Caligula's horse is awesome! Along with Haken, Opeth, Southern Empire, Riverside and Between the buried and me my absolutely favorites! oops, don't forget Karnivool. Surprisingly 3 times Australia in my list.
Make it 4. Try voyager. ❤
referring the major chords brings me to Rick Wakeman - just listen to Heart of a sunrise or Close to the edge! It's all about the emotions.
Dude totally agree with your philosophical monologue, salt was the first song I had heard from them and the transition from the verse to the chorus was the moment I knew this band was going to become one of my all times, with this song cementing itself in the pantheon of paradigm forming music in my psyche
One of the greatest Prog bands of these times, love it
Salt is my favorite CH song. The quintuplet groove is top tier, and the middle section always gets me. The chorus makes me tear up a lot too, as someone who had struggles with depression and contemplations of ending it in the past.
It’s always nice to see someone appreciate the same music I do, it’s rare in my experience. This is one of my favorite albums ever, just impeccable songwriting, creative and catchy hooks, and superb musicianship. Loved the video, you got yourself a new subscriber!
If you like this, you HAVE to listen to their other songs "Inertia and the Weapon of the Wall" and "The Cannon's Mouth" in one go (They really have to be listened to hand in hand). Really incredible stuff.
Off of this album Autumn is my favorite, and it transitions into the final track The Ascent beautifully
I love what you said about "when you think you've heard all the music..."
I went to music school and it's such a huge revelation when I find new music I couldn't imagine before.
So good to see this here, I've seen Caligula's Horse live 4 times here in Australia. They give such a an epic live experience. One of my favourite bands, forever!
Watching you appreciate Caligula's Horse mirrors my own feelings. I feel the same way about Leprous. Sophisticated really is the word, beautiful too.
Wow. I discovered this band when I heard The Tempest on Apple Music's endless play feature, and before the song was over I had downloaded their entire library. Imagine my delight when I learned that nearly every single song on this album is just as good at least as that one. I understand exactly what you mean about it sounding like classical music. I noticed that the introduction sounds a lot like a mini overture for the themes used in the rest of the piece, which really allows the transitions to flow even better in my opinion. I'm so glad I found your reaction - it's rare to find a song that changes your perspective on music, and your thoughts on it really sharpened my own feelings, which are difficult for me to fully understand. Thank you for making this video. I look forward to watching more of your videos as they are released.
Phenomenal song from a phenomenal band!
I saw you cry🤟🤟 it's so good mate.... Tears of happiness, how good is it👌👌
This is almost EXACTLY the same video I would have made. I agree with and feel everything you say here and as a musician myself I agree that it doesn’t get better than this. I’m actually going to see them soon and I may just cry all the way through. This song is particularly beautiful and I love the less dense approach here. I’m still getting to know their lyrics, which makes each song even better. I love every single thing that they put out. ❤
Just bought tix for a February show.....can't wait. If Tool and Yes had Buckethead playing guitar in the same room...that is what I hear.
Calligula's horse is definately underrated
that weird sound in the background around 21 mins always does my head in. Feels like something vibrating in my room
I stopped what I was doing and were as shocked as you were! Came to viewing this after watching some of your nightwish-reviews. Makes me curious about how you would react to the work of 'Snarky puppy'. The title 'Lingus' would be a good start. But any of their titles ....... Thanks for this one from Caligula's Horse. It got me on a new trail.
I am familiar with some SP stuff, Lingus being one I’ve heard! Incredible band!
Instant sub. Great video and synopsis of this song. Its beautiful. Wish you would do graves also
Don't know the band it became one of my favorites. High quality technic. Love it so much ❤😮
I actually know this guy (the singer) online through unrelated stuff, and haven't gotten around to listening to his music until I saw this video so thanks!
That was very good stuff - it was almost cinematic, if that makes sense - particularly in the major chords? I definitely heard lots of Muse in there (in the beginning), as well as Leprous. There are so many great Australian bands out there - have I ever mentioned that Be’lakor, my favourite band, is Australian? 😂
I don’t think you’ve mentioned them before? 🤔
🤣😂
@@JWSoundworks2😂
Just saw them live at Progpower USA and they played this song. Awesome live! One of my favorite bands.
GOOD STUFF!!! We miss you man. Hope you're doing well and be back with new reactions. Love
Great reaction and welcome back. Another great band from Australia! You know who else is from Australia?? King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard!! Their newest record is heavy as fuck and you must check out the song Dragon! It’s a lot of fun. You’ll dig it more than If Not Now Then When.
I really hope they play salt live on the 2024 tour. Salt is my favorite song on Rise Radiant
Would love to see your reaction to at least one of their new singles. Maybe Golem?
I don't understand music on a technical level at all, I barely understand the philosophical lyricism most of the time, (this song I do). I am effectively a musical idiot, and no matter how much I try to learn, I don't get it. But there is something innate in me that is drawn to these technical masterpieces, Chorse is my favourite of all time. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live 4 times in the past 18 months, and I get to bump that number up by 2 by the end of the year. Once in Adelaide, and the other in Melbourne on my birthday alongside Devin Townsend. To say I am excited is an understatement.
Instant sub. Eloquent, insightful and most of all entertaining. Great job mate! Looking forward to digging through your library. (honestly, you had me with that Patrick Bateman poster lol)
Thank you for the compliments and kind words! 🤘
@@JWSoundworks2Try Body Count song (Enter The Darkside. Enjoy 👍
Wow, really interesting band. And thanks for putting into words what I could not with your introspective intermission.
Since you were mentioning references, I get some Alan Parsons vibes, some Porcupine Tree too... but you're right, very unique.
Okay.Excuse me,but you must explain the ghostly happening on the wall..
And after the Ihshan-feel part it really has a Dream Theater (Images..) atmosphere
I'm glad to be back here! First time hearing this... Bliss!
🙌🤘🤘
I’ve loved Caligulas horse for so long and this song definitely brought it back for me when it came out- weird countings but not too jarring? HELL YEAH. Orchestral feel- like REALLY GOOD dynamics? Fuck yeah. Love the singers voice and their ability to fit with more acoustic, lower volume stuff, AND the harder shit! Even for me; who doesn’t fully like most the bands they’re “compared” to.
Only wish they would tour here (I’m in the southwest of the US)
But also this song is outstanding to me as a singer as well, I love the difficulty it brings me later in the song- sure it’s kinda showing off but not OVERLY; just mainly if you’re a singer, you try it, and for once I’m like “oh my god that sounded easier than it is”
Yes! Salt is one of my fav of their last album!
What a journey! Everything I love in music all wrapped up in one song!
@@JWSoundworks2 Yes, that part in the middle particularly gets me every time, so emotional.
The most under rated prog metal band on the planet. I’m going to 3 dates of their uk tour, starting tomorrow 😮❤
My first time hearing Caligula's Horse and immediately made a connection to Leprous. Couldn't find any references by the band on them being an influence, but to me it sounds obvious. If Leprous is not familiar to you, it should be. Norwegian progmetal(ish) band formed in 2001. Please check them out 😊
Lazy me. You have checked them out... Anyway, Salt immediately brought to my mind The Valley and Nighttime Disguise from Leprous.
It's by far their most Leprous-y song, altough the Porcupine Tree reference (the start of something beautiful) is also sweet
Totalmente de acuerdo, hay mucha calidad en un montón de bandas al rededor del mundo pero muy pocas con un toque único y original, Calígula es una de ellas. Saludos.
Very interesting.
where is the christian bale partick batement print available pls?
I bought that years ago off the UK eBay site. Probably around 2013! Not sure if it’s still available. It was printed on canvas.
17:55 coughhakencough
I would suggest the masterpiece Elysian Fields - Red Ridinghood - ua-cam.com/video/U9Uy8vhYEQ4/v-deo.html
This is one of the best songs ever written. Totally underrated.
Reksi alif ba ta donk
Alip ba ta release bohemian rpsd new version
How i agree with you..
i remember you watching alip ba ta videos.. i hope you wacth more of alip ba ta videos.. 👍
Hmm, having a hard time finding a comparison....Yes with distortion? lol
It's a very neat track but for some reason it didn't grab me at all and I'm not sure why? I feel like Sleep Token, Opeth, Katatonia and Soen have music in this vein and it seems to be a growing trend to go in this direction. Perhaps I'm numb to everything? :P
Might be a grower for you! I loved it. Maybe I was just in the right mood when I recorded this! Opeth and Katatonia are two of my all time favourite bands, and I reckon this is up there with them. Whether it stands the replay value test of time remains to be seen, though. Hopefully it does!
@@JWSoundworks2 It certainly does for me!
Please just record your analysis video to a new Aviations - Coma song video. Caligula's Horse is mind blowing, but Aviations is a pure art and awesome musicians.
Please have a listen to their new track. I absolutely hate to say this but I’m not too keen. I can’t hear any melody or any beauty in it 😢. They are one of my favourite bands. Please tell me I’m wrong?
Sry. i don't like bands like this, I find it very "artificial" (and I really like similar music...) Similar bands already exist.
👍
