WOW, the 271 sounds really good, I wish I could send you mine. But even in stock form, I'm always impressed with it's performance. All the best to you and yours.
Wanted to say thank you as I just did a 271 out of the scrap pile based primarily on your videos. Been wanting to try some porting after 2 years of research, nor did I want to play with timing as Im simply not there yet. But I opened things up did a muffler mod went through the carb, new bearings, and pop-up pistons. runs well. Thank you
Hey there Mr Hopper! I like the disclaimer you opened with and I love the fact that you are willing to provide your custom services for the customer simply because they asked. I repaired a plastic bodied Eager Beaver on video... In came the comments! “Waste of time”, “They should get a 395xp and not mess around with that junk”! It belonged to a little 70 year old man who used it annually to trim a couple apple trees. Yeah, he really needed a big Husky!🤪 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Omg you should see prices now supply chain gouging or inflation or whatever it is. Shops in Oregon haven’t had any product for months and now they have product and nobody’s gonna buy it because it’s too expensive
So did you pug up the original muffler outlet or did you leave it open . I've got a 271 but all I did was open up the original outlet on the muffler bigger which was a pain . I'm not real happy with it doesn't seem to be very pepe and the 271 I have is better than that one cause it has Farm Boss on it 😂🤣 but I noticed it does have farm boss on the bar . I need to do that intake mod and probably drill hole in muffler and do it . What size conduit did you use for that little piece of pipe. I've got 1/2 , 3/4 , and 1 inch but I haven't never used the 1 inch on anything .
@@bellhoppersaws Got it , believe I'm gonna do muffler and intake mod soon . I took the saw out of a military trailer I have ( that was on a assembly line to manufacturer trucks ) that I made a into field ( AKA cow pasture ) trailer that I have chainsaws and trimmers in tool boxes to work on trees on the fence lines and in pasture .
One thing I will say about the MS271. Good luck getting an aftermarket cylinder for one. They just don't exist. If you need a cylinder you will end up coughing up the $$ for an OEM cylinder unless you can find something used.
What size nuts are those intake bolts? I cant seem to find a socket to fit 8mm seems right but wont fit in the holes. I think stihl has a special tool?
@@mikedebear I've got a radiator brazen torch I use . Little torch for repairing radiators and I just use brass brazen rods with flux already on the rod .
Looking for advice: I picked up a used 271 and had no spark, got things cleaned up and now I have spark. Saw still won't run, looked into cylinder and piston is burned with scaring on wall.....can the cylinder be honed? Or just start with new?
@@EdyCarrillo-f9f If the cylinder wall is scarred that's usually from lack of oil in the fuel. If I'm not mistaken that same oil vapor helps lube the other moving parts in the crankcase. You could be looking at more than just a piston/rings/cylinder. The replacement parts for something like can sometimes cost just as much as a new saw unfortunately. Good luck!
The conduit has a coating that has to be ground off and cherry red for the silver solder and it not the solder you get from the hardware store for copper
recent dealings with Stihl tech support indicates they don't want people to have a quality product at high cost either. On example; I am looking at the serial number and label, that say made in the USA, and reading the message from tech support telling me that the ms362 cm was only made in Germany. I don't know where Stihl gets these people, but the parts reference numbers he gave me were a mess also. I am DONE with Stihl.

true I am really happy with it
Man it looks good outside there now. Them guys did a bunch of work. Thank for helping hopper boys. .!!! That saw sounds nice. !!
Hello Hopper. It would be nice to see some cookie cutting before and after modifications to see the difference. Great work!
Looking good Mr Hopper. Always thinking of you and your family. Blessings brother 🙏
I’d take any saw you been tinkerin’ with. I got one of those saws, not horrible, of course not a monster like everyone loves.

Off topic but had a little dental office trauma flashbacks with that airflow mod, lol

I’d love to see more of this for 251, 271, and 291 saws.
I got another 291 build coming buddy

I'm getting ready to mod my 291 muffler and I'd love to know what size pipe was used as well. Love the content!
Lol use the 3/4 its the best for this size saw i think buddy

Lil 271 gonna be a fun runner.
I just picked up a ms271 haven't got to use it yet I'm hoping to before long
Nice job you're the best. How much charge for that amazing job boss
porting sounds good. prob quicker than stock 261 now

You mentioned that you soldered the pipe into the muffler- pardon the stupid question but doesn't the solder melt at exhaust temperatures?
Hey buddy no i use saftey silv 45 its the silver solder for soldering carbide to mild steele and things like that it has to be cherry red to melt
@@bellhoppersaws That makes a bunch of sense, I'll start practicing with it then 👍

Most guys won't do clamshell saws.i see u do. Can u do a ms390& how much is the cost.
Just curious what something like this would cost on that ms271?
Hey Hopper is it raining there yet?
I need the same done to mine. Where do i need to send the saw?

Hello hopper
Hey fella
What type of tubing do you use in the ported muffler, and what soldering method?
Mostly 3/4 steel tube and saftysilv 45 silver solder buddy
Could I use 3/4" thin-wall electrical conduit, and what temperature would I need to achieve a good solder joint?
@@bellhoppersaws
The conduit has a coating that has to be ground off and cherry red for the silver solder and it not the solder you get from the hardware store for copper
What about 3/4" stainless steel?
@@bellhoppersaws
Can you do the muffler mod without porting the cylinder and will it help the power?
yes
i just cut shark gills in the side and it helps. gets the heat out too.

this guy needs to adjust his camera . He blocks the work he's doing. Not really that informative.
What’s the coil gap on a 271?
Running junk.goober.
