My favorite is Metro Center on busy days. It is exciting to see the hundreds of riders getting to their trains on the 2 levels. It just feels so alive with action.
It has been awhile since you've railfanned the great Metro-North. I think it is ok to say 'Grand Central station' will definitely take that over 'Grand Central Madison' yuck! The NY Central heritage unit is by far my favorite out of all the Metro-North heritage units. The 40th anniversary employee tribute heritage unit is a second favorite. 8:50 ah, the beautifully maintained M3A units. Love those. Sure hope they stick around for many more years. 11:32 yep, I heard it 👍 at 10:45. 13:24 excellent view. Scarborough is a beautiful station. 17:05 beautiful view point!
Those locations along the Hudson remind me of scenes in NORTH, BY NORTHWEST when Carey Grant’s character meets the one played by Eva Marie Saint onboard the TWENTIETH CENTURY LIMITED, the distinctive catenary poles flying past and river views outside their dining-car window.
Very timely video. Just rode Amtrak's Empire Service down this line last week. Absolutely beautiful ride. The scenery is breathtaking. I did manage to see the Conrail heritage unit parked at Croton Harmon, but nothing else. As always, excellent video and commentary.
I was in New York over the Labor Day weekend and wish I'd gotten the chance to ride on an M3a. Sadly, I ended up getting a push-pull set riding from Marble Hill to GCT. Incidentally, it was my first actual ride on both Metro North and the LIRR. Next day, I got the ferry from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport and rode the New Haven M8s back to GCT. Overall, it was a great time and I wish I could do this more often, but my finances prevent me from doing so.
The lantern flies haven't been bad this year in the Philly area. They were worse over the past few years. I thought the Empire service trains were longer, they reminded me of the Keystone trains in length. I'm looking forward to Sunday's open house at Hoboken terminal. If you're there, I will be in either my Dodgers or Phillies gear and then heading to the Bronx.
If I understand you aright, the “echo” of which you speak mimics part of a passage from the second movement of Beethoven’s “Emperor Concerto”-in its complete form, that is. I hear it on LIRR and IND/BMT cars of recent manufacture.
I go to Stevens institute of technology in Hoboken. There’s a section on campus with about a thousand squashed lantern flies. It looks like a battlefield.
@@3985uprr agreed. They seemed fairly tame throughout summer too. This year I’ve had more issues of them landing on me while filming than ever before and its annoying.
Good morning brother Tim You’re so right about that, don’t say Grand central station or Grand central Madison 😂😂😂😂. Have an awesome Friday the 13th and have a wonderful weekend 🫡
I’ve squashed like at least 20 plus lanterns during my visit up in Riverdale around Labor Day. Though there aren’t as much as they were last year which is a good thing.
26:02 to 26:19 That’s because they’re nearing retirement. All 92 M9s in the original order have now been delivered, so this may very well be their last year
I believe those lantern flies came over from China in a shipment of decorative stone not far from Fleetwood, PA, where you've done some great train-spotting videos in the past. I'm down in Oley, PA, not very far from ground zero. The flies aren't as bad down here as they are up there in the Hudson Valley.
Really enjoyed this video and many many of your others as well. I’ve noticed in a number of your videos you know what engines or cars will be on a specific train. Is there an app or website that you use?
Thank you for stepping on em! get some work in while railfanning, always a good deal to me.

I love that humming sound M7s make when they are speeding towards you.

Nice video.. And it's Grand Central Terminal!!! Thanks Tim👍👌😀
Took me a while as a kid to realize when someone said you were going to be sent up the river, it meant being sent to sing sing.

1:52 nice view of the New York Hudson River

Never thought of that I have to listen to it
As a fan of classical, I'll definitely check that out.

Can’t get over the proliferation of those things

I was thinking that. Well, they were good while they lasted. Sure hope Tim gets to do another rfw view video before they're completely out of service.
We shall see
10:31-10:45 The third rail contact shoes are also different from Long Island m7 . metro north also doesn't do regen braking
Didn’t know about the braking. Yes they use under running third rail.
11:09 i think they combined the boston section
Yeah, there's no Boston Lakeshore until October 31st
All of it now goes to NYC
@@NS1221Productions Yea that's what I thought also you post some great videos
@@NS1221Productions oh something I didn’t know
Like the cool new typeface
Easily the prettiest train line in the New York City Metropolitan area.
Agreed.
TERMINAL!! TERMINAL!!😂😂😂
😂
1:04 what about just grand central
Gotta be complete. Grand Central is acceptable, but the terminal is best
11:09 was that the whole lakeshore limited?? It seems like the section to 448 was already hooked up.
449 gets added at Albany. Even longer west of there
For now on until October 31st
There is no 448 and 449 to Boston
The whole Lakeshore limited will now go to NYC and from NYC
Ossining...Home of the "Big House", the Indian Point Nuke plant and multiple UFO sightings....

Which metro north p32 was at 15:49?
Modern day paint scheme. Couldn't see the number though.

The MTA TrainTime app helps out plus various websites

Are any Hudson and Harlem line trains longer than 8 cars?
Harlem I think has a 12 car train
