Yes the 203 looks like it needs a paint job but it will probably be one of the first engines to be replaced by one of the new Charger locomotives. Two of them are already on the property going through acceptance testing. I am proud to have my photo on the side of the 214. Nice video. Brought back memories of my time at Metro North.
I've always wanted to visit Metro North's Croton Harmon shop. Sad that I never got the chance. So many reasons why Metro North is the best MTA operated railroad. Having an open house to the public is one of those reasons. Another great video, Tim.
My uncle was an engineer for Metro-North Railroad in the 90’s and took me to Croton Harmon’s Open House. I had fun seeing the FL9 and the other locomotives they had there 😊
17:47 Very cool. I've always been intrigued railroad tracks and switches and the work done by maintenance of way. 20:53/ 21:13/ 23:52 Just gorgeous! Love them M3A! Fantastic piece of American railroading equipment. Would love for Athearn and/or Scale Trains to make a proper HO scale of an M3 in it's original blue stripe or Metro North stripe color. 24:03 love that M3 truck and those brand new wheels. 24:10 That is my favorite of the Metro North heritage paint schemes 33:06 now that is cool. I'm sure that attracks a lot of attention from kids. 34:15/ 34:46/ 35:48 Love that they inform the public on how the railroad operates and the steps taken to ensure safety. 39:24 Loving that shot of the M3 41:32 I will say, that laser train paint job is fascinating. Excellent work, Tim. You are by far my favorite railran channel!
Wonderfully crafted & documented video presentation. A perfect way for any railfan to enjoy viewing the equipment & staff of a working commuter railroad. Great use of your archived action shots to compliment the items showned at the open house. Well done, sir! Thank you for sharing with your viewers!
Love ALL your videos. I love trains and I am trying to learn all I can about them. My ride experiences are limited, to CT rail to GC and Springfield, Ma. But, I am learning a lot via your videos. I also go to the model train show at the Big E grounds
Great video. And thanks for explaining the difference to the clueless out there the difference between a terminal and a station. Coming up the Empire Connection , it looks like north Philly .
Really interesting video. Aside from the show, it was great to see all of the different equipment in use. I used to live where I could see the New Haven line trains pass by and always wanted to drive them. Then, I found out that a neighbor did just that and I told him that when he retired, I wanted his job.
@@3985uprr As a Mets fan, beating the almost season long first place Phils was very gratifying...too bad we couldn't beat the Fake Dodgers because we would have definitely beat the Evil Empire.....Cool video though.
I had gone to the open houses before the new shops were built, unfortunately I was running a garage sale that day, it was a different weekend in October. I’ll try next year. I live in Ossining and can get to it. I have a friend Rick Barr a track worker told me about it but I was already committed to the yard sale. They used to have an excursion up to the bear mountain bridge. There should be one in the pc logo dark green that’s the era I remember most that ran gg1 locomotives by where I lived in the Bronx. Watched plenty of trains growing up. Love your videos, I enjoy watching them , feel like I’m riding along.
I manufactured the control panel faceplates throughout NY Metro for General Railway Signal, Safetran, Union Switch in the 80's and into the early 2000's.
Two things: Yes to painting the MU fronts grey and range, but add Dashing Dan. Second LIRR should get the Obs cars back during the summer for the "cannonball". Very nice video.
This is probably one of the best videos I've ever seen on your channel! It's sad that I wasn't able to go to this event, though. I probably would have loved it! Also, please let us know if you ever manage to find Conductor Paul's photo on that number 214. I'm quite curious about what would happen if he was assigned to a diesel train.
I really didn’t look at the pictures because they were just so many of them and I was trying to get as much as I could there in the limited a lot of time that I had. I did notice a couple of employees on the 214 though.
...I was in New York this past weekend and took a train to Poughkeepsie yesterday (when this video was recorded)... I had no idea this was a thing. We did see a bunch of railfans at Croton Harmon and my dad was curious as to why. Well, now we know heh. Train trip was a little crazy. We ended up getting switched out to a different train twice before leaving grand central and having a medical emergency at Ossining leading to our train sitting there for 15 minutes. In the end we learned 230 was leading us so we got something out of that (As far as I know, that's the only heritage unit with a Penn Central badge on it. Correct me if I'm wrong on that). I may have missed this one but there's one happening in Ivy City with Amtrak that's happening in November that I will be attending.
Good day Tim, just upset cause I missed the Croton Harmon open house, how does one know when the next open house will be, were do you find this out, and also I missed the hoboken festival, thank you so much for the video.
i like NJ Transit's idea of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." 4208 needing a new engine, they could've just retired it, but they decided to put in a new one instead, which will absolutely prolong the life of that locomotive for AT LEAST another 15 years.!!!
Tim, do the GP40-2Hes have to travel all the way down the New Haven line to the interlocking with the Hudson Line (used for the New Haven Line Yankee Stadium Trains) to get up to the Harmon shop?
Tim, thanks, this was great. Really informative. Why do most MNCR P32’s smoke so badly and sound worse than GEVO’s? Except for the 211, of course, and rightfullly so, given its “heritage.” And thanks for the action videos at the end … a super bonus!!!!!!!!
Well of course they do. It’s like a garage for a car; all vehicles need storage and maintenance facilities for when they need servicing and when service stops for the night
