1986 was the first time I saw a NASCAR race in person (Bristol spring race). I've had tinnitus ever since, but it was worth it. I drove a lot of races in this mod back in the day, makes me happy to see it again.
"it's like very processional - and then moments of sheer terror" This is on point. Watching this in a kind of meditative state with constant thrill of something to happen.
I love the old liveries. Back in the early 2000s I used to race full race seasons on the PS2; My girlfriend and kids thought I was nuts. I was racing on Pocono and had about 15 laps left when the big blackout in New York happened and had to run the race again the next day. I'll be cheering for Harry
I'm neither a NASCAR, Race Sim nor even Raw Stream watcher guy, but nevertheless the thumbnail with the old colourful cars caught my eye and I found myself watching the full race, it was very enjoable, you hit a good balance of commentating mostly on important or interesting things whilist letting the game and your racing shine for themselves that made me very immersed and by the end invested in the result. Shame about the yellow it really caught you in the worst moment, but seeing as it was a risk you knew well beforehand I suppose it was fair, and you did your best to recover what you could from it, that battle for the 12th Position had me on the edge of my seat. Great video, I'll probably save some time next weekend to watch another race.
Absolutely loved the race, it was well-driven and quite entertaining. I think a lot of people undervalue mid-pack racing and the experience of fighting for a top-10 or top-15 finish. I would love to see a whole season of this, although I'm definitely not donating a euro per championship point in the classic NASCAR points system :D
Remind me.when racing in 2003 in the french League. Great race. You rock !!! Very clean, and patient. Would like to see Indianapolis !!! Darlington or Phoenix.
I missed the live stream, but I just finished watching this whole race!! This was awesome. Definitely, my era of nascar. I'd love to see more, or, maybe the 1992 season??
This was fun as hell to watch. Took me 3 days here and there when I had free time, so I can only imagine what it was like doing it all in one go. Great stuff
Was out for Sunday lunch today during the stream so unfortunately could not watch live stream. But enjoying the replay. Thanks Jake, top class as always.
Well enjoy that watch time for your analytics Jake as I've managed to watch all 4hours over the past few days whilst washing up, doing house chore all replying to work stuff on our forums haha. Beautiful race, loved to see it all evolve. I love this be it your longer form AMS2 stuff, oval stuff in older sims, its just great to see AI racing being so much fun.
Awesome video! I’ve been running a full length career mode in NR2003 for several years now. Started in 1989 and am now in mid 1995. If you’ve got the AI tuned like this where every position is a battle, nothing beats it.
Took me long enough to remember that when I was working on this edit, I did the unpainted walls after seeing pictures from 1990. Weird it was the only year the walls weren't fully painted. Anywho, another great video as always and congrats on the good run!
7:08 Have you ever heard of Bill Elliot Nascar Challenge? I used to play it as a kid so it's the racing game I remember most and loved. His car was faster than everyone obviously lol. Please do some content with it in the future.
I will watch a bit later but so stoked. Love the vintage nascar. I wish my powerful pc would stop crashing my frame rate on this game... everything else I can run on ultimate. But nr2003 20 min in and frames drop from 144 to 6 so aggravated
@F1stuff972 I actually did this year back in February! The journey since has been wonderful. I must say your timing was spot on along with my life group leader. Both you and him managed to reach out at a moment i needed a reminder. It has been a very trying week, so I truly thank you.
I’d love to see you maybe do 3-4 of these a year. I think a Watkins Glen live stream with this gen car would be awesome. I know you just did the Busch North vid, but still would be awesome
Great race, liked the classic Nascar action! What quick release addon did you add to your Fanatec Podium adapter? Looks like a Sim Lab Xero-Play QR Base, or is it something else?
Its a cheaply made one from "Modengzhe" called the 'slim release' I don't recommend the one I have, the fitment is awful and it took me a while of adding rubber filler to get it to fit snug enough to feel good
This makes me want to fire up the 87s on iracing and do a 500 mile/lap season with 32 events. You could probably do 30 different tracks with all the 1.5s on there too.
What pc do you use to run all these old games? I would love a similar setup. Honestly, old as they are this experience fits 2024 perfectly well. Very good.
Are you using .CTS physics that are standard with Aero88 or did you swap them? Maybe it's a gearing issue, but you are CRUISING down the straights compared to me. Like 15 MPH more.
Man it sucks NR2003 seems very finicky when you try to set it up the free way instead of having the actual disc, because I've been craving this type of nascar racing recently, but don't know where to start with setting up NR2003 and then modding it as well
1:45:05 ...you know what gets me about watching Nascar as a brit? Its the fact that we banned Tobacco advertising at races around this time period, meanwhile in America ....casual marshals booth (or whatever it is) dressed as a giant cig packet 😂
Our foolish government banned it, too, in 2003. That really hurt racing teams. It was done for no legitimate reason; smoking rates had been declining since the 70s, and in hindsight the rate of decline has been about the same in the last 20 years. At least the tobacco brands are still getting retroactive advertising through classic races and mods like this. That's government for ya.
the 2nd Pocono race in 1986, which used to be run after the Firecracker 400, was where Neil Bonnett got hurt in a bad crash while driving a 2nd car for Junior Johnson. Fast back Chevy Monte Carlo SS's, Buick Le Sabre's, Oldsmobile Delta 88's , and, Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2's ( rare to find because so few were actually produced by GM) and Ford Thunderbirds...Bias ply tires and four wheel slides...No spoiler rules. no speed limits in the pits...Petty drove the D.K. Ulrich 6 at the 2nd Michigan race because he crashed or blew up two of his back u cars in practice. Had to Purchase DK's car to keep his points up.. PS: The reason you didn't finish in the top 10 was because you broke with your strategy on the last pit stop of pitting with the leader. had you done that you were in line for a 6 to 9th place finish... Will we see more of "Buddy Roscoe's" career trajectory in the 1986 NASCAR season??
