Ahhh I remember that day I got the hang of dodging. I was hunting my first alatreon in mhp3rd, I was carted 2 times and ran out of potions, and was one hit away from losing, but somehow I started dodging all of alatreon's attacks starting from his roars to his fireballs, and then I ended up killing him and finishing the game
Sometimes when in a pinch it seems like i went into a trance and dodge all of the attack, next hunt i cant do that again. its weird

Hey, man. Just wanted to say this is some great content, and you need to keep it up. Starting in any content creation platform is very difficult, but I think you are making some great content here.
For some reason, I find the Astalos roar to be one of the easiest roars to dodge in the entire game.
I've practiced dodging roars against Rathian and Rathalos for years and I can't seem to get it right to this day, but the first time I ever hunted Astalos I dodged all but 2 of its roars, and I can frequently complete entire hunts without getting stunned by one now. Weird timing shenanigans...
Rathian's and Rathalos' roars last too long to outlast with default i-frames.
Khezu's and Najarala's, too.

Thank you for mentioning the I-frames.
My issue isn't so much finding timing, I have eyes and can see that the monster is, in fact, about to roar. I just have no clue when in my animation I'm actually invincible and kept dodging early as I thought the i-frames were DURING the roll, not as the hunter starts it!
instantly spammed the like button when that ending song played. (it was my favourite back in the bleach glory days)

Hey the info itself is pretty handy in practicality. It's definitely an actual skill a player can apply to survive if your not running adept. Thx for the tidbit mang.
Very very helpful. As a Evasion +1 freek, this is pretty nice to know. I also had a theory that the hunter had evasion built in. And this video just proves it! Nice video.
For those who play TTRPG Roars, Tremors and Flash attacks behave like area affect attacks. The things you take out a tape measure or template to figure out where the attack affects. Imagine the attack template only being on the map for a temporary time before being removed from the map... sometimes expanding out bigger for the attack duration before disappearing... but yeah.
You can literally walk just outside the area of effect for Roars and Flash--and figure out where the border for them is... and watch the screen filter based upon the hit box to figure out how much area the effect takes up. Which when you've seen that--dodging sound, light and shaking just kind of makes sense.
I found the hint with the dust/shockwave effect during tremor attacks helpful, I honestly never really noticed that and tried to evade while the foot came down (during a Jho's stomps). Thanks!

I do this accidentally all the time. I thought it was some sort of glitch but this video really helped!
Moving away from adept as I pick up charge blade. This is some good info. Great for solo runs. And you using those extra slots for other useful skills.
Very helpful video. Where would you recommend practicing dodging roars? Since monsters don't roar very frequently.

Cody Guerrero I think a decent one to start is the 5star hub quest for highrank Rathian. She spawns in the area right next to the base so just bring a farcaster to help you get to her quick. You can practice with her initial roar and she also enrages really easily so you can try dodging her second roar as well. Once you are feeling more confident, you can test yourself with Deviljho, as he roars and causes tremor so you can practice both, and he does both quite often too.

Actually I would recommend using the Gore Magala to train roar dodging, since he's kinda known to roar quite often, once he "sees" you, wehn he goes in rage mode, when his wings turn blue, when he's about to go in frenzy and when he goes into frenzy aswell.
Practice on Yian Garuga or Tigrex, but Yian Garuga is the better choice because it roars MUCH more frequently.
go in quest with sns . and start guarding for the roars. when your character gets the knock back , you know the roar hits. so watch closely as u guard and see by when the roar will happen so you can start timing ur dodges. (sns for quicker movement,any weapon with shield can be used to practice

Wow, those God-like rolls! This really helps because I mainly use Adept, but I want to start using Guild or Striker since closest to MH3/4U. Maybe you could explain Aerial leap dodge since it's just as good for dodging roars and tremors if you time it, and even dodge a large range of moves.

Really good information and I'll definitely find it useful when I'm out hunting, but you should look into going more by a script to better the structure of the video. I get that you had a basic structure laid out, but I still felt that it was a little jumbled at times. Doing several takes and editing them together could be another way to up the quality :)

This works well without Adept or Evasion +1. It requires Skill and timing.

thanks man... i know this so old... but recently i tried to play it again, i hope you answer it, for brachydios, did you have any difficulties while doing it? I really don't understand with this dude, for a small roar, it's too difficult, in more than 100 roars I can only dodge it twice, even with E+2...
I've never been too good at dodging roars or tremors, but I do have a great way to avoid them.
I mainly use charge blade, so all I do is morph slash as it happens. Not only do I block it, but it immediately puts me in position to start hacking away.
Thank you for this, it helped me tremendously. Can you also create different dodges using weapons? Like for the Dual blades while in demon mode, or using Switch axe and Lance dodges. Does this have larger frames comparing the normal roll? I've been seeing side dodges evade big attacks without any evasion skills.

But you forgot to mention Kushala and Teostra roars which are undodgeable (even with eva3)
Also although it's not in this game Diablos roar cannot be dodged either. In FU it was so long you would get stunned even if you superman jumped lol

correct me if i may be wrong but i think it should be noted that there some monsters have more than 6 frames of roar stun aside from aka & uka. i.e. khezu, gammoth, diablos & etc.. Those monsters would require high grade imho.

Can this be achieved from siege mode when you are using HBG? So far I use Adept Style with the HBG to safely escape when being targeted by monsters, I rather use Striker or Guild Style but because of the unsafe state, it is Siege Mode. I was wondering if you can achieve this while in it.

I have never been able to roll Teostra's roar. Rolled fireballs, lasers, tails, zamtrios drill, but never teo
how come that thhis guy doesnt have 100000subs?...
Every single time I try, I roll through them but get affected by them anyway. And since you have to do the full animation regardless, I get punished for it since the monster is done roaring by the time I recover. So dodging actually puts me in an even worse position than noobing out and doing nothing.
Same with a lot of attacks. I dodge them using the s, but then still get hit by some mysterious polygon sticking out of the back of their hitbox, putting me in even more danger than if I tanked it like a scrub.

Also Uragaan does a roar and a tremor right after, so if you don't have a resistance to one of them will it be impossible?
Hassan Shaikh the chin stomps after the roar are completely harmless. its the ones where he does it at will thats dangerous.

Ya, I got the mounting confused, when you mount that's what happens and since his mount roar is the same as his normal roar I sorta got confused, how about Yian Garuga, when enraged he gives wind pressure and roar's at the same time?

I have a question. Someone know exactly how many FPS MHGen runs? Someone say it runs at 60 FPS on new nintendo 3DS but I don't really believe them..
MH4U may have mislead them into believing it did. My sources and my eyes tell me it's locked at 30. No benefits from N3DS, unfortunately.
