Thanks, Paul! Great video. I have been a Canon fan since my first FTb back in the '70s. I have gone through the F-1, A-1, three EOS Rebels (one film and two DSLRs) and now on a M50. I have always been pleased. Thanks for the answers to these questions.

Not a Canon user, but still wathed the video - because the best part of videos is there is always something to learn (brand neutral) from them.
A small tip to beginners to ICL photographers (I am one of them) - download the manual from your manufacturers website. It will be of immense help to you. People like me who are > 45 yo have a habit of reading the manuals before using any gadget (as in the old days, nothing was 'obvious'). But it has its advantages even today - I am quite sure you will find features even in your entry level camera which is not covered in any videos / tutorials on UA-cam / web which is extremely useful for you (I found quite a few for my D5600 :-) ).
And keep the pdf in your mobile / Tablet (whichever you always carry).

Hi Paul, greetings from the old country. Even though I'm not a Canon user lots of the info was useful to me too, so something of a bonus. As ever, keep up the good work, as the biggest improvement to be made to to any camera is the thing behind the viewfinder .. well it is at least for me.

Hi Paul, I have a few Canons, the one I love to use still to this day, is my1st camera Canon50d I bought 2008, just love it on this semi pro Camera body I'm told, you can use in white balance Kelvin (K), over the years I found 5000 K works for me, I used the Nifty 50 it is a beautiful lens, which I always take on holidays and family gatherings & like you say a good telephoto, which I've used on sports days, you give good advice.

All of your videos are great. I'm improving slowly but surely. All of the acronyms are hard to remember. I wish there was a chart to refer too. A problem I have is my camera (T7) hates my computer (a Chromebook). It likes my old Dell much better. Life is short and there is so much to learn. Thank you for all your help.

Since then I bought thre nifty 50 new but I just recently bought the tamron 28-75 f2.8 and the tamron 18-200 used for 100 usd for both. I was very happy to find them and I know they aren't GREAT lenses but I don't do this professionally. Thanks for the content man, you're awesome

Nice tips and so helpful. Have an even older Rebel 350D and budget is limited. Best advice so far is to go for the nifty 50 and wondering whether I should try to find the used 1.4 or 1.8 and what the difference really is. Thanks Paul!!

I know this is a very old video, but I have a question, please. FYI: 1. I have a Canon EOS T7, with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II and a EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lenses. I don't have the "nifty fifty". 2. I understand it's a beginner level camera, but I've never had a "real" camera. 3. Primary photos will be for indoor events at our non-profit, which are mostly music or speaking events (so, some but not a lot of movement) in what I would call home-level lighting (we don't have spotlights). Question: What are the best settings on this camera for this type of photography?
Finally, thank you so very much for your videos and your channel. The 426 page manual is daunting and seems to assume a certain level of prior knowledge that I don't yet possess - your videos are quickly filling that gap.

Hi Paul, a great video again.
I have a question, not necessary Canon related but in one of your photo editing videos you mentioned added vignetting to the finished photo, in many of the lens reviews I've watched they have been critical of lens vignetting, so is it just "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Interested in your thoughts Paul.
Keep up the good work mate.

    Thank you for the video.
As an enthusiast; I started photography with Canon DSLRs in 2009 and still using them happily. Don’t feel obligated to buy the “latest”. Shoot landscape, wildlife and occasional portraiture for my pleasure. I’m using 5D Classic, 5DII, 7D, 70D and 40D. A used 1D Mark IV might soon be added to my arsenal.
My lenses are EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, EF 17-40mm f/4L, EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II and EF 400mm f/5.6L. Almost regularly use Canon extenders with the 2.8 tele lenses. Don’t nourish high impression on third party glasses.
My walk-around lenses are; EF 28-135mm for FF and EF-S 18-135mm for APS-C bodies.
My question; is AF Microadjustment that badly necessary for my lenses? I haven’t done this for any of them. However, don’t notice any mention worthy deviation in properly focused images.
Felicitations for the good work. Please keep it up.

Lots of great info on a good many subjects. One note about WB: when shooting in RAW, it can be good to have the WB set in one setting. When you go to adjust several photos, you can make the one adjustment on WB correction and you don't have to worry about the WB jumping around as if it was set on auto. I always shoot RAW and jpeg, and I use a WhiBal card for perfect WB.

Glad I came across your video.
    Very informative indeed.
But I wonder if you truly can answer my doubt of a question…
I want to shoot stars using my newly bought canon 6d ii.
I have a sturdy tripod, canon 40mm f2.8 lens, a ‘’nifty fifty’’ 50mm 1.8 for portraits, a 24-70mm f2.8 L mark ii for walk abouts, a 24-105 f4 L lens also for walk abouts and finally a 70-200mm f4 L for concert shoots but my friends are saying non of these lens will give me good results with shooting stars.
So I borrowed a 11.22mm f3.5-5.6 lens but am not sure what f stop to use, iso and speed would be ideal.
I checked your videos, all informative as well, but have i missed your video on how to shoot stars?
Any advice would be more than helpful.
I used to watch your videos when I used a canon 70d three years ago.

Hi Paul .. .couple of years late with this one, but I wonder if you have an opinion about the EF adaptor and using EF lenses on an RF body? I have two lenses, a 50mm and 24-105 and am thinking of adding a third .. perhaps the zoom you mention in this video .. but as a purely leisure photographer I'm not keen to shell out hundreds of pounds for RF lenses if I can avoid it. The camera was bought as a gift, so I didn't get the option of choosing the body ... is the EF adaptor a good option for reducing lens costs or is the compatability between EF lenses and RF body not worth the cost? .. Thanks, Mike

I have just purchased a cannon rebel 7. What settings are best for northern lights and how can you manual focus in the dark

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  10 місяців тому

For the Northern lights I would suggest a shutter speed of around 5 - 10 seconds, a wide aperture (low f number) and adjust the ISO accordingly, this may mean an increase to around 1000 - 2000 depending on condition and composition. To help you manually focus in the dark try using your cameras digital zoom (works in Live View).
      Hope that helps.

Wow what a great opportunity. In terms of flexibility the 18-200mm would be a good choice because it covers such a wide focal range, however depending on how high you might be the 100-400mm might be better because you will be able to "zoom-in" more on the specific property (twice as much as the 18-200mm.
Hope that helps, enjoy the flight!
      Paul.

Would it be smarter to buy a mirrorless camera, since that's the future? That way I don't have to replace expensive lenses when I eventually switch.

Hi Paul! I have a question too about my canon Eos 2000d: I want to transfer the pictures I took there to my pc through a usb cable. The package itself did not include any usb cable, so I used one that I already had before buying the camera and it fits. The problem is that nothing shows on the screen of my computer when I connect it with the camera through the cable. What can I do?

can you use a Sigma 150-600 f/5-6.3 OS Contemporary lens on a Canon t6?

Hi Paul, I have a canon 800D which I bought as an entry level wildlife camera, along with the 18-55mm kit lens, a Tamron 75-300mm and a sigma 150-600mm . I photograph Deer , Badgers, Foxes, birds etc.
I’ve got to the stage now where I’m pretty competent but want to upgrade my camera.
I can never get a definitive answer and I just get confused. So, what camera would you recommend for me to upgrade to? I have a budget of around £1500. I want to stay on DSLR , but I’m not averse to looking at mirrorless . And I’m not so bothered about videos, but I do do them now and again, and maybe I might do more of that at some stage.
Any input would be most welcome, as you talk “normal” speak and not sales speech lol. Many thanks in advance.
    Keep up the good work.
    Jim. 👍
