When I am not using Chameleon 177uhs euro clear and using budget clear I use Acme Finish 1 FC740. Its a great clear. The FC720 production clear isn't bad either
Not sure the temperature where you are during this. What helps with eliminating orange peel in the summer i use slow activator. In the winter i use medium and i pre heat the jugs of clear by putting both jugs the clear and activstor in buckets of hot water to warm up the clear first. I was going to say as you know quality gun makes big differences but you said the DV1 which is what I use all 3 DV1 guns. Not sure which cap you use at 18psi. I use the C-1 cap it came with and spray at 10psi slow and steady
I'll drop Tamco 4100. I've been interested in Finish 1 because sometimes the budget dictates something but for a wee bit more I love some 4100. Try it it's about say 3x better than Shopline clear at the same price or less. High Solids or close to that (med-high)
Tamco hc4100 or hc2104 HS clears for custom jobs. Tamco has a nice selection. Haven't tried Speedokote products but I hear they're good and they alot of other products. Nice work👍
You said 18 psi only?did you use the c1 or c2 cap and also what tip size do you use? I am laying finish1 with the same gun so would like to know also how long did you wait between clear coat layers? Looks like glass. Just ordered this DV1.
I use about 16-20psi on base and 18-21 psi on the clear. I use FC720 finish one clear. If I’m spraying the whole car I wait 10-12 minutes the moment I finish one coat at 70-90 degrees, parts I wait about 5-7 minutes. Don’t let the clear cote dry between coats. Your second coat is normally supposed to be heavier the the first.
@@bzoewitwheels4029 Awesome just interested in what you used for the FC720 clear. Thanks will give it a try when my gun gets here today. That car came out Awesome :).
I’ve been spraying finish1 for 4 or 5 years now. Been bouncing around with other budget clears due to supply issues. Imperium,Upol or any other brand do not hold a candle to the sprayability and the way it lays down
Shopline is my shit 7 year no fade back life span. Been using this finish 1 clear coat and it shrinks in a few days and looks like shit only few months later. But the reason I been using it is because I am getting paid to do lease return cars and quick money is how that goes. Let me know the date on this video is 2 months ago. How do it look now? did it die back and fade already?
I would absolutely not let $50 to $100 price difference stand in my way of a better clear than won't die back or fade from UV rays. All the time and labor that goes into a refinish on any car be it a resto or a spot repair. It just doesn't make sense to me using a $100 gallon of clear or a $100 spray gun. You are already saving 4k to 7k by doing it yourself. I will spray $400 gallon clear through a $600 gun all day long. I know what I'm going to get and I know it will last a decade easy maybe two.
@@KJsGarage i was asking as i picked up a gallon but debsting using it on my tundra repaint. So i shoukd be looking into a High Solids Clear then? Is SMR42 good for a full repaint of a car i am going to keep?
@@LuisC202 if it’s high solids then you can’t beat it for the price. High solids are good for more show car applications, but it all depends on the finish you are going for. I’ve used medium solids and high solids. I learned the hard way how high solids can run on you if you don’t keep the gun moving. Mistakes only make you better. I’ve heard good things from the FC720, I’ll be using it to paint my cousins car later this summer for a budget build.
🎯 Grant 7 ! Good stuff. Pro tip here, don't try it if your a beginner or have a cheap spray gun with mediocre skills. Really don't try it if you have a small compressor and a hvlp gun. Bump up the air pressure a bit with Grant 7 it's thick like syrup.
Finish 1 is the only way to go I’ve been using it over 13 years no issues last years in the heat of Texas
Killed it on the stencil and pin stripe work! Looks good
Incredible job...love the honesty and tips...
Appreciate you boss!
Yes this is good top notch clear it has an additive in it that makes it hard to run its also

Heard 740 shines the most , how does it spray? Runny?

Spi euro clear is my favorite but I just ordered some fc720 for a cheaper job im doing on my daily. I'm curious to see if I can tell the difference.
What was the verdict?
Sounds great! Did you use it?
🫡💯💯 I still use the FC 720

Have you used Finish1 FC720 yet?
@@LuisC202 No not yet. I hear it a good budget clear coat. Not a high solids clear so it’s on the thinner side.

Isn't that just someone else's rebranded clear? Where does Grant 7 clear get manufactured?
