Back when the original first came out, I had a friend who refused to play the game when the lights shut off at night. He didn’t get very far until he just settled on hanging around the few areas that stayed lit up. Like the grocery store, warehouse, the hardware store where you fight Cliff, and most obviously, the security room. I or another friend always had to beat Adam the clown for him because he was afraid of clowns too, but he needed the small chainsaws because he sucked at the game to boot.

Dead Rising is my favourite game of all time, I'm still playing the original. Got 322 hour clocked in on it on my PS5. I still struggle with stage 2 of the Kent (journalist) boss fight where you've got to take a photo of his pose. Greatest game ever made in my opinion.
I think the upgraded visuals tarnish the 2006 mall aesthetic that brings me so much nostalgia joy. This remaster looks oversaturated and sometimes undersaturated, the lighting is awkward and unpleasant. Removing erotica, adding voice's to characters and that yellow paint all bother me (as well as ofher changes). I dislike when IP's/art are altered to the point of the original losing it's charm. As a huge fan of the first 2 titles, I'm extremely tempted to drop the money on this (especially for the new costumes and outfits) but $60 seens outlandish for what we are getting.
the game looks almost the same except better graphics and way easier. Might as well just play the old one. I figured they'd add a lot more but seems it's just a worse version of the same game.
As an original Dead Rising player, I can see why they made some of the changes. Many players at the time complained about the strictness of the timer, for instance (I enjoyed it), and making that a bit easier is a good thing. If the survivor AI is better, that's a true game changer--everyone, and I mean everyone at the time, hated how dumb the surviors were. I would say to new players not to be put off by the timer, because it moves the gameplay forward. Otherwise, you'd get bored and not finish the game.
@@zonedout3390 I hate timers like that in games too, I want to enjoy at my own pace. That's why I actually enjoyed Dead Rising 4 for getting rid of it and letting me explore a nice winter open world. That being said, I still really enjoyed Dead Rising despite the timer and apparently they made it easier with this remaster. So I would advise not to let that full stop you!

That was the joy of gaming as a kid though. You never really cared too much about beating them. Like Dead Rising I just spent all day experimenting in the mall lol
@@oxsila Weirdly true. When I was younger, I spent countless hours just messing around in the mall, always eventually failing the story and just starting another save right back up without a care in the world. Now, If I was playing and somehow failed the main story and had to restart, I'd probably put the game down and never return.
To me dead rising is one of those games that nobody ever sees the same way. It’s got such a specific identity it’s been hard for capcom to capture that magic again. Personally I still think DR2: Off The Record is the best mix of old and new. But I’m very excited to play this
to think there will be a 12 year old out there that discovers this and loves it as much as i did at that age when it originally released makes me very happy
I'll never forget the week I got my 360. My friend and I stayed up for 12 hour turns, playing dead rising and Oblivion. One would sleep/eat, the other would play games. His mom called us in sick for a few days of school, it was so fun. Can't wait to re-experience one of my childhood favorites. hopefully it is still fun in this somewhat altered form.
Honestly there was no need to change lines or race on certain characters or the removal of fan service, this is a game, all the characters are fictional.
I remember playing DR1 the week it came out. Scared the hell outa me at first since I was like...11ish, but the weird quirkiness of it quickly drew me in and it ended up being the first 360 game I ever 100%. I'm disappointed that Frank's voice is different, but I'll be getting the platinum on this for sure and reliving some of those childhood memories
Dead Rising 2 is the best for me. I remember playing it seven times straight, just to beat every boss, rescue every person etc, while playing with my daughter. The combo weapons were and incredible fun addition. While I enjoyed the sequels, for me the series peaked at DR2.
@@Pearloryx I don't understand why they can't just get it from another country though. Digital is huge now and even when people buy physical they usually buy on Amazon
I hear you on the graphics, but I'm honestly nothing but pleased with it. This is an all-time favorite game of mine, and I'm just thrilled to have a modern take on it. Edit: Thinking about it, it's easily a top 3 game of all time for me. And I only ever had the chance to play when I could rent it from Hollywood Video or Blockbuster back in the day.
Yeah I was thinking on waiting for a same too, I have bought the game a few times myself as well. Capcom games often go on sale quite soon compared to other companies. Like a year or 2 and this game wikll be cheap but the cosmetic DLCs will be a bit expensive. They been doing the same since they started RE engine with RE7.
Bought the OG from the 360 store for £2 during it's closing off sale. I think I'm good with not buying the remaster, especially with some of the changes they made in regards to it's presentation.
No one is mentioning the music…did they change the music? What about the boss theme songs that played while you fought them, are they all the still there or did they change it? Legit the music in this game helped make it back in the day and I’d be devastated if they changed the music…
I can confirm all the original music is there. However, there's an option in the settings to remove copyrighted music for when you're streaming, which I imagine a lot of content creators will have on so they don't get DMCA'd. Gone Guru, Justified, and every other licensed track's all there.
I just pre ordered. I love everything Dead Rising. I think this will be fun. If not I still have the OG to play. I think what I’ve seen so far looks great! Come on September 19th!!! Also the perfect date for release since that’s when the game starts when you land at the mall. Smart choice by the team!
The OG Dead Rising really blew me away in 2016 (I missed out on the console generation in 2006), and has always been my "desert island" game pick if I could only have 1 game. I can't wait to play DRDR tomorrow.
As a purest, I hate it. I’ll stick with the 360 version. I got so used to the original, I’m gonna beat this one of course. Memorizing how to control the AI perfectly on the original took so much time to get down, I’m gonna stick with it due to my investment on it. I also hate that he looks older.
@@TamagoSarada_ Not really. If you watch the Original and this one side by side, they'll be identical at 95%. On the other hand, the Original Resident Evil 4 is vastly different from the Remake. @@WaurufExNo, this is a remaster. One youve mentioned, TLOU1 is remaster of a remaster. Falsely called remake. Everything is same except on reworked textures and few animations. And removed animations & mirrors for some reasons. Remake is Spyro, RE 2-4 and CB trilogy. Fully worked from their own version. More like a fanbase recreating in different than being like original.

I love how Gameranx reviews feel more open ended and for the consumer to decide, it feels like im talking to my friends online about video games and i thank you
Whenever you guys would mention Dead Rising in your top 10s, I would always thank you guys for showing the series some attention And now, here we are with the first Dead Rising game to release in almost a decade :D
Blood effects are worse unfortunately. In the original it was more physics based. Here every time you hit a zombie a pile of blood spawns instantly below them. And the splatter flying around just disappear in mid air...
How is the soundtrack? One of the big things for me was discovering the artist celldweller because of this game series. A good number of his songs were the soundtracks to the psycho fights
this game was a gem back in the day, i remember trying to barricade the entrance to the hardware store attempts to rid the area of zombies before the military come only for it to disappear when we leave the area, still think the game franchise is missing that aspect for a zombie survival
Damn, still no Dead Rising on the Switch, which SHOULD be able to handle it. I would love playing this on the go while taking a break at my local mall. That being said, I absolutely LOVED the original. I’d like to play it again now as a photographer where I can relate a little more with Frank.
Why are you asking a question that has been answered for a decade already? Answer: It's because it's cheaper to remaster or remake a game and it has a established playerbase and it's been proven it sells. Data doesn't lie, a new IP is a gamble and too costly for a guarenteed return investment.
@@zonedout3390People already got tired of remastering games. Its like zombie games trend that died years ago. Many zombie games being popular as a trend since COD WW1 then died like 7-9 years ago.

There's nothing this game offers that Off The Record doesn't already have. And as a game from 2011, you don't have to worry about censorship or topics that aren't for "modern" times.
I'm gunna regret asking this from someone that uses "modern" like that... But what was censored here? If you reply "There was one line that wasn't at all pivotal to the story or tone that was possibly offensive that was CENSORED, and that ruined the entire game for me!" then I'm going to have regretted asking.

@@seventeenseventythirteen7465 minor shit that most people don't care about. The real issue is that the game is clearly way easier. To me, the first one wasn't exactly the toughest game, but it wasn't a walk in the park either (unless you know how to use the mini chainsaws, books, and blenders to cheese everything, but very few new players would figure that out on their own). Part of the fun for me was that you'd mostly likely fail a lot at first, esp. in the early game. An easy Dead Rising doesn't seem worth playing. And aside from better graphics, seems like fans won't get much out of this.
I got into Dead-rising fairly recently in like 2021 so I’ve got the original for PS4 and Off the Record to hold out until this deluxe remaster is down to £10-15 someday 👍
I loved the first game ans played the hell out of it when it came out amd the following years. I am excited that now in my 30s with a family I have a nice updated version to look forward to and play. The more casual gameplay is right up my ally with less time to play and master games these days. Perfect for some nostalgic fun
Why pay more for a censored and lesser version when you can play the first remaster ? You can even see the comparisons side by side they didn't got right even the fire physics.
I don't think it does. DR1 needed the quality of life improvements like survivor AI, dodge rolling, and moving while aiming. DR2 already has these, it's perfect as is
I liked this game when it came out, I was just a kid and lacked the patience and attention span to complete this game. Maybe now I'll try and get back into it
I got an Xbox 360 and dead rising for Christmas 2006 and I player like crazy really enjoyed it I don’t remember the time limit mattering feel like the game progressed as went through
Way less zombies, changes to beloved characters, iconic music and dialogue changes, muddy textures…and they think people will buy this for $60?! Gaming 2024 is crazy.
The time limit kinda stressed me out, that’s why I’ve always been a fan of the DLC version of DR2, Hopefully that game gets the same treatment at some point. Hopefully this one comes to gamepass at some point.
I'll wait for the modders to at least swap the voices with the OG voices. I can't imagine how difficult it would be for them to revert Larry back to Chinese.
I believe he is actually Taiwanese, "Chiang" is a common last name for Taiwanese people . He got erased because China does not see Taiwan as a country so they could sell it in China.
Honestly I always felt that it was weird. You’re supposed to be a protag but the game rewards you for upskirting jesse? It’s straight up required for the principle Ken story. Weird. With the exception of Cheryl, who you still do the “sexy photo” mission with, it’s just not a category anymore.
I really tried to like the 1st game. However, their were many missions where you had to rescue people and have them follow you. The problem was that the AI was horrible and the NPC's would just wander off. It was incredibly frustrating.
regardless of how the remaster looks, the one thing to remember is that the original game is still available. I think this is just Capcom wanting to have a fresher looking version of the game out there, but the fact that they still have the original game on sale for get this $10 is a good thing.
@@natecartwright2319 The blood physics-they look terrible compared to the original. They completely ruined the satisfying effect of blood splattering on the floor
Love your videos and the channel, but I feel like it's a disservice not mentioning how 1) To get the original Frank West appearance you have to pre-order or eventually buy the inevitable dlc 2) With photography, the 'erotica' score category was removed, taking away one of the charming and bizarre aspects of the original.
The wombo combo of absolutely butchering Frank's model whilst changing his VA (again) does so much to rip lots of the charm out of the game. I really wanna support the resurgence of this franchise but seeing the protagonist immediately mishandled feels like RE3R all over again and it's a real shame because Willamette looks amazing
I don't like what they have done with some of the characters.. And the removal of mechanics.. It's not enough to make want to play this over the original.
@@SmokinTonic Lol it wasnt "the most important category". It was hardly in the game at all. Calling it the most important category is the most permavirgin thing a person can say lmao.
I prefer this style over what they did to RE4: Just some QoL to the existing gameplay, and not completely overhauling combat mechanics. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The better survivor ai already makes this leagues better then the original which I dropped as soon as a saw how fucking brain dead the survivor ai was. It’s probably still not for me because escort missions are so tedious that I would rather scoop my eyes out with spoons, but it’s good they fixed it.
I played when it was released on 360 and finished it multiple times, I enjoyed it in spite of some issues but I think with the new controls I will enjoy this version a lot more, I’m just not paying full price for it as it is just a remastered version and doesn’t warrant the extortionate price tag at launch. A definite maybe at some point.
My First interaction with the series was the Wii version of this game, I know it isn’t the best out there, but the concept was so much fun back there ❤ love West and his adventures since then, even in MvC3 😁
I think it's mostly just Nostalgia from it being the first of its kind that people like it so much. I remember playing Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 day 1. They were both fun but the characters controls and story. I found all to be better in the second one... And the weapons and Co-op.
I remember getting the zombrex edition of DR2 when i was younger. Came in a cool metal case with a pen in medical packaging that looked like a syringe 🤣 man I miss physical games..
10:32 the pause menu looks nice but is missing the best thing that the original pause menu had. The original would continue to play any in game music so you could continue to listen to it without getting chomped to bits. The new pause menu throws that out and abruptly cuts it off with absolute silence. I despise this change with a passion and it makes all the new added options for in game mall music seem mostly pointless to me.
It is a soulless censored $50 cash grab. If you want to play Dead Rising, play the original. I know, I know, 2006, but trust me, it is the best version to experience Dead Rising in all its glory. If the remaster was like $20, sure, but it costs $50 while giving you a subpar experience. The remaster is also very, very, very, very, very easy. Like really, really, really, really easy. It is essentially like playing Minecraft on peaceful mode. One of the many charms Dead Rising has is the difficulty factor. It took me over a year to 100% this game in achievements back in the 360 days.
'The remaster is also very, very, very, very, very easy. Like really, really, really, really easy. It is essentially like playing Minecraft on peaceful mode.' So you've already played and completed this deluxe remaster?
Yup. Part of what made Dead Rising so good was the stressful feeling over it all, and the overall difficulty really added to that. They completely neutered the bosses and basically every boss can be cheesed without even trying now. I just don’t see a reason to buy this version. The A.I. improvements are nice, that’s about it. Mirrors worked 18 years ago but not now? Pathetic. For reference, I’m a huge Capcom fan and I absolutely love RE2 remake and RE4 remake, and have loved almost every single mainline RE game. I also adore DeadRising 3 and I didn’t even *hate* DeadRising 4, I just didn’t like it. So I’m not some snob who hates anything new. There are NOTICEABLY less zombies in a game that was praised for big amounts of enemies onscreen. The exact same 18 year old animations are used for all of the cutscenes despite the new character models, so the cutscenes look weird and cheap. Characters regularly have stiff facial expressions that feel more awkward than the original. The new voices feel detached from the characters despite having new character models. Some of the brand spanking new character models looking genuinely worse than the originals despite having objectively WAY more detail, many times because of the lighting. The new voices acting is worse across the board, sometimes slightly worse, other times laughably awful anime-dub tier voice acting (Kent, Brad, Brock….. basically any side character has a noticeably fake accent or voice. I can just picture the actor in the booth doing the performance, whereas in the original the characters looked and sounded like they should, even when the acting or dialogue was cheesy. Kent’s is particularly awful in the new game) So much of the charm is lost, with the colorful mall being less colorful, and the “realistic” lighting seemingly looking washed out, and making many of the characters’ hair look grey when it shouldn’t. Bosses are neutered, not just gameplay wise, making them almost a complete non-threat, but also with the censorships to their look and dialogue. Is Gone Guru even a memorable or terrifying moment anymore? No blood splatter on Frank when eliminating crowds of zombies?!?! VERY noticeable clipping of character models directly on screen in major cutscenes (example: Isabella walking out of the grocery store) The smoke in the “Frog” cutscene looks absolutely laughable. There’s probably more but that’s just off the top of my head. As a giant Deadrising fan who thought the series was basically dead I was extremely excited about this remake until I actually saw (and heard) it. Now I DON’T want them to remake DeadRising 2 because I expect it to turn out like this. Again: what is my motivation for buying this?
@secondchance6603 are we really gonna pretend like you have to play the entire game to see how much easier it is? constant autosaves + putting arrows everywhere to tell you how to do things like get up to carlito alone is already hardcore baby-ifying the game

Instead of trying to beat the game in one run.
Ya couldve sent survivors with command.
Just zoom at the place where to go and Frank would be CMON HURRY THIS WAY GO!.
Nothing better than playing games I could never beat as a kid, now as an adult lol

Deadrising was my very first xbox 360 game. This just made me so happy
Why? You've had the original for almost 19 years? Are you mentally ill?
Im going to wait until mods are out for it and get it on pc.

Dead Rising 2 had by far the best mall variety. Used to spend days and days and days just using the toys/weapons. Endless fun

For $20 it’s a deal. For 60 I’m sorry. Bought the game twice already, won’t be buying until Black Friday comes along
Smart decision 👌
It's 50$ the deluxe is 60. I still get waiting for a deal since there's so many other new things rn.
I haven’t bought the game since the 360 era, buying this new version.
From what i've gathered, the music is much of the same. Don't worry, the convict's boss theme is untouched.
Convict music is such a banger lol
The gore doesn't even look as good. The original was fine, don't think it really needed a remaster since it's already on modern consoles and PC.

And now, here we are with the first Dead Rising game to release in almost a decade :D

Why are you asking a question that has been answered for a decade already?
Answer: It's because it's cheaper to remaster or remake a game and it has a established playerbase and it's been proven it sells. Data doesn't lie, a new IP is a gamble and too costly for a guarenteed return investment.

10:32 the pause menu looks nice but is missing the best thing that the original pause menu had. The original would continue to play any in game music so you could continue to listen to it without getting chomped to bits.
It is essentially like playing Minecraft on peaceful mode.'
So you've already played and completed this deluxe remaster?
Kent’s is particularly awful in the new game)
So much of the charm is lost, with the colorful mall being less colorful, and the “realistic” lighting seemingly looking washed out, and making many of the characters’ hair look grey when it shouldn’t.
Bosses are neutered, not just gameplay wise, making them almost a complete non-threat, but also with the censorships to their look and dialogue. Is Gone Guru even a memorable or terrifying moment anymore?
No blood splatter on Frank when eliminating crowds of zombies?!?!
VERY noticeable clipping of character models directly on screen in major cutscenes (example: Isabella walking out of the grocery store)
The smoke in the “Frog” cutscene looks absolutely laughable.
