I'm afraid I have to disagree. I understand your point, and agree with it, but the reason is, in my opinion, different. And the reason was - We were much more optimistic about the future of Apex back then. "It's only season 2, and it's so good! I wonder how awesome it will get in next season!" came back to "Oh. I did not play for 5 seasons, and I can do everything the same as during season 2". We lost our hope for the game and finally saw that balance was never an issue. Now that we all got better, I am sure that old Pathfinder Q or wraiths q would not be so annoying - and definitely more fun. IDK, but the real problem is our hope for a better future.
Honestly as someone who has played since the first week of launch, I completely disagree. Having actual rewards to play for with the variety of legends/guns is great and the ltms that have been added are a nice change of pace even if they are redundant. It used to be trio pubs and that was it with a max level of 100. I think you forget how 90% of the lobby died within 3 minutes at skull town and how the wingman dominated the game. I enjoyed Apex for a long while. Something changed over covid or after covid where I started to lose a lot more. I don't know if they changed the skill based match making or if more people had the time to practice and become movement gods. Maybe it was controller aim assist or something else. But my k/d and win rate drastically dropped. For example, for fun I would often try running only pistols. A wing man and an RE or p2020 and it would be fine and fun. However the last few seasons I tried to do this again and found it much much harder. The time to kill was just drastically shortened or something.
I grew up on Olympus and World Edge so without them I rather not play at all and that's also the exact reason I took a 6 months vacation from apex because of the those 2 map were not in the first rank phase of the season.
@paynts I was a new comer back then so I wouldn't jump in there in the first place. I learn all the basic in world edge and olympus. Not until recently that I prefer jump in hot zone in casual for warming up.
Season 2 an 3 would bore me to death for it being to easy and me being able to literally accomplish everything..Season 2 = Easy..playable..boring..Season 17 = Hard but fun..what makes it boring now is constantly dying
Yes and no. Been thinking why I am having less fun lately. There have obviously been good balance changes, QoL changes etc etc, BUT lately I definitely feel their need to constantly push out new legends has changed the game for the worse. There is way too much non-gun damage and audio/visual spam flying around now. In squad v squad fight its still ok, but get multiple squads involved like in a hot drop and its bordering on ridiculous. So many area of denial abilities via damage and/or blocking. I feel they are trying to close the gap between higher skilled players and more casual players by restricting and slowing movement and dealing dmg with AoE abilities. It's pushing the game towards sniping, hand holding, camping, ratting, instead of the free flowing game most people fell in love with. Excessive amount of tacticals that do damage or impeded your ability to deal damage. The balance that was there with the first say 9 legends isn't there anymore. As an older gamer who is no where near the vicinity of movement gods, I'd rather die to someone stunting on me with ridiculous mechanical movement and aim (think stormen, leamon, blinkzrr, faide etc) that took practice and skill than "oh haha now your gun cant shoot" or "here have a knucklecluster and the 15 nades I picked up while you're healing". And that is where this game is heading, closing the skill gap via abilities.
I liked the older state of the game when nobody knew about movement exploits. Hopefully Respawn makes another Titanfall game for the people that crutch/simp the movement exploits. I also miss Lifelines shield drone; its a shame respawn didnt just make the shield breakable or gave it a health pull rather than outright remove it.

I still enjoy the game relatively the same but season 9 was def prime apex. So many new features that I was asking for are finally in the game such as mixtape, more events, damage tracker, better legend classes etc. the biggest problems that persist are matchmaking and ranked
Definitely feel like this video is more a biased take then objective, there’s nothing wrong with that and considering it’s your video and opinion it’s fine. But what I have an issue with is that you’re comparing one of the first seasons where most people were ass, vs the lastest season which has 4 years of experience while labeling them “cringe” or sweaty. I’ll give you that maybe the weapons were better just because it wasn’t as campy, but no way you can say that the legends were better then, back then you literally always had a wraith and path finder with thre infinite zip line jump, with the third being either gibby or wattson. Mirage and octane were garbage with their ults doing nothing, and while yes now we have valk and seer running the meta, you still will see other comps such has loba, rampart, gibby, bangalore, and wraith in pro league consistently. With map pools, is kings canyon great? Yes, but we aren’t ranking the map, we are ranking the pool so by default the season with more maps would win, especially considering that both kings canyon and worlds edge are in this season. And my last point is the controller argument. This one seemed personal but do you think controller players want to see a mouse and keyboard player flick on them all the time either? Your point for season 2 being better just because of controller not being as prevalent can also work against you as their was less mouse and keyboard players then as well
Season 8 was my favorite, probably because that was when I was getting into the game and the matchmaking didn't punish me so hard, and because I had an actual team to play with consistently.
I started playing the game in demo, and quit after revenant trailer dropped. Came back in season 17. I am still figuring out everything that changed. The new legends feel really out of place, by that I am referring to seer, catalyst, valkyrie, rampart specifically(this trend started with crypto though). Something feels really strange about their kits and overall gameplay. Also, the game was much less stressful and tryhardy back then, now I see people with level 400 flying around and destroying every new player that comes out of the new orientation matches, which I got to see first hand after I lost my email. But I do think orientation matches are a nice way to introduce the player to the game. Apex has had a lot of new changes, some good, some bad(why kill lifeline revive shield:(), but people overrate the early seasons A LOT.
the biggest problem i have right now with apex is that it feels like there is nothing to really do or grind for, there aren't any fun LTMS, ranked is a joke, the battle pass is something to cry about and when i do get exited about something (the weapon mastery) they don't even provide special skins for each weapon u get just another legendary like wow great. its that i'm having fun with friends otherwise i would have quit this game long ago
I think I'd be cool if he made a video or a short, about how giving a Marvin an arm gives insane loot. I fell like it's forgotten features, yet still cool.
Hard disagree, season 2 and 3 were my favourite seasons content wise but after all the iterative changes the state of the game is just so far ahead of what it was in the early days
It was so much fun on Xbox when it first came out. I remember getting 5-10 kills a match and relaxing and having fun with friends. I recently tried to play the game with friends so I started my PC journey and at level 6 I was killed by master/pred level players that kill your squad in 5 seconds. Not sure but this isn’t apex I remember.
What? Less maps is better? How bad can those post-launch maps actually be if you think less maps, in any game, is better? You don't even explain your point. You literally just say 'old map good, new maps bad,'. The latest COD has a pretty shitty map pool too, but absolutely no one is screaming give us less maps in that game.
Ottr, love your vids man, but the ‘ 3 stacking ‘ & ‘ controller bits ‘ were very hard to sit thru. The game is intended to be team oriented. Legends are designed for their complementary effect in a team. Who cares if 3 friends party up and play the team oriented game as such and try to win? It’s why I can’t watch faide. He chooses to solo que and cries at ‘ 3 stacking ‘ omg it’s so ‘ cringe ‘ ok?? Lol. Segwaying in to the controller aspect. You can aim with your actual entire arm on M&K .. the casual player uses a controller. Check how many players at the highest level are M&K comparatively so.. in any competitive scene in any game. It isn’t even close. M&K dominates because of a much higher ceiling. The average player won’t be as good on m&k as they would the sticks, but you’re essentially aiming with 2 plastic clits man. Controller is higher floor, but lower ceiling. Using aim assist as a scapegoat to dying is so unbearable to listen to.
Which is false because in the current state of Apex most high level players are on controller. AA is that strong in its effective range of mid-close range that it triumphs the control a person has with their whole arm which takes a fair bit of time to actually develop if you aren't hard grinding aim trainers to try to build up that muscle memory, and even then that human element of raw input can't match the consistency afforded to a player because of AA. You really just have to experience what it feels like as a raw input user to die to something that just feels so unnatural like rotational aim assist. Now I understand that there is a need for controllers to have some sort of assistance to compete against MnK players, but where AA is currently it just feels over tuned. Like you have to admit that there is a problem when Aim Assist is reacting to a players strafe with 0ms of delay compared to the average human reaction time of 200ms.
Lmao in apex there is way less MnK players than roller players even in comp, all the MnK players are switching to roller at this point because they realize AA isn't being nerfed any time soon because all the casuals who believe that MnK is better will complain that they need their literal aimbot to compete against the input that really only has tap strafing, which is rather easy to counter of you have decent enough aim and prediction skills
The issue is that live service games get old, the older the game, the more players think the game was better on release, mostly because it was fresh. I never played old old apex, i played since like season 10 but ik how it feels for a live service game to get old since i played league back in 2016 to like 2021 or so and i played warframe since 2014 and i still play it
the core gamplay can carry the game for me just because its that good. rn the gameplay feels better than it was back then so I would probably prefer it now than back then. The only thing that makes this game is annoying to play is not having a solo mode of any kind. Im fine with the little ltms that they actually produce but not having a solos mode is more annoying
only thing i trully miss about old times is not having controller players on pc, it felt like i was fighting actual people, some things i miss like paths grapple, op pk and hammerpoint mozam but the game is much better now
Like the video said there were a few controller players on pc back in the day, but the majority were on MnK. Covid I think lead us to see a raise in controller players. Around that time more and more console players were switching to PC and rather than taking the time necessary to learn MnK they just continued to use controller, which lead to more previous MnK players to see how busted AA was and 1 of 2 things happened: 1. They would make the switch to controller, or 2. They would just outright leave the game.
All i can say is, as Apex was my first competetive shooter since CSS, i wish i had my skillset of today, then. I would drop a 20b 4k on any legend i guess.
Also i feel season 7 was the best season, a broken Horizon is peak Apex. I was able to get 700kills on her within 3 weeks on 60fps and a lot of lag, ahh the good days.
I think the maps have suffered greatly. Kings Canyon seems shelved half the time and all it's open spaces are gone. World Edge lost it's trains which were so fun...
I have only really played on and off since launch. Mostly on ps4 so when I switched to pc I was annoyed I had to start over. But my only real disagreement here is that I think valkyrie is super fun to play as. I don't think she's super good like she was and a must pick. But her passive is so fun and I switched from being loba main to Valk because I just like gliding around the map and being a hold w champ lol
An extremely boring season to play in my opinion I've only been playing since season 14 and fell in love with apex right away, even though I thought back then that it was more about placement than anything else But the rank right now doesn't reward good gameplay at all, it's all about your placement I've never been that bad in gameplay technically in a season and still totally undeserved in a rank that high, but it's all about your placement in the round
Ik this is gonna sound like I’m looking for comments.. but guys and gals reply underneath what u would love to see improved or changed in Apex. I rlly like hearing ppls opinions I might even take some and put on the apex forum😁 Also great video as usual Ottr these are great keep up the hustle👊🏾🖤.
I would love more movement, or just fun charecters in general, it's just my opinion but there are alot of legends who are technically strong but just unfun to play, especially as someone who came from titanfall it feels like there's not enough fun legends I can play beyond a few of the skirmishers
As someone who's from the first three seasons, quality of life is definitely the biggest improvement, primarily because the older seasons were a lot limited, but still a great improvement
Not sure if it was better. The player base was horrible. Day 1 ppl didn't know how to break doors. We didn't know how to wall jump or even shield swap. As time moved on the player base has gotten better and I don't mind the skill gap. The game isn't nearly as hard as fortnite comp or even high elo halo. The sweat spot is just right in a sense and with the new rank changes ranked doesn't matter. Running it down mid till my clan kicks me there isn't a better time to get really sweaty at the game than now.
Im pretty sure the digi on lstar came in season 3. I remember it having iron sights then, and when the digi was added to it, me and my friends thought it was weird for an lmg to have a digi
A view through rose tinted glasses. Such a bad video all round and just seems very hate worthy because apex season 17 isn't the best and this is just another way to bash it. Very poor video.

Ottr on his way to make mediocre takes be like
As Lifeline main, yes old Lifeline was better.
Okay, it's weird how is it even possible that every time I think about something related to Apex or watch videos about it, the next day Ottr uploads a video about EXACTLY THIS SUBJECT It's been happening for the 6th time, it's weird like a glitch in the matrix or smth
I remember me actually having fun in s7 and s8 due to less sweat globs and cheaters I found in my lobby. I would like to go back to those days.
Not until recently that I prefer jump in hot zone in casual for warming up.
i played base game played till Olympus but they kept nerfing castine it was off andon till i finally quite
Season 2 an 3 would bore me to death for it being to easy and me being able to literally accomplish everything..Season 2 = Easy..playable..boring..Season 17 = Hard but fun..what makes it boring now is constantly dying
Definitely enjoyed the first few sessions a lot more then now.
I also miss Lifelines shield drone; its a shame respawn didnt just make the shield breakable or gave it a health pull rather than outright remove it.
it was a good thing they remove it is a pain since s0
They aren’t “exploits” it’s movement TECH
@@is_urban1425 I disagree, especially when that "TECH" requires having to bind keys to unlock/enable the movement.
@@auronx if it’s possible to do with stuff that available in game and doesn’t need 3rd party soft ( excluding configs as EA said it’s fine) it’s not exploring
@@auronx just because the devs dont think the controls through all the way has nothing to do with what they programmed the game to do 😂😂 if they didnt want it they would remove it just like with bhopping and healing if it truly is something they didnt want it would be gone by now just get over your self and get better 😂😂
I still enjoy the game relatively the same but season 9 was def prime apex. So many new features that I was asking for are finally in the game such as mixtape, more events, damage tracker, better legend classes etc. the biggest problems that persist are matchmaking and ranked
mixtap and new legend classes was last season lol but I agree season 7-9 was good until seer ruined the meta
@@samlikeshams 1-3 were good too
Definitely feel like this video is more a biased take then objective, there’s nothing wrong with that and considering it’s your video and opinion it’s fine.
As someone thats played since launch, peak Apex for me has to be Season 7
6:47 people actually used to miss. i can't believe human error was a thing.
To the editor: the joke about Wattson leading the "charge" its a play on words. Charge=electricity, which is wattsons theme.
How does season 2 win for maps?! There was just 1. Yes skull town was cool, but come on… 😂
literally. ottr needs to be fr with himself this whole video is nostalgia based
Idk man...World Edge was (still is) a bad map and still wins lmao. What an underwhelming video
The latest COD has a pretty shitty map pool too, but absolutely no one is screaming give us less maps in that game.
i do the base maps though
bro chose 1 map over 4 others. bias opinio
Note for the editor: when he said wattson led the charge, her release was called battle charge.
The issue is that live service games get old, the older the game, the more players think the game was better on release, mostly because it was fresh. I never played old old apex, i played since like season 10 but ik how it feels for a live service game to get old since i played league back in 2016 to like 2021 or so and i played warframe since 2014 and i still play it
the first 3 seasons were the best times for me, with season 3 eeeeeeeasily being the best season imo
Hey, ottr, didn't you already release a video like this a day ago?
Yeah
@@tolythetrain wrong title sorry
My only issue is with ranked…the only thing I want from them is my full auto prowler back…
On an unrelated note, am I the only one that remembers how tritanopia look back then
the core gamplay can carry the game for me just because its that good. rn the gameplay feels better than it was back then so I would probably prefer it now than back then. The only thing that makes this game is annoying to play is not having a solo mode of any kind. Im fine with the little ltms that they actually produce but not having a solos mode is more annoying
If you complain about controller with your better movement just use it. Smh 🤦
Plus moving while looting
Yeah it was simpler
only thing i trully miss about old times is not having controller players on pc, it felt like i was fighting actual people, some things i miss like paths grapple, op pk and hammerpoint mozam but the game is much better now
Like the video said there were a few controller players on pc back in the day, but the majority were on MnK.
@@WubzZz- also around that point the meta started to shift to a SMG meta where controller is broken af
This guy doesnt know how to compare
Definitely not your finest work…all nostalgia no objectivity
3000 hours in and im done . not even the same game i put 3k hours in, this season was my last hope for the game
Bro I challenge you to not mention controller players in your next video
Impossible
All i can say is, as Apex was my first competetive shooter since CSS, i wish i had my skillset of today, then. I would drop a 20b 4k on any legend i guess.
Also i feel season 7 was the best season, a broken Horizon is peak Apex. I was able to get 700kills on her within 3 weeks on 60fps and a lot of lag, ahh the good days.
if one thing we truly miss from launch. is the game was not sweaty.
terribly bias and was hoping you were going to be logical.
I think the maps have suffered greatly. Kings Canyon seems shelved half the time and all it's open spaces are gone. World Edge lost it's trains which were so fun...
yeah i missed base for those 2
I love everything about Apex except the rank system this season
Capitol City - the best ever Poi that only lasted one season...
Season 3 was golden age of apex
I have only really played on and off since launch. Mostly on ps4 so when I switched to pc I was annoyed I had to start over. But my only real disagreement here is that I think valkyrie is super fun to play as. I don't think she's super good like she was and a must pick. But her passive is so fun and I switched from being loba main to Valk because I just like gliding around the map and being a hold w champ lol
Titanfall 3 > s1
I just know I could actually PLAY the game until 2022, when they decided to mess old gen indirectly
Imagine if Apex Legends was a free-to-play mobile game 💀
im at the part where he asks if old apex was better and i have one simple answer. yes. arenas existed.
Been here since season 2 and season 6 was my favorite
Ik this is gonna sound like I’m looking for comments.. but guys and gals reply underneath what u would love to see improved or changed in Apex. I rlly like hearing ppls opinions I might even take some and put on the apex forum😁 Also great video as usual Ottr these are great keep up the hustle👊🏾🖤.
I'd love to see audio improvements, otherwise respawn has already done a phenomenal job of saving their game with season 16-17
I would love more movement, or just fun charecters in general, it's just my opinion but there are alot of legends who are technically strong but just unfun to play, especially as someone who came from titanfall it feels like there's not enough fun legends I can play beyond a few of the skirmishers
solos
As someone who's from the first three seasons, quality of life is definitely the biggest improvement, primarily because the older seasons were a lot limited, but still a great improvement
Imo s3 was peak I loved that season so much everything was perfect
Redundant, reductive, and pointless video
Apex is definitely better but devs never release any patch notes for legends, it is pathetic.
You might be a little jaded bro
Why is it that every time respawn tries to improve the ranking system they just make it even worse than it was before?😂
Why did I see the slo mo guys at 1:11
I think if you removed every legend from the game except pathfinder wraith and Wattson most players would actually be happy.
Season 2 WAS HELLA PEAK
Season 7 was the best season. If not, season 3 is. Season 2 is really good though
Honestly. Season 2 had Season 2 in it and Season 17 just doesn't have Season 2 in it. So Season 2 gets another point right there.
Bias af
Yes, unti the playercount rised a lot forcing the game to evolve.
once they change the armor bullshit i left the game
It was easier but the game has only ever gotten better, minus seer & s17 ranked
What?! Apex was better before they started listening to pros on how to balance their game? Impossible.
Omg the bloodhound meta was the worst meta in apex
now its just "Aim assist op (Which is true), full stack, play camping, no content, just cashgrab
A view through rose tinted glasses. Such a bad video all round and just seems very hate worthy because apex season 17 isn't the best and this is just another way to bash it. Very poor video.
Honestly it just kinda feels like you don't like apex anymore lol
