- Today we restore a: 1995 GT PERFORMER Freestyle BMX
you asked for this one, so here it is.
hope i did this one proud.
From a rusty frame and fork to gleaming chrome.
mostly original spec or era correct parts.
the hardest parts to find were the Wheels
there is a video on citric acid baths in the how too playlist along with a full video on refurbishing the Bulldog Brakes.

When I was a kid I wanted a '94 Performer for my birthday. My grandpa surprised me with a '95 Pro Freestyle Tour non team. Switched the bars with Power lite 4 piece bars. Rode the stuff out of that bike on my quarter pipe and flatland. Miss those days.
Love hearing stories like this. One of the reasons why I do the videos. I have a 95 pro freestyle tour frame and fork in the waiting list to be restored. Just need to find a few more parts and order the decals. . Subscribe if you havnt already so you sont miss it. Thank you

That chain and bottom bracket ended up way too tight... But overall good habits though for everything else. That acid bath came out great! Nice resto. That's work to be proud of!
Thank you for the comments. I'm proud of them all. I've always over tightened the crank since I was a kid as they always worked loose in a week. Love the acid baths. Brilliant results for minimal effort.
Such a rad restoration with some original components!! GT all around! As true of a GT that can be. Love that you stayed with the one piece cranks like we used to ride. Do you ever sell any of your builds?

Try some wire wool and gt85 on stubborn rust. Great video. this was my first decent Bmx.

Thank you. Yes you did indeed see a mongoose. Sadly not a real DMC. It's a hooligan I stickered as dmc in the late 90s. I will be putting it back to a hooligan at some point.
Hia buddy what a great video from start to finish , I have a question to remove rust do you ever do the foil and water technique or does it create micro scratches and that’s why you use citric acid ? I need to get started on mine, Thanks in advance
Hi thanks for the comments.
I have a video on the tin foil method. It works well if the rist isnt too bad.
I use citric acid as it's cheap and you can let the frame stew in it. Once it's done , the rust will come off with a gentle brush.

@whitewellybmxrestorations bmx certainly evolved over the years. Many quirks including no brakes and handle bars that barely had any bars 😅

What is the model of that rear brake? Will it fit a 99 Dyno Compe?
Hi its an Odyssey pitbull 1 . Yes it mounts onto the normal brake bridge but if you have a u brake it wont fit.
What brand are those tires ?
