mistakes that would cost them relationships with their children.
@@JenniJemm Kick never married a divorcee? She was married once ..... to Billy Hartington. He next beau was a divorcee but they never married. They were killed well before that.
You mean Countess Rose Kennedy lol
So, here's the thing. Curses make for good stories, but when people grow up rich, their common sense and self preservation is amazingly low. There's a reason celebrities and billionaires often die in some of the dumbest ways possible. Or why so many of them keep drinking and driving.
...and yet some of them become President in their 70s, never having faced a consequence in their entire lives...
True but the amount of bad luck that has followed this family, even to the present day is staggering
Precisely
Nobody deserved to be put through a lobotomy... my heart goes out to all those put under this horrifying procedure 💔
Yes, and the next big thing we’ll deeply regret as a society is the deliberate chopping off of healthy breasts and genitals from CHILDREN!! Plus, legally sterilizing our children by giving them puberty blockers and opposite sex hormones before they even become adults and have adult, mature feelings and judgement!! And all this, with little to no counseling or guidance or alternatives, or even simply waiting!!
All to please the LBGTQIA-RSTUVWXYZ community!! 😮😢
Kids are paying for all this with lost body parts, inferior replacement body parts, plus resulting lack of self-esteem and confidence and their abilities as natural citizens to be taken from them, plus duped parents and suicidal children as a result of all this failure!!
How could we be so in the dark in this day and age and think THIS is the best we could do for our precious CHILDREN!!
This is much WORSE than a lobotomy!!!!
I wish we could wake up from being woke!!!
I often ask older people who were around when Kennedy was assassinated what they remember. Common themes I’ve heard -
1. People crying
2. People freaking out
3. People looking at the tv in horror
4. Even republicans who hated him burst into tears
My mom was in school at the time and told me she went into the cafeteria for lunch and saw people in tears and was told what happened she went to a catholic school
My grandparents liked JFK to the point that one of my uncles is named Fitzgerald after him.
And that's the moment some people started locking their doors -- they no longer felt safe, they told me.
My parents would talk about that day sometimes.
My parents told me they'll never forget how SILENT their whole town suddenly became. Normally crowded restaurants and bars were empty that night. Those who were doing the necessary errands....grocery shopping, post office, etc., went about their business in shocked silence. Schools were dismissed early. Everyone who was out and about went home...and remained glued to their televisions for the next week. Surreal, and horrific. :(
My grandma told me where she was the day kennedy was assassinated. She and my Grandpa were newly weds and she was in their home cleaning when my grandpa burst in in the middle of the day when he should have been at work, yelling if she heard what happened to the president. They immediately ran and turned on the t v where they saw the news coverage. She told me that she never thought she would be alive to see a president get assassinated in modern time.
Honestly, aside from JFK and Bobby, the other Kennedy that I respect the most is Kathleen. Joe Sr. was determined to control the lives of his children, yet Kathleen was the only one to stand up to him and live her life the way she wanted, no matter how short it was. RIP to her ❤
I mean Joe Sr did support her and liked that she was that way. He supported her in her romantic relationships.
"My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life, but be remembered simply, as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw war and tried to stop it. Those of us who loved him and take him to his rest today pray that what he wished for others would some day come to pass for all the world. As he said many times, in many parts of this nation to those he touched and who touched him.
"Some men see things as they are and say, why? I dream things that never were and say why not."
~ Senator Edward Kennedy, Eulogy for his brother Robert F. Kennedy, June 8th, 1968. 🇺🇸
Bobby is my favourite Kennedy. Wish they didn't kill him too. ❤
It was a quote by George Bernard Shaw. JFK had also said it. RFK said it about JFK and Edward Kennedy said it about Robert
RFK Sr was the best of the lot...
@@Lili-xq9snmy sympathy goes to his widow and their children
I can't imagine losing a child two days after they're born. I feel for anyone who's lost a baby or a child.
I read a theory somewhere that Rosemary Kennedy was actually more intelligent than surmised. Scholars who support this theory point out to her diary entries, which imply that she was bright, a quick thinker and capable of complex thoughts. Also, her temper tantrums read less like a danger and more like a person frustrated with the expectations put upon them.
The issue that Joe Sr had was that she wasn't as smart as her siblings (who were overachievers, ambitious and dreamers). It also didn't help that she (as the oldest girl) didn't immediately take after her mother (the embodiment of a faithful, patient and adoring woman). As the oldest daughter, it was up to her to help look after her younger siblings, thus preparing her for marriage and motherhood. She was okay with doing that...but she wanted to be a socialite and do things that her siblings were doing.
It was that she didn't fit the mold expected of her and her "smart but not as smart" intelligence that led Joe Sr to consult Freeman.
The lobotomy was a tragic mistake.
She was probably reacting to the likely abuse in that family.
Rosemary was going to a good school in the Uk and thriving but wasn’t allowed to stay ; she unfortunately went back to the states with her family. John Jr wanted to act ; he was really good at acting but his mother forbid him to become a professional actor. I was at work when he was found deceased. What a tragedy and loss. He had so much promise. He also had ADHD and a good heart ♥️
😮wow! I didn't know he had ADHD! RIP john.

@@Magdalenkaization he was born premature?!
@@Magdalenkaizationuh, JFK Jr wasn’t premature…
@@KristenK78 Yes, he was born four weeks early.
My favorite Kennedy family story is RFK’s speech in Indianapolis the night MLK was assassinated. His speech is often cited as one of the main reasons that Indianapolis didn’t riot that night while other cities did. His call for peace and respect for Dr. King are his biggest legacy in this part of the US.
I'd say the family is plagued by Generational trauma I suspect starting with the great grandfather PJ who was clearly an alcoholic and escaping his own traumas. But the real recent trauma starts with Joseph P Kennedy 'a real chip off the block' and the way he treated his wife and children.
This I think explains the addictions and challenges the Kennedy's have faced and sometimes with devastating consequences.
This. And some of the members have spoken out against the regime, bit they have been ousted. Such a sad state of affairs
Thank you Lindsay, I was hoping that you would do this series.
*The thing that I liked best about Jack Kennedy was that unlike Prince Charles, Jack Kennedy was not jealous of his wife's*
*accomplishments and popularity!* When they went to France, EVERYONE was shouting "Jackie, Jackie" "Jackie!" Jack
introduced himself to the assembled dignitaries as " *The man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to Paris* "
*The French people loved him for that!* (In some other ways he was a horrible husband!)
PREACH
Jack treated his wife HORRIBLY - he only did that in public for political expediency. When she lost her first baby - stillbirth he was cruising the mediteranian sea on an orgy with young women and did not come home until he was told to come back or loose any chance at being president. he didn't come to bury his child or comfort his wife who spent 8 days in hospital alone.
“jealous of his wife’s accomplishments and popularity” is it just me or does anyone else also believes that sounds like total BULLSHIT??
BTW FYI TBH I’m not calling BS because I even buy that the NOW KING Charles was “jealous of” the disastrous Diana he fortunately doesn’t have to put up with anymore good riddance I never really liked disastrous Diana
@@noorbohamad5796....oh shut up and go touch grass. Show some respect. Everybody knows Charly was envious of his beautiful wife
It’s a shame that a lot of the men in that family didn’t put the same efforts into their marriages that they put into their social and political projects. Did any of those men keep their flies zipped up?
Doesn't sound like it.😅

Ugh, anything Kennedy related I just eat up! I've gone on far too many Kennedy deep dives to even remember! Thanks for this! Great work as always!
Wow. Both my parents were alive during the Kennedy assassination (my mom was 5, my dad 14) and my mom said that her mom was just in tears when she came to pick her up from kindergarten. And she told her that President Kennedy had been shot. It was her first real exposure to the concept of death. My dad said that people at his school were applauding. Good grief.
The Kennedy Curse! I've been intrigued with this topic for some time now! Thank you for covering it!
I agree! There's for sure a curse! Plus having others out to get them.
I was 9 yrs. old in 1960 and stayed up late to hear the election results. It was close, but we had us an IRISH CATHOLIC PRESIDENT, John F. Kennedy. I was 13 and 18 when JFK and RFK were sadly assassinated. Horrific. I thought I knew everything on this iconic family, but your research and video here has enlightened me on a few things not public way back when. Thank you!
When I was a kid there was a show on pbs called fetch with ruff ruffman that Ted appeared on, he had challenged one of the contestants to survey whether or not the school day should be extended a few more hours. The kid did such a good job that Ted asked if he would like to come work for him after he finished school
I remember that episode!
A Black woman designed Jackie's wedding dress. Apparently, when she was asked who made it, she said that she wanted to go to France, but a colored dressmaker designed it. Very blasé about it.
JFK was a humanitarian. Flawed, yes. But a humanitarian. My Mom was only 12 when he was assassinated & 17 when RFK was assassinated. I believe he loved Jackie even though the infidelity. I know she loved him as she was heartbroken when he was assassinated.
The children kept her going reminds me of my mother telling me that she’d use motherhood as motivation when was depressed as heck suffering HORRIFICALLY through arthritis pain she stills suffers but at least seems comparatively better than before well hopefully
That is a crazy amount of tragedy. Beyond any normal family.
There are families as we speak that have spent generations in war zones or deep poverty. What the Kennedys went through is a lot, but it's not rare, and many times it's worse.
@@ledam2654 I am sure that is true. It is a lot compared to my family and a lot of other families I would believe. That or more amount of tragedy in any family is sad.
There was no curse, just a family with unfortunate things that happened
Wow! I did not know that Chris Pratt was connected to the Kennedys! 😮
Well his mother-in-law is Maria Shriver. Whose mother was a Kennedy.
What happened to Rosemary sickened me- like of course she was frustrated because she struggled to do what her family was doing- so no wonder she acted out. But like… her father suggested the lobotomy- did her mother not have a say?! My word that poor woman
Apparently Nope
It was 1941. Women were the property of their fathers or husbands. Even with her being 23 at the time, Rosemary had no say in the matter. And Rose wasn’t told until afterward, when it was clearly a failed procedure-I think I’ve heard that Joe knew she would object to it. He couldn’t hide it from her afterward, but he did make her complicit in sending Rosemary away, even if she didn’t know where.
It's shocking how so many of the Kennedy's had such bazaar deaths. Heart attack at a gym? Heart attack while doing yoga all those plane crashes can't be a coincidence they're definitely cursed.
Especially the males
How about Katherine's daughter and grandson drowning over a stupid ball. That is freaky and preventable.
Great show! Only thing missing is on the family tree with Maria Shriver, her youngest son, Christopher, wasn’t listed. She had four children with Arnold. If I remember right, Christopher was born the same year his son with the maid was born.
The only Kennedy curse is arrogance.
Arrogance and poor judgement in spades and some bad luck for good measure
@@kalifogg6610nah no bad luck greed and karma
Joseph Kennedy was what we call today, a bully! As a Bostonian, I've had the opportunities to work, teach and socialize with some of the Kennedy clan, in person. My experiences have shown me a family that is very motivated for public service and extremely normal. Thank you for this ❤
What were they like?
What a horrible man the father was thank goodness they had their mother to teach them to be good people x
Even there mother was a bad person 😭
@gaby.lowkeyxx3384 it was all about keeping up with the Jones's back then and tradition and who had theast power happiness and being good people didn't come into it
Under no circumstances should anyone get into any form of conveyance driven, piloted, or helmed by a member of this family.
I am an Aussie with Kennedy obsession. I have over 100 books now. I went on a tour when visiting Boston many years ago and they pointed out the Kennedy homes around Boston. That started my quest to see every Kennedy home still standing, I finished in February 2020 by going to see The Kennedy Winter White House at North Ocean Blvd on Palm Beach. It has since been demolished. Took me 16 years and MANY trips! I have now been to every Vanderbilt home still standing...I finished that quest in Biltmore, North Carolina. Collecting spoons would have been a cheaper hobby!
This is by far the earliest I have ever been for one of your videos. By far the best way to start my day!
There is a photo of my grandfather holding me in front of the black draped White House when I was three. We were stationed on the DC base at the time.
I was obsessed with this family for years when I was a teen. I read every book about them I could find.. I always manage to learn something new about this family. I think Rose's parents were cousins or second cousins (explains some of the health issues that plagued Rosemary etc). Rosemary's story always makes me feel so sad. JFK was a war hero and Eunice was a beautiful woman inside and out.
Rosemary likely lost oxygen during her birth. They made Rose wait to push until the doctor arrived.
Eunice has always been the sister I admired most.
I was not quite 11 when President Kennedy was shot. What I remember most was the funeral - the horse drawn carriage with a draped US flag, Jackie, John John and Caroline standing at the gravesite, and little John John saluting. I was in high school when Robert was shot. The Kennedys were definitely a fascinating family. A lot of tragedy, but I don't believe in curses.
I guess it’s possible both that curses could be real BUT ALSO could be NOT real same with lots of other stuff too
Addictions seems to be the Kennedy curse
And reckless behavior
Addictions contributed to, in part, by personal choice, from what I've seen.
Thank you for covering the Beales, Big and Little Edie.
I don't know about a curse, but there sure is a lot of bad stuff going on in that family. So sad for the one woman who had developmental issues and was abandoned by her dad.

It wasn't mentioned in the video, but only her father attended Rose's funeral in her family. Not even her own mother attended, instead refused to attend and checked herself in the hospital. Its believed that her family kept her death quiet due to Fitzgerald still being married (going through a divorce) at the time of their death.

Best President we never had, Bobby Kennedy. They always kill the good ones. ❤
Like my great grandfather he was alive until I was a teen
And they still keep RFK Jr from the dem nomination. Gee I wonder why? Maybe because many members of this family actually care or cared about America despite their flaws and likely abusive upbringing
My Goodness.....a thorough and well presented narrative. Learned some things I didn't know; some of which was rather difficult to hear.

This was fascinating. Some of them did a lot of good and helped a lot of people. I would love to understand why the males had so many affairs very icky? I do actually believe there is some sort of curse so many accidents in one family, I hadn't realised the extent of it.
Probably learned behavior. Their fathers cheated on their mothers, and they continued the cycle
The death of JFK Jr. is emblematic of the thoughtlessness and recklessness of this family. Unlike his uncles and father, he wasn’t a degenerate, but he gave no thought to the safety of his wife, sister-in-law, and the airline he could have collided with. It’s a part of this family’s ambition and entitlement.
Just been having a Jackie Kennedy binge. This is a weird coincidence
I think one of my favorite scenes in the crown is when the Kennedys visit the Queen. Jackie and Elizabeth have some really human moments. It’s a little funny that Elizabeth was jealous in the show when Jackie was perpetually nervous around her.
So interesting! Thanks for this one!! Yes, so much tragedy in one family!
I wish this would become a series on American “royalty”
This was riveting, Lindsay!
What a mess of a family!!! So many tragedies and secrets.
I don't think anyone who has read the recent book about this family will *ever* look at them the same way. GROSS abusive men,
I can’t look at them the same. Was kind of hoping she’d cover some of the things that have come out. Think when you live life with that amount of disregard for other people, tragedy will follow in some way.
Oh the recent book written by a huge Trumper Republican who says she “took license” in her book? now if she truly cared about women as she claims she does, why support Trump and never call him out on his behavior towards women? oh because she doesn't actually care about women. She's a right winger who doesn't like Democrats or their families.
Her sources in this so called book include The National Enquirer, journalist-ragpickers like Kitty Kelley and a rotating crew of ax-grinders, including a low-level Senate aide whose claims of rampant cocaine abuse fell apart pretty quickly under scrutiny. There’s so many other better books and better sources than this. Also she literally says nothing new.
Anyways maybe pass on this “author” who claims she’s fighting for women yet writes for the Daily Mail and goes on Fox News to do interviews.
I just finished watching the Kennedy doc series History channel last year. 8 episodes of great info that I wasn't aware of. Especially regarding the Cold War and Cuba
Fun fact. Robert F Kennedy and his wife Ethel have a Taylor Swift song written about them and their love story. Starlight from Red. Rosemary deserved way better, how could someone put their child through a lobotomy is something we’ll never understand even when they had intentions and not a great one at that and i feel with rose and joe, appearances was more important than their kids’ lives and how cold rose was to not attend Kathleen’s funeral i couldn’t even imagine .
Sometimes in these situations you can’t help but wonder what would’ve been like had JFK jr lived and would he had followed in his father’s footsteps and Jackie would’ve been beyond devastated had she had to endure losing jfk jr in the plane crush had she would’ve been still alive at that time, and Bobby would’ve continued his work, you can’t help but wonder about those things.
Do i feel that there may be a curse? With the amount of tragedies and scandal this family endured, one may believe so.
