Which lens would you choose?
I really need wide lens. 10-24mm would be nice. Especially because I have a cropped sensor so I have to multiply with 1.6x to get my real focal distance.
I am looking for Nikon 10-20mm af-p lens for landscape photography. But i don't know about quality of the lens and image quality. Did you recommend this?
when i had my pentax slr camera, i used to have a 500mm mirror lens , do they still make them ? i used to really like that lens .
👍
It's a good lens and I think you would really enjoy using it.
Just another great one as always!
Looking forward to seeing a video about when its time to upgrade the camera body since its the second confusing thing after getting used to the gear but can't determine what are the factors that might be considered for a correct upgrade. Especially if it was an entry-level one...
Really thank you!
Thanks for making these videos, I find your explanation clear, easy to understand and I always learn something new from you. THANKS😎
Subscribed on the back of this video. It’s the first one I’ve seen that helped me understand what focal length actually means! That simple diagram unlocked it. Thanks!
I just want to say THANK YOU! Your videos are the best ones I found. I'm a newbie and have always wanted to learn photography. Aperture, exposures, shutter speed were all foreign to me but after watching your videos--mostly at night before I went to bed, I now understand what they all mean! Thanks again!
Your videos are so well done and gave greatly improved my nighttime photography. Thank you.
Really enjoy watching the videos as you explain everything in a easy manner to understand. I now understand the differences between the lens and especially how the aperture affects the photos. Will definitely be getting the nifty fifty canon lens!
THANKS, again, for posting this video! You are truly a photo genius 💐.
Your videos are so helpful and so easy to understand! I am learning so much!

Do to the circumstances I veered away from photography. You are helping me so much I cannot tell you in words.
Thank you

Hello from Holland, I really like your videos. It helps me a lot to understand my camera and photography. I got 3 lenses now, 18-55 mm, 50mm and 70-300mm for Nikon. It's really fun use these lenses. Thank you for the videos.
Hi Paul, have just purchased a canon nifty fifty 1.8 and its the best decision i ever made. never off my camera now many thanks on the advise you gave in your video on lenses . best wishes from a UK subscriber.
Paul well done. Enjoyed watching your video. Wish to share some positive experiences I have had with the following lenses used in conjunction with my Nikon d500. Tamron 70-200 f2.8g, Tamron 45mm f1.8, and the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8.
Love your videos, please keep up the good work.

Thank you so much Bernardo, your feedback and kind words are very much appreciated.

@@photogenius Thank you for making all this knowledge freely available.
Greetings from Costa Rica
Your video is very helpful. I now understand everything I need regarding this issue. Thank you very much, and keep up the excellent work. Peace :)
Great video. I’ve been into photography a couple of years because I travel with my job. I’ve a canon 720sx compact when I’m travelling light but when I have space I take my second hand canon 760D. Again I mostly take scenery and architecture shots travelling so I bought the 24mm as it takes up no space. I I take my 55/250 the 24mm goes in my pocket. But what I discovered is it’s a great lens for the kids to play with the camera. They love it. Point and shoot.
But my wife pointed out portrait of her and the kids look a bit harsh on the 24mm and not as good as on my other 55/250 lens zoomed out to 55mm. So you convince me. I’m buying the 55 f1.8. You see them about £60 second hand and if my wife if happy with her pictures then maybe I get the pink pass to buy the 10/18 you talked about. I bought the 24mm hoping I could take architectural pictures but on the cropped sensor I often can’t get far enough back.
What would be great is if you set a challenge for the kids. Maybe under 16 to let them play on dads camera. I’m finding getting the whole family involved on a day shooting pictures really makes for a great day. I’m going to check out that monopod you mentioned too. My youngest daughter struggled with the telephoto and this might be just what she needs.
Your videos are a must for every beginner. So much learning. I got all your recommended lenses. Now I need to start learning photography. lol. Thanks for your great videos.
You are very welcome.
As usual, great and informative video 👌🏻
Awesome video. Cleared out my doubts on the lense types
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching Solomon.
Thank you so much for the content. It really helped. Perfect and simple details.
You are very welcome Sandeep, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@photogenius You are awesome!
I have the Canon 55 - 250mm IS II lens and plan to upgrade to the STM version. All the reviews I have seen for it say it is a bit sharper than the one I have. I use it on a Canon T3 / 1100D.
Great informative video about buying lenses. Excellent guidance. Thanks photo genius.
Thanks Ravi 😀
Very informative and well explained video.
Thanks soo much ! it was quite informative !
Hey , I wanted to thank you for your input. I purchased the nifty fifty and I’m so pleased with the lens! I would post a pic if I could😊
I have a standard kit lens 18-55 for Canon 450D, for good portraits your advice of nifty fifty 50 mm lens is direction I will take for future purchase. Great video as always, thank you.
Photo Genius. Paul, your channel is awesome! So much great information!
Thanks Richard, you are very kind 😀
An excellent channel!! Your videos are really detailed with lots of explanation. Could u please share your views on the Tokina 11-16 mm wide angle lens
Outstanding info, thank you. My wife has a Nikon D3200 and I a Canon T7
Very detailed very helpful. Thanks sir.
Great presentation of lenses, please share macro photography with more details
very helpful, as usual, thanks Paul
Cheers Leon - thank you very much 👍
Thank you, Paul! Very helpful video!
You are very welcome, appreciate your support and feedback.
Can you do a video on "nature aquarium" photography tips? Especially about the cameras and the best lens to use for it?
Thank you for the diagram!!
Great explanations ...many thanks 📸
No problem Ray, thanking you for watching.
Excellent primer! I happen to have chosen wisely, based on a fair amount of luck. I have all Canon lenses including the “Nifty -50”, the “Pancake”, and the 55-250mm. I am pleased with all three choices, but also find the Canon 18-55mm Kit lens to be a good "grab and go" general use lens. Carry on with the clear, concise, and well thought-out advice!
Thanks for watching Bill, sounds like you've got a great kit there.
Paul @ Photo Genius.
Canon 24mm-105mm 1:4L IS II USM, decided to splash out, I find it’s a good walk around lense, cover wide ad nearly everything in between .
This is just time as I am looking for lens but don't know what to get. Thank you for the tips. Already subscribed.
Another informative video Paul thanks, quick question being relatively new to photography is it worth me concentrating on one aspect such as landscape or macro for example as it seems most people only concentrate on one specific field of photography rather than doing all possible things?
good clear video.
New subscriber here, binge watching your videos for a couple of days and I have to thank you for them, they really are helping me decide, wish camera to buy.
Thank you so much Jose.
Thank you very much!
Hello, Paul, I was so impressed with your teaching style and clear explanations that I signed up for one of your classes (haven’t had time to start it yet). My question is, which (budget) lens would you recommend for photographing the Milky Way on a Canon Ti8? Thank you.
Very fair between Nikon and Canon users... Thanks Paul
I had the canon 50mm f1.4, but chucked it in and got the 1.8, no real difference in Image quality, I have the canon 24-70 f2.8 great lens, and the 70-200 f2.8, excellent as well, but at f2.8 the 50mm and my 35mm blow the zooms out of the water, the 300 I use for wildlife with 1.4 and 2x extenders but I did take a few shots at a wedding, not one I was shooting of course, and to be honest it was awesome, but you have to be miles away, I love your channel you make everything so easy to follow, I use canon cameras 20d to 1dx, but have a Nikon 3200 with the 70-200 f2.8 as well, bought second hand for 800 pound
I use an old Nikkor 50mm f1.4 on my FG-20, I recommend trying out film!
You've got a great channel here. Just so much great information. Curious if older nikkor f lenses fit the D3500.
Thank you!!!!
I have the Canon 70D with the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and the 50mm f1.8 STM. I recently bought the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 because I was struggling in a concert building. There wasn't much light, but it was a paid photoshoot, so I needed that extra stop of light. My next lens is going to be the Canon 85mm f1.8. I really like portrait photography and this lens gives me exactly what I want.
Thanks for the video Paul!!!
Thanks for watching Lucas. Great decision on buying a lenses with wide apertures - these are a must have for concert photography.
Thanks for watching. Paul @ Photo Genius.
Thank you for a informative video.
How come my 'smart phone's takes brighter images everytime! Want to outsmart it one day. Yes I capture more detail on my 5200.
Lots of information. I’m on a micro 4/3 but the setup is almost all the same. Thank you
Thanks for the video, new to manual photography. Helps a lot. Gilmar, Ireland
Great to hear! Thank you so much for your feedback and support.
great video as always I learn from your videos
Thank you Lee, happy to help.
Great advice! I own a Nifty Fifty, 70-200 2.8L III, and a Sigma 18-35mm!!
Right on! That's a great selection of lenses.
Hi Paul!
I was wondering if you could do a segment about what kind of computer, graphics card (if any), monitor and what specifications you recommend for photo editing. I'm a semi-pro now and would like to up my editing skills with the right equipment.
Thank you!

Another Banger of a vid mate.
Very well explained!!
Glad you liked it, appreciate the feedback.

Thank you

Another great vid. What would you recommend for group shots eg: family ‘Christmas card’ shots? Thank you. 🙏🏻
Amazing video..very useful...thank you
You are very welcome, thank you for watching.
Very informative. Thanks! 🙂
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the feedback.
I bought a Canon 500D recently but I have a 75-300 lens witch is super fun to use but not adapted to every situation. Your explainations help me a lot to understand andfind out what lens i should looking for, peace from France Paul, have a great week !
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it informative. Hoping to be in France very soon and may feature the trip on the channel. Best wishes, Paul @ Photo Genius.
@@photogenius that would be awesome !
Very good video. Extremely instructive. However, I'm very surprised that you didn't mention the Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro lens. In my opinion (and, judging by the many reviews on You Tube, in the opinion of many others) this lens is superior in terms of build quality, is extremely sharp, and incredible value at around £270 brand new. I would recommend this lens for anyone who wants to get Macro lens.
Great video, thanks.
Now a question: what you think about the Tamron lens? and another question: is there a web site that compares different brands and kinds of lenses?
thanks
Great video, just wish you included lenses for my Fuji XT4
Thanks bro
Can you please do a video, how to setup the camera to take a landscape photo with custom selected Sutter speed. ( Using ND filter phone application)
Great video. I'm on a camera course right now and we're yet to talk about the best lens for different kinds of photography. You touched upon portrait lens but you didn't elaborate on the the 80mm. Do you recommend 50mm above 80mm or is it all about the budget? Secondly, I've looked at prime lens for 50mm as l have a Sony A7,iii. Would you recommend a 1.4 over a 1.8 as an amatuer photographer or should l stick with the more commonly sold 1.8? Thank you in advance and you got yourself a new subscriber
I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you. What are your thought about Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Canon just I recently purchased.
I love taking macro or just close up subjects but being on a tight budget I went with the Nikon 40mm the biggest problem is if taking images of insects like bees on a flower the lens has to be very close to the bee and this can cause it to fly away. I have some close-up images on a stock agency site that sell very well using this lens.
What's the site called?
very helpful video helps a lot thank you shared to my facebook
Thanks for watching and sharing Ricky
Great video! I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of months now and really like them. One question about this video though: you said that if you want to get really close to the action you should get 100-400 mm lens but since even my old Sigma DG 150-500 mm f5.0-6.3 doesn’t seem to be long enough should you talk also about 150-600 mm lenses in a video like this? I’ve been trying to save money for one for some time now.
Sir you're superb teacher, your way of communication is easy to understand so I subscribing you, my son is very interested in photography so I have asked him to subscribe.
Hi Paul,,, I think its also worth mentioning,,, the differents in camera body like full frame and apsc,,, which will have a different focal length depending on which type of body you are using the lenses on.
Fair point Ray - I will put together a crop factor video in the near future.
The focal length of a lens is a physical quality of a lens like the weight or physical size! The focal length doesn't change when you detach the lens from the camera and put it in your bag. 50mm is 50mm is 50mm
The optical effect will change with different sensor sizes..
Great contents Paul. I immediately subscribed! What do you think about Canon mirrorless M50 for photography? I am a beginner and thinking to get it. the kit comes with EF M 15-45mm and I'm thinking to get the EF M 55-200mm which will be $250 less if bought at the time of buying the kit. Do you think it will be a good buy or I should just get the kit with the 15-45mm? I'm more into taking photos of nature, people, food etc. If you think about a better image quality budget camera other than the M50 I would appreciate it if you can share your recommendations.
Have a t7 and Power Shot. Learning something new
Hi, I assume that, all these lenses you have recommended here are, crop-sensor lenses?
Also which one you recommend for street photography. (I am a beginner).
This video is great, can you please do a UA-cam video for selecting an external flash for crop sensor camera.
Thank you!
Hey mate can u do a vedio about bulb mode on d3500 and also about live composite..!! Plz
New subscriber, loving your videos, thanks
Awesome! Thank you so much Sue.
My nifty fifty is Canons 1.4, superb little lens.
When I started my addiction to photography back in the19**, well a while ago I was told to date the camera marry the lens.
nice tips and tutorial my friend ...i sub
Thanks for the sub! Really appreciate the feedback and support.
Paul.
THANKS for this video and all that you do, I am just getting into photography I was taking pictures with a 13 year old point and shoot, so I took the plunge and bought a Canon SL2 with the kit lens EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Len so with this said what would you suggest for taking pictures and video at disney we are heading down there in early January. The camera store guy suggested 35mm 2.8 macro or EF 50mm F 1.8 stm, which you talked about can you help please? I forgot to say we are going to go at night to the parks and taking photos of buildings and people mainly lights video and pictures about 50/50
Thanks for your info..could you consider sony mirrorless cameras while showing examples or explanation as your videos mostly cover canon or nicon..as a sony user missing some info..Thanks
Hi Paul, love your work mate, so precise & clear for a newcomer like me but as a new viewer of your videos I noticed that you don't often mention Tamron lenses (unless I have missed a mention perhaps), is there a reason for this, have you found them to be inferior?.
I'm not being critical just curious & I realise it's just not possible to review everything.
I look forward to the next video.
Cheers from South Australia.
Thanks for the feedback George. I do not own any Tamron lenses myself, but I do see them a lot on my courses and they generally seem like great value lenses. I think Tamron (like Sigma) are a great options that are mostly cheaper than the Nikon / Canon lenses.
Thanks you sir
You are very welcome.
Hey Paul, I only recently found your channel and almost immediately subscribed! Maybe you have already done a video on this but, I’d love to know your views and opinion on Magic Lantern. Greetings from Gran Canaria.
Hi Paul I have learned soooooooooo much about my canon camera from your videos. I have a question if you could please help me. I have the canon kit camera and lens it’s the 18-55mm and it is a great lens, but I am looking at buying the 55-200mm so I can get better quality image when zoomed in and also to take shots of the moon etc so would you advise this lens?? I don’t focus on one category I just take my camera everywhere to shoot whatever it maybe I see that day?? I bought the 10-18mm wide angle but I don’t see what the difference is really, I seem to be happier with the results using the kit lens.
Very good video
And wanting to clarify, if using a crop sensor camera both the focal length and widest F Stop need to be multiplied by the crop factor in order to know the actual focal length and F Stop. Am I correct? And, the crop factor math is needed even if using a lens made for cropped sensor cameras. Am I correct? Thank you in advance for clarification by an expert and talented instructor 🙏🏼
