This early performance of "Summertime" was so impressive. I loved it. Her first audition on the show of "gloomy Sunday" by Billie Holiday was the one that made people's head's snap back in her direction, first catching the attention of an international audience. But her second one, another Billie Holiday song, was impossibly done with no music and all her competitors standing just behind her, showing on stage she has no nerves. She pretty much left everyone speechless. The next one I think, "Bang Bang", let everyone know she was not limited to old school jazz. She is one of the most versatile singers in the world. So many wonderful covers and originals. She's not scared of tackling complex songs from top artists.

It was written in 1934 by the legendary George Gershwin, and has been covered countless times over the last almost 90 years by some of the most famous artists. However, Angelina's endearing and dreamy version is my absolute favorite!

In my 68 years on this planet I have never encountered an eight year old child that has the vocal acumen that Angelina did at eight years of age and each consecutive year since. For me, Angelina is the most complete, accomplished and all around gifted and talented young female musical talent I’ve ever seen and heard. Her versatility is unequaled. She can sing in most genres while the vast majority of the young and talented female vocalists specialize in one genre.
Even at the age of six, Angelina demonstrated a highly developed sensitivity to how to interpret the lyrics. She also has an unusually sensitive and highly developed ear, intuition, instincts and feel.
Since you do not know this song Phil, I highly suggest you listen to the version from Ella Fitzgerald from the 1950's to fully understand what this little 8 year old just did here on live TV. At the time she won this, Angelina was the youngest winner of any "Got Talent" shows. She held up the sign 500,000 Kroner, not sure of the value in dollars at the time but it was a lot of money. From what I have gathered from commenters she donated some if not all of the winnings to children's charities. The song "Summertime" is a masterpiece and is the most covered song in history besides "Yesterday" from The Beatles. The version Angelina sang is the Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong version. I am 70 years old my grandmother died in 2001 at the age of 88 and these are the songs that she sang in night clubs. Angelina is Introducing the younger generation to old classics. This song was written in 1934 by George Gershwin. I put a spell on you was written by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins I believe it was in the 1950s.

Angelina decides for herself. When it comes to the actual training and choice of songs etc., it has always been Angelina who made all the choices and decisions. Parents and others, on the other hand, have asked her to take it a little easier sometimes. Angelina is very special and her own driving force. Ever since she was 3-4 years old! Of course, all relatives and frends, have helped and protected her. Angelina and her closest, decided early on that she would have as normal a childhood as possible. Even when she won NGT, 8 years old, many wanted to sign a contract. Everyone was dismissed! Even Disney. And this Norwegian girl sings in English! Do you know that she speaks several languages. She always has the best musicians around her. Most of the time she gets it right the first take. NGT She started at 7 and it went into age 8 before finishing.
I heard that scouts flew in on their private jets to see if they could sign her. Her family has been very involved in Angelina’s career. They are very protective of her. She did sign with Republic Records, I think at 16? She’s 17 now.

Angelina's first masterpiece. IMO. Her rapid improvement from an already great performance of 'Gloomy Sunday' followed by a pitch perfect rendition of 'I'm a Fool to Want You'' and an incredible take on 'Bang, Bang' by Sonny and Cher and performed most famously by Nancy Sinatra to this final performance was incredible. This performance was surreal almost ethereal in places. Absolutely beautiful. She won with 46% of the vote against much older contestants including fully grown adults. Just incredible start to this prodigy's career. Simply Incredible! ♥👣👸🏻🎷

Nancy Sinatra released her cover the same year Cher released her original in 1966. But I have to say the guitar in Angelina's arrangement is way rad even more gritty than Nancy's cover.
Hello, Phil! There are moments in this performance that melt my heart/soul. And you just said, "Ooohhhh" at one of them. Ella Fitzgerald is one famous performer of this song. Definitely became an old jazz standard. She won with 46% of the vote out of 10 acts. The winner is based on the last two performances and people call in to vote. Norway loves Angelina Jordan. And, of course, anyone else who comes across her magnificent voice and story. Yes, she was the youngest ever, I think. She was the only female in the top 3, and a child, at that. The other two acts, especially the guy in the red shir st, were very talented. But no one was like Angelina---truly gifted. No. I think she won it fair and square. The public had a big say in it. They were voting for the one they liked the best in each round. 46& of the vote over 10 acts was essentially a landslide. People fell in love with a young girl who could really sing and whose song choices were excellent. She was just following her heart. I suspect one thing behind her tears was the girl to whom Angelina gave the shoes. That girl said she would pray for Angelina, that her wish (to sing for the whole world to make people happy) would come true. Angelina has said she always sees that girl in her heart, and her performance each time barefoot, like a ritual of remembrance, is evidence of Angelina honoring the soul commitment. Just her voice would be enough, but Angelina Jordan's heart is also very special, and an example of what all of humanity should be. It will be interesting to see what unfolds with her Republic Records alliance. She is not just an incredible singer, but a great soul. I pray that the industry and the vagaries of life, which can sometimes be cruel and ugly upon ugly, are unable to dim her light. We must all be wishing her well in our hearts, not just that little girl to whom she gave her shoes. Sorry, I don't mean to preach. It is like so many people say, "She must be protected (as a child, even as a young adult new to experiencing the world). She was 8 years old here. The song was composed by George Gershwin, who was Jewish, for his Opera "Porgy and Bess," which featured an almost entirely African American cast. It was a big hit. This is one of the most famous songs from that opera. It was first produced in 1935! There also is at least one film of it.

The woman at 14:16 is Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, who has been a huge influence in AJ's life. Mery was a prodigy herself...an acclaimed poet and painter. Also, she's the one who introduced AJ to jazz as a very young child. She is a major inspiration for Angelina and is still very much involved with AJ's career. Mery's children are Sara (AJ's mother) and Michael (AJ's manager).

Summertime was written by George Gershwin. Angelina's performance here was heavily inspired by the recording by Louis Armstrong which is one of her idols. Her distinctive long, heavy vibrato resembles Louis Armstrong's way of singing. You could even hear her whisper a part from the original recording that was left out from the final performance due to the 2-minute format, I guess just for the sake of timing. And you are correct that all the other competitors were way older than her but not all of them were dinners (EDIT - singers. NOT dinners 🤣😂). The two other top 3 were dancers.
