He had discovered Twitch after being an avid fan of World of Warcraft and watching his favorite player's streams. With Broxh_ finally deciding to stream himself carving as a part of the Makers & Crafting section on Twitch, he quickly discovered just how much people enjoyed watching him.
"Eah bro, you didn't have to. Can I give that money back?" is how the Rotorua-native first responded when viewers began 'subbing', or subscribing to his channel.

Hmm, he would've been raised collectively, not just with parents.
Māori still operate under tribal membership and collective sharing/bonding/raising of children. Like a literal tribe of cousins, blood relatives, all old people being called Nana and grandpa etc etc are nurtured together. Māori culture is collectivistic, we are raised by the people and serve the people but are encouraged to do & be better for ourselves. We do not begrudge the success of individual Māori but are immensely proud of the ones that shine as they represent us. Māori stress the old adage that it takes a village to raise a human.

I wish more people adopt that mentality of don't begrudge someone for succeeding or improving and cheer them on because soon you'll do the same.
It's just sad we're all playing the same game no reason to be upset that someone moves faster we all take steps at different speeds.

Still, I can affirm that through university psychological projects, studies on individualistic/collectivistic cultural differences done in NZ, show data that Māori culture has adopted individualism in a way that is complementary towards the collective. I.e. NZ normative society - anglo-European - is strongly influenced by egalitarian ideals championed by the Scottish and French immigrants that colonised NZ in the late 19th century, which has over time, developed a "tall poppy syndrome" - cutting the poppy that thinks too highly of themselves and/or doesn't understand that all members in a group share equitable success and are equitably special.
But Māori culture, because of its marginalised position in society, embraces every opportunity to fight against the negative stereotype of being a minority & non-normative in nz. And the best way to do that is to celebrate the success of every member who affiliates with Māori culture and people. It's a clever tactic to keep an almost extinct culture and people alive by welcoming and encouraging individuals to succeed. Early 19th-century Victorian era perceived Māori as a dying race due to colonisation, internal warfare and foreign diseases reducing the population to 40,000. But they've survived. And they don't use blood quantum to qualify group affiliation. If you can trace Māori relatives/line in your genealogy, you are māori.

I spend some much time in Broxh's stream and he is the only streamer I watch for hours on end. I usually duck in and out of streams but I sit for hours in his. Not to downplay Broxh's nature-friendliness (The dude just rocks overall), but being better than Peta isn't that hard. In fact, it's actually hard to be worse than PETA, since they are literally infamous for euthanizing healthy animals in large amounts.
