A resounding point of pride I observe in both Protestant and in Eastern Orthodoxy, due to lack of central authority and accountability, is this sense of "my". He spells it out at 25:50, "You took MY priests. You've taken MY parishes." Not "You've robbed the lord, led these people astray, etc.
Protestantism is no better. These "churches" all teach different interpretations of scripture and vie and fight for "market share" in their areas. Their pastors wear $1000 sport coats and drive Mercedes. Who's service is the most fun? Who has the best kids' programs? Who's coffee shop in the lobby is the best? It is sickening. Am I in the house of the living God or am I at a conference?

Your experience in the environment of the mass is very limited. I have been to Mass where the priest has literally stoped the mass and told the young women to leave and come back in decent attire. About two months ago my parish priest in his homily said he refused to give the Eucharist to someone wearing a shirt that had the word ***k, every mass I go cell phones go off or kneeling bench slams loud where one priest had to tell people not do that .All true. I know this doesn’t happen everywhere and it does not interfere with transubstantiation but come show some reverence. 😤

Hello, forgive my ignorance in posing this question.
But why is an infallible authority so important?
Why wouldn't a church with fallible authority be possible?
1 Timothy 3 and Titus give lists for testing presbyters and deacons for example, the letter 1 Timothy even mentions rebuking a bishop
who is in sin with 2 witnesses.
I understand sin does not equal false teaching perse, but it could be a sin to provide false teaching could it not?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but the pope is a bishop as well right; so how are we to test the pope?
How can we infallibly determine fallibility at all?
Please try to understand, I don't mean these questions in a confronting way, I genuinely interested in a defence for these questions.
I'm still Protestant atm. looking into the Catholic church.
I even got ex-communicated this month for refusing to reject Catholic doctrine (my reasoning: I can't reject what I don't know to be wrong or true).

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial

If you accept the authority of the Catholic Church and know it to be true and if you know Jesus started the Catholic Church and gave his authority to her, then you can trust the Church. We trusted the Church enough to give us the Bible (infallibly) and to choose just the right books that are Scripture while removing the other ones.
Asking we we need an infallible authority instead of a fallible one is a good question, but it's like asking why the Bible needs to be infallible, and couldn't we have a fallible Bible? Well, if we have a fallible Bible, then how can we know the truth for sure? Jesus promised in Jn. 16 to send His Holy Spirit to guide us into _all truth._ He guides his Church and prevents it from making mistakes on doctrine.
Infallibility does not mean that everything the Pope says or does is infallible or even correct. It also does not apply to anything outside of faith and morals. The Church cannot pronounce on science, or the lottery or math or anything else. It doesn't mean the pope has special knowledge letting him know everything in advance. No, infallibility is a negative charism. It simply means that when officially teaching a doctrine or dogma, the Holy Spirit guides the Church and the pope and prevents him from making mistakes so we can be led into all truth and have an assurance of the truth. Otherwise, how do we know what true for sure? Lastly, infallibility is very very rare. You can probably count on two hands the number of infallible statements the Church has made. Most of the teachings and doctrines fall under ordinary magisterium and not the charism of infallibility. There is a wide variety of statements the pope makes from his own opinion, up to authoritative, up to the top infallibility. Again, the last is rare, and most comments and statements fall within the former. For Pope Francis, most statements and teachings have been more of his opinion and personal thoughts rather than authoritative teaching. I hope that helps.

Pope Francis apologized for the ways Catholics have contributed to division with Orthodox Christians during a meeting with Greek Orthodox leaders in Athens..
Shamefully, patriarch - I acknowledge this for the Catholic Church - actions and decisions that had little or nothing to do with Jesus and the Gospel, but were instead marked by a thirst for advantage and power, gravely weakened our communion,” the pope told Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.

Feel free to prove it. The Orthodox broke away from the Catholic Church and the authority of the Pope in the 11th century. Read the earliest Christians. They were all Catholic not Orthodox. Not in a generic sense only but in a specifically Catholic sense. The Orthodox came back and returned to the Catholic Church twice in history and submitted to the pope again only to break away again later. It never happened the other way showing they were the ones who broke away in the first place. Plus there's no one Orthodox church. The are nationalized and fight with each other and excommunicate each other. They have never even had an ecumenical Council since the seventh Council early in the church because they have no authority.

After the Council of Florence, there was reunion, but that same year the Ottoman Turks took over Eastern Europe and closed off communion and dialog until 1921 when the Ottoman Empire fell in WW1. There could be no communion until the mighty Ottomans were gone. Proof of this is the fact the Russian Orthodox were invented in 1450 right after the Council of Florence, because the Russians didn't approve of Constantinople reuniting with Rome, so the Russian sect broke away from Constantinople. Almost every single Patriarch in Eastern Orthodoxy came about in the last 400 years because they broke away from their parent national church. None of it was done peacefully, none of it was based on any Council, no Council ever allowed that behavior. They all slowly broke away and said to their parent Patriarch "we're fine being on our own and setting up our own Patriarch, so if you want communion you must admit we're an independent church body". Not kidding.

Some will tell you it is literally that, others will say it means you evidence your faith by works, still others will tell you that simply declaring Christ the Lord secures your place in Heaven. So, first, as a whole Protestants can’t agree about what this sola even means (that’s the problem with allowing everyone to interpret things for themselves, as Prots do). Second, the faith alone with extra nos imputation is not the soteriology that Christ taught. See Matthew 19:16-26. The rich young man asks Jesus directly how to enter Heaven, and Jesus tells him, of course, that all he must do is believe in Him and His righteousness will be imputed to the mans account and he will be saved. Wait. Christ DOESNT say that. He tells the man to keep the Commandments and sell his possessions, give to the poor, and follow Him. Hardly sola fide with extra nos imputation.

No Catholic would tell you faith is not necessary, but it’s not everything you need. There’s more, and several places in the Bible concur with this. The ENTIRE Bible is true, not just the parts that you agree with.

I am Eastern Orthodox Christian and would like to say my peace. My son was originally baptized as Catholic due to his biological dad and his family being Catholic. When my son was 7 years old, he was received into Orthodox Church. I or my side of the family never pushed for it( we made multiple attempts to sign him up for CCD and it never worked out ).It was my son’s decision. I still take my son occasionally to Catholic Church for Sunday services and we always have had bad experiences. Some parishioners attacked us for blessing ourselves “in the wrong way” ( you know the sign of the cross in Orthodox is done differently ), some during Latin mass told us off because we were failing to kneel at the right time. Yet, I don’t hold grudges and truly believe it is the individuals at the church who decided that it was okay to judge. Our family never looked differently or judged any denominations ( my husband is former southern Baptist who is catechumen orthodox ). At our Orthodox Church, we have a lot of young folks coming from the Catholic side of the world and their reason “ I didn’t feel connected, I felt judged”. It is just our experience and I am sure that others have their own experiences.

Even all the Popes prior to the 11th century disagreed with its introduction into the Creed, which is why Rome never used it until then (and this shows how the so-called catholics actually do NOT believe in papal infallibility.) Another point to conisder is that before Lyons II, the interpretation of the filioque was unclear. It could be Orthodox and mostly was pre-schism apparently, as explained by St. Maximos. But with the pseudo-ecumenical council of Lyons II the heretical interpretation was made mandatory for the Latins and the Orthodox interpretation condemned, removing all wiggle room.

Yes we know why, Peter is the Rock and was given the keys. Funny thing is, neither Peter or any of his invented successors in Rome ever utilized the authority of the Papacy or claim in any fashion primacy for more than 1,000 years. Sounds kind of Lutheran to me, hey look there’s all this primacy and authority we’ve overlooked. Lucky for Pope Leo and the Holy Roman Emperor’s. Quite convenient too. But, mostly just the same old power grab that’s plagued humanity since the fall. Ignore the fact that belief requires jettisoning Scripture and a thousand years of principled tradition founded by James and the Apostles when they confronted the teachings that you had to become Jewish before you could become Christian, Enduring Consensus. For its precisely and exclusively the enduring voices of the many that is pleasing to the Holy Spirit as defined by Scripture and not the whims of any Pope, pastor or individual.

The Great Council did not address two major issues, therefore lost its credibility. Major issues: Ecumenism and the Church Calendar.

Sort of. The Orthodox of apostolic routes, but technically the Orthodox Church did not exist before they broke away. Before they broke away the church was Catholic.

Yes, the bishop of Rome is over the other bishops and always has been, just as Peter was the head Apostle and the only one to have the Keys of the Kingdom given to him by Jesus.

From the get-go a misleading video. Michael Lofton was already Catholic and remained intellectually a Catholic (by his own admission) for the three years (yes, only three years) that he attended liturgy at an Orthodox Church. Let's stop pretending he's an expert on the subject.

How are things working out with Bergogglio?

It's Pope Francis. There have been bad popes in the past, but yet it's still the truth Church of Jesus Christ it Guided by him. We are not fickle followers Guided by her every whim and stop following the church when things get rough as Jesus said they would.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial Yes, it's Pope Francis the apostate. Eastern Orthodox are not fickle followers either. The eastern Church knows persecution very well. However, we don't follow a man. Christ is head of His Church. In the early centuries of the one Church, when new heresies were appearing, needing to be answered with one voice, the Bishop of Rome sent representatives to take part in the ecumenical councils along with all the other Bishops. Together they followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and came to a decision.

@@Kitiwake I actually didn't point my finger. No need. It is very clear what Bergogglio is doing with catholics. The same forces which are manipulating you are also working on the Orthodox. The bigger difference is that the Orthodox kept what was given by the Apostles without morphing, changing and adding doctrines. Rome wandered from 'the faith once delivered to the saints'.
