FAQ: 1. Choosing a Blender version: ---1a. If you are starting a long-term project, it’s best to stick to the most recent LTS version (LTS: Long Term Support). ---1b. If you are just learning Blender, use the most recent Stable version (typically available for download on the front page of Blender.org). ---1c. The version I use in this video is 3.6 LTS. If you're using a more recent version, you will see that some things are different. I'll try to address them here. 2. The Principled BSDF node has changed. Specifically, for subsurface scatter (00:45) do the following to get similar results: ---2a. On the new Principled BSDF node, there is a Subsurface section, expand that section. ---2b. Select Random Walk (Skin) from the dropdown. ---2c. Set Weight = 1.0. ---2d. Set Scale = 0.1. 3. The UI for texture painting has slightly changed in recent versions. Specifically, the Texture Slots dropdown where we chose Single Image (01:35) has moved to the top of the workspace. ---3a. In texture paint mode, select a brush from the top left, to see its options in the tools tab.
The areas that receive more sunlight will also look slightly older as well, and becomes more pronounced as you age if you spend a good amount of time in the sun. Just look at some photos of models in their 50s-60s compared to an average 50-60 year old. You can also see this in men that are balding, the skin around their original hairline to their new hairline, is both lighter and younger looking.
For those who concerned: 1:38 for blender 4.0 and above, if in this feature you are stuck, ignore it and go to shader tab, add image texture as shown in later stage of the video and rename as same or as you like (lips mask). Now, go to texture paint, and select that you saved (lips mask) from the drop down. now you will be able to paint. I am also new to the blender and i wasted hours of my time to figure this out. Hope this comment will help new blender artists and also save their time unlike me. Cheers & Happy blending...
really simple, thank you. It was the pores that stumped me, had been experimenting for a while but I was trying to get noise to work, doesn't look as good as this.
Interesting! Thank you so much for the tips! One question though, how would I go about mixing your normals set up for the pores part if I wanted to use a custom normals map that doesn't already have them?
Please teach us how to get that "paintery" look/style on an models face. I am impressed by the style you are using on the faces. + How do we get that "red effeckt" on regions like the nose or ears, when sunlight shines throu it?
I was wondering how to do the lip edges in Texture Paint mode, my idea was use the Smear tool. But the mask + color ramp technique looks like a much better technique. How do you mask so pores do not apply to the lips?
Thank you for this tutorial but I’m stuck on a couple of thingsHow do you select just the head to put the pores and when I try texture painting the lips it doesn’t go through for some reason.
Can you show how to make photorealistic face from photo, from scratch(the default cube),so that the 3dmodel would look similar as on the photo?I want to make exact copies of people and use them in my games, please?
@@joodlejuice2128 so i started learning, but for some reason my sculpting tool only sculpts facing the y axis so when I tap number 1 and facing forward the tool Is still facing 3
Daz3d has a feature that allows you to generate faces from pictures. Another way to get more accurate results would be 3d scanning the faces. Edit: FaceGen is also an option
i thought this was an old video but it's only two weeks old. your principled bdsf looks completelly different from the one in blender, specially since it's lacking the subsurface color. which addon did you activate?
@@sinasinaie blender 4.1 is out, indeed your video is too "old" now.. The BSDF has changed but also texture paint has changed. When i connect the color from color ramp to base color from mt BSDF, everything turns black but the lips...
Depends on who you ask. I wouldn't say it's old at all, since Blender 3.6 is the latest LTS version. I and many others prefer to stick to LTS versions to avoid running into bugs, performance issues and instability.
That's a fair point, I'll consider that for future videos. However, in my experience, once you become more familiar with Blender, you will find it quite easy to follow older tutorials even if you're using a newer version. There are many great tutorials out there, it would be a shame if people avoided them just because they're based on an older version.
This is a waste of time. It kind of sucks that you don't do something as basic as state what version of Blender you are using. None of the processes you show match the versions that I have on my computer, mid 3.x to 4.1. The BDSF panel doesn't resemble the current one, and your use of constant closeups of your screen captures means there's no way to find out what you used. The I connect the lips masked area, for instance, the exact opposite of what you show happens. And, the base colour is replaced by the the input from the color ramp, so the skin tone is lost. If you want to make content that actually helps, improve your presentation: less style, more substance. Blender updates very very frequently, and this video is not current.
@@zuppiera2148 No. Entire comment focuses on useless things that can be easily noticed. He just wrote pointless changes instead of the things he should have told. Half of the information is wrong tho.
@@BobHairEnjoyer cmon man just try a lil harder and you will find everything. some things changed but u have to actually look for it. its a bit frustrating but you'll get there.

Dude you are talented. I’ve learned more from this video than any other ones.
Awesome! Thank you!
It is so weird hearing the main theme from the That Chapter youtube channel in a blender tutorial, but I'm grateful for the tutorial all the same
the lighting on that model is everything , its really amazing
Bro your presentation style is one of the best I have seen for Blender Tutorials. Makes it super easy to follow along. Please keep doing this.

Thanks very much :)
It won’t let me draw anything in the texture paint mode tho
man, i hate blender for doing this, just tweaking/changing all the buttons and UI all over the place for every version they make
Simple and great tutorial without over exaggerating and going step by step 🙏🏾
I appreciate that!

subsurface color has been removed in Blender, just uses the colour for the base color.
Use Random Walk (Skin) in the subsurface settings on the materiel tab or on the BDSF. It does the same thing, more or less.
