Rest in Peace Russell Malone. I was just listening to your music last week with a buddy and saying what a treasure you were. I am heart broken. Your music will live on. You will greatly missed.
Much love and respect. This one hits hard because Russell was born the same year as me and we were both guitarists. Makes me realize that tomorrow is not promised to any of us. So make the best of your life. R.I. P. Mr Malone. I salute you Sir.
I got to know Russell over many years of seeing, hearing and interviewing him at the Montreal jazz festival. He was so warm, humorous, positive and thoughtful; it was always a groove to be in Russell’s company! Condolences to Marike, Darius and Marla. The world is a sadder place now.
Thank you,Bret. Beautiful words of tribute. I took the opportunity to see Russell, Benny Green and John Clayton at YOSHI'S in Oakland. Great show, great intergroup communication. Blessings to Russell's family and JazzFamily of colleagues and fans. While We're Young... But,too young. Just hearing the news in Germany.⭐🌹🔥🌹⭐
I just heard the news today and I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I remember the first time I heard his playing on a Ray Brown album and being spellbound. He leaves behind a great legacy. RIP.
Rest In Peace! Thanks for your being a friend for most of your life I will always cherish your warm and true friendship!!!Love ❤❤❤. I really enjoyed and will continue to listen to your soft and smooth music 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Many thanks to Diana Krall for introducing me to Russell Malone. Have loved his guitar playing for so many years, and hope to for many more years to come. Catch you at the big Jazz-fest in the Sky, brother.
i watched the video Russell Malone with Pat Martino, and others videos years ago , and for some reason i was watching his videos again since two weeks ago ,just today i learned he passed away 8 days ago , R.I.P Russell Malone
This is so sad to see. I've seen him play several times with Ron Carter over the years and was always blown away. RIP to another great who has left the venue all too early.
As a fellow guitarist I admire his touch, his natural flow and humanity. Pure music, direct from the heart ❤️ I’ve stolen an arrangement (or two) from his repertoire. I hope he is ok with that. Great loss. Grateful for having heard him play
I had a wonderful opportunity to play drums with Russell in Detroit at Alvin's back when he was on tour with Harry Connick Jr. A truly wonderful musician and person.
As a classical trombonist who valued lyricism above all else, Russell was a joyous, late life discovery for me. Nobody got a sweeter or more lyrical sound from the guitar than this man. And when he burned on the technical stuff, he was a white hot flame. Check out his work with Benny Green for some truly sulfurous playing. RIP, Mr. Malone, you will be SORELY missed!
I was shocked to hear of his passing. I first read it on the Japanese yahoo page and had to double check that it was him. I saw him live in a small club in Culver City back around 2006 or so. My friend and I talked to him afterward. He was a very friendly person and great player.
He cancelled shows 3 years ago already cos’ he was already having trouble with his health. The US healthcare system sucks big time ! too much legends dying too soon at a young age because it’s impossible to afford those bills, come on wake up americans !! make yourself a favor and pay the taxes for a universal healthcare, and make those greedy big pharma companies pay !
My wife and I got to see and hear Russell Malone on stage with Sonny Rollins many years ago in Davis, California at the Mondavi Center. It was extraordinary!
Thank you, Bret His duo album with Benny Green and his participation on Ron Carter’s Golden Striker album had a major influence on my playing. Sound, rhythm, note choices, taste. A clear vision. I attended a masterclass he gave in Montreal. He was such a gentleman, answering all the questions politely and profoundly… even when an odd woman asked him “what do you do for a living”… although surprised, he remained a gentleman. Rest in peace Russell Malone.
So saddened by this….at the same time inspired. He knew about his health and chose to play music until he just couldn’t. That act holds the meaning of love within it.
Have you got any other alternative with that stupid american healthcare system? seriously that sucks, too much legends are dying too soon because they can’t afford the healthcare bills…
Interesting 'shades', not least a jaunty digression a la Garner. The opening chord development at the piano , and the return after the ensemble segment might have been a wee bit more of an effervescent 'version' of Thelonious M on a charmed night 😊
Rest in Peace Russell Malone. I was just listening to your music last week with a buddy and saying what a treasure you were. I am heart broken. Your music will live on. You will greatly missed.
He dropped his body, but his music lives forever.
@@JazzVideoGuy His music along with great performances too. A tremendous loss to the jazz community at large. London, UK.
@@JazzVideoGuy Oh', that's a very nice way of looking at that.
R.I.P. Russell. Your gentle playing will stay with us.
Truly one of the best live jazz guitar performances that I’ve seen. A terrible loss.
So sad to see a lot of my heroes leaving the planet love you Russell Malone thanks for the beautiful music and inspiration
Loved his music - it always came from his heart, through his hands, to us.

60 is just too darn young. Condolences to his family & friends and how sad to have an artist cut off prematurely.
yes, it's so sad when someone who's so talented and such a great person, departs too early
I just found a CD of a jazz guitarist named Russell Malone. Great CD. Imagine my distress to realize I missed him by a week.☹️
I met him years ago, a great talent then, now and always!
Very sad news.
He was a wonderful player.

What a crappy time to bring up that subject!
Agreed snd let’s stop the freaking SARS too.

Wow! I was there that night.
Me as well.

@@joachimmahoudeaux8619 I don’t think that’s the case here, but I do agree.
I didn't know he had any health problems
@@bill3837 I didn’t either but it’s a small circle and a few of my friends knew him and told me as such.

yes, it is shocking

RIP. I’m sure you’re doing a jazz/blues duet with B.B.
He loved BB King. I can attest to that!
What a loss
