  • VIDEO: A 90-minute stint in the early evening peak at Weybridge station on the South Western Main Line, featuring South Western Railway class 158s, class 159s, class 444s, class 450s, class 455s and a class 458.
Weybridge station was opened on 21 May 1839 by the London and Southampton Railway to serve the aforementioned town in Surrey. In 1848, a branch line to Chertsey was built and eventually linked up with the Windsor, Staines and South Western Railway at Virginia Water in 1866. The line was quadrupled in the 1900s and electrified in 1907, though steam expresses to the seaside resorts of south-west England continued until around 1967.
Nowadays, the station comprises of two side platforms for through trains and a terminating platform for trains via Virginia Water. As per many stations on the section between London Waterloo and Woking, there isn't a tremendous amount of variety with all stock coming from the single operator but they come through on a very regular basis, meaning you'll get a lot through in a short space of time.
