I came from a Jewish background and was really ignorant of the differences between Catholic and Protestant. I was evangelized by Protestants but quickly realized something was wrong. The Protestants I knew were very kind, loving people. They were mostly Biola students and teachers, and were educated in the faith - not the Jack Chick kind of anti-Catholics. They taught me much about the bible, and I even memorized the book titles in order from the old an new testaments. However, as I read the Bible, certain passages started catching my attention that seemed to directly contradict the tenets that I'd been taught. Now, I'd been taught about all the Catholic 'additions' that 'weren't biblical,' because they weren't in the Bible, but this was different. This was biblical teachings that directly contradicted Protestant theology. I could go down the list, but it would require a much longer post. Suffice to say, I researched the Catholic faith and found it to be a deeper, more spiritually rich, more faithful incarnation of the gospels than the Protestant, fundamentalist, evangelical type of Christianity, and was baptized into the church in the 1980's. I've always found the Protestant arguments lacking in logic, and seemed more designed to justify schism from the Catholic Church than an actual ground-up theology consistent with history and scripture.

Protestants, in general, can't be classified as evil. However, there are some who are clearly bearing false witness against the Catholic Church, which is an evil-inspired act.
Repeating, without verification, the typical anti-Catholic venom reveals the irrational animosity ingrained in some self-defined "evangelical Protestants".

@@maranatha5064 The enemies of the catholic Church, ignorant of the early Christian Church history and the interpretation of biblical passages, will twist Biblical passages in order to present their own false agenda. Throughout the Church history
When John wrote the Book of Revelation, he was referring to the imperial city as the new Babylon. His reference was to the enemies of the Catholic Church, such being the Romans.
Therefore, you should know that when you are reading the Book of Revelation, Chapter 18, versus 4 to 8, those verses have nothing to do with today's Catholic Church. It is a reference to the Roman Empire of the first century.

The first 300-400 years after Christ's death was a terrible time for Christians. Nearly all the Popes during this time (over 30) were martyred by Roman Emperors. Unfortunately, during the Reformation, nefarious elements made this out to be the Catholic Church in order to further their agenda when for 1,500 years Christians knew this was about Babylon, Pagan Rome. I was also taught that John the Baptists ministry was to the Jews and while he taught that water baptism saves that Someone greater than himself would be coming and baptizing by the Holy Spirit…I was delving into this important topic with a former Mormon Bishop trying to convey the very argument of being born by water (the womb) and by water but water in itself doesn’t save. It was a tricky one because it’s so foundational for their own doctrine of baptizing by proxy and I did get stumped because in a sense he was correct in his interpretation of Baptism by water saves.

You don't need to read the book .....Jesus Himself tells you in the bible to eat His body and drink His blood
And the following verses attest to that :
      Mt 26:26-27; Mk 14:22,24; Lk 22:19-20; 1 Cor 10:24-25 - “This is my Body…This is my Blood.”
1 Cor 5:7 - “Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us, therefore let us keep the feast” (i.e. the the Eucharist)
1 Cor 10:16 - eating Eucharist is participation or communion with the Body and Blood of Christ.
1 Cor 11:26-30 - unworthy eating is sinning against the Body and Blood of Christ
Jn 6:52-58 - you must eat the Body and Blood of Jesus
Now this just makes the " Sola Scriptura" fly in the face of the protestants .... because they don't even follow it themselves .
      They cherry pick
Jesus didn't say " you must pretend to eat My body and drink My blood" .....end of story

Different Interpretation, Different Jesus. (A False Jesus) I ask how many Different Interpretations does it take to become a Red Flag to you?
And why isn't that Questioned as it should?
    There is only one God
    There is only one Truth
    There is only one Interpretation
Therefore there is only one Church
Guess what? They have no Answer.

Here are other verses that help about forgiveness and a question, is this where we get the last rites given to a dying person?
    James 5:13-16
13 Any one of you who is in trouble should pray; anyone in good spirits should sing a psalm.
14 Any one of you who is ill should send for the elders of the church, and they must anoint the sick person with oil in the name of the Lord and pray over him.
15 The prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise him up again; and if he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.
16 So confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another to be cured; the heartfelt prayer of someone upright works very powerfully.

I was an evangelical Protestant for 40 years before beginning my conversion process to the one, true, apostolic, and holy Catholic Church. For a Protestant, the Catholic Church HAS to be FALSE and an apostasy, otherwise they are wrong and are guilty of persecuting Christians and Christ’s Church that he commissioned through Peter. When a Protestant converts to Catholic, it’s through much research and sound, logical reasoning. Not just emotion, or “what I want” as we typically see when a Catholic converts to Protestantism. I certainly did not WANT to convert to Catholicism. I was quite happy with my 66 book Bible, faith alone doctrine, modern music, and theater seats with cup holders for my coffee. But that’s NOT what God wanted. He wanted me worshiping Him in Mass. He wanted me to sacrifice my wealth, my time, my talents, and my heart to do HIS work.

I need some apologetics help regarding an interaction I had with an atheist. I was speaking about Saint Thomas Aquinas 5 proofs for the existence of God and was retorted with the concept that if God is the great designer and creator of all things and if all things can be traced back to God initiating creation, if God exists, what/who created God? I felt my response to that was rather lack luster in that I replied that God is "outside" of the physical universe and is therefore not constrained by the laws of the physical universe so therefore He always was, is now, and ever shall be (in other words, infinite). What advice can be shared on how to counter the argument:
    1. All things that exist need a creator

@@jmdsservantofgod8405 are you sure that it really doesn't matter? You're ridiculous Bro. Sabbath keeping as the Holy Day of the LORD is very necessary. This is one of the "ten commandments of GOD" in Exodus chapter 20, particularly the 4th commandments and in fact, the heart of the ten commandments. Have you not noticed the word "remember" in the fourth commandments? I think you didn't. Now I want you to know that keeping the Sabbath Day Holy is very important, God already predicted that in the generations to come, many of the people in this world will forget this command, that is why He said the word "remember" for us not to forget it. And in fact, the Ten commandments is eternal, this is unchangeable (Matthew 5:17-18) , and you do not have to set aside any of the least of His commandments, for the one who sets aside the any of the least commands will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. It means , you'll not be going to enter in the Heavenly Throne of God if you set aside even one of His commandments. And here's the question now my brethren, do you truly love God? And if you truly love Him, keep all his commandments (John 14:15) and in fact this is the whole duty of man to fear GOD and keep all his commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13) and you will not be considered as one of the people of God if you will not keep his commandments and remain faithful to Him(Revelation 14:12), and lastly you will never have the right to the tree of life if you will reject his commandments (Revelation 22:14).. so friend, if you truly love Jesus our LORD and Savior, let's follow Him and be faithful to Him always 😇

@@jmdsservantofgod8405 well, you didn't really understand what Jesus means about the love of God and the love of our fellowmen. That's the summary of the ten commandments Sir. Just try to look on review about the ten commandments of God in Exodus chapter 20. You'll see that the first four commandments is the love for God, and the rest six is the love for our fellowmen. Now, I would not be going to argue about , we are now not under the law, but we are now under grace. Yes off course! That's what the Bible says. But noticed in Romans chapter 3:31 that says "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we stablish the law." See? It doesn't mean that because we are under grace we do not have to keep the Holy Law of God, which is the ten commandments. And in fact, God ask you, that if you love Him, you should keep his commandments (John 14:15) and John 15:10 says "If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my father's commands and remain in his love. And in verse 11 in continuation, it says there that "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy maybe complete." How wonderful and powerful are these verses friend 😇 and in fact, this is the love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.(1John 5:3) and this verse is referring to the ten commandments. And here's the truth about the people who do not sincerely follow the commandments of God, in 1John 2:4 "whoever says "I know him", but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person." So in means , if you do not follow the commandments of God my Dear friend, though you teach them so, then you'll be called a liar, because you didn't do it. So friend, If you truly love the Lord your God, just keep his commandments and follow what he teaches you, because this will justify your faithfulness to Him. So friend, follow God and not your own will.

    Sufficiency of scripture references.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (NIV) This verse emphasizes the divine inspiration and sufficiency of Scripture for instructing believers and equipping them for righteous living.
2 Peter 1:20-21: "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (NIV) This passage underscores the divine origin and authority of Scripture, emphasizing that it is not subject to personal interpretation but is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." (NIV) This verse highlights the illuminating and guiding role of Scripture in the life of the believer, suggesting that it provides clear direction and guidance for faith and conduct.
Matthew 4:4: "Jesus answered, 'It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’" (NIV) In this verse, Jesus affirms the authority of Scripture by quoting from the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 8:3), demonstrating its importance in shaping the spiritual life of believers.
Revelation 22:18-19: "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll." (NIV) While this passage specifically refers to the book of Revelation, some proponents of sola scriptura see it as a broader admonition against adding or subtracting from Scripture, affirming its completeness and sufficiency.
”Now these people were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.“
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭11‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
Clear example that the authority is from the scriptures.
On the authority of the Pope:
The early church writers like Clement clearly describes the early church as independent local bodies.
Tertullian in the early third century is the first writer to use the phrase “Pontiff Maximus” and “Bishop of Bishops”. The only problem here is he was insulting the Bishop of Rome because he was upset that this person was claiming to have more authority than they deserved.

None of these proved a sufficiency of scripture. Sorry.
2 Tim. 3:16-17 doesn't say that the Bible is the only or final authority. It doesn't say that anywhere. Rather, this passage says Scripture is 'helpful' (not sufficient) in helping a Christian. Many things are helpful in that regard, but it never says only or final. Lastly, 2 Tim. 3:16-17 is talking about the Old Testament Scriptures, not the whole Bible. So that doesn't prove your point.
If we are going to take this, literally, then all we need is James 1:4. James says that perseverance makes us perfect, and complete, and lacking in nothing, and the language is far stronger than in 2nd Timothy.

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial

Revelation 22 does not prove the Bible alone or the sufficiency of scripture either. This was written by John when he was exiled on the Island of Patmos. After he had finished writing the book of Revelation, he sealed it up with the warning not to add or take away from it because it was given to him directly by God. The Bible would not even be put together for another 300 years. So this passage is only talking about the Book of Revelation not the whole Blble.

1- Sola Scriptura is a natural understanding of what it means to have inspired Scripture.
2- In Old Testament times they were to test future teachers and teachings by the Scripture they had received.
3- in the New Testament the gospel, once communicated, was to be held to no matter who came to teach otherwise. This absolutely requires individual understanding of the gospel (which is in the New Testament) and the ability to tell any potential "authority" to take a hike.
4- challenges about denominations or the origin of the canon are not defectors for Sola Scriptura.
5- Striking Parallels between Catholicism and Pharisaism seem to demonstrate precedence for how to deal with supposed church authority when it ads tradition to the commands of God.

Care about the poor? Not that much from what I've seen. Mostly they care about the arts which is useless to the very poor--opera when you are starving to death? Who cares? Some painting won't feed anyone food for their belly or heat or cool for their body. Yeah, comfort your soul with a gaudy piece of art-- while you starve, freeze or die of dehydration.
Protestants give money when it is needed to the person who needs it. Catholics here only give money from the church to the poor once a year and not much either. They have to beg outside a locked door. Yet, it is the wealthiest church in town and the church itself is ornate beyond belief. Some stupid Mardi Gras parade--again, people dressed like nutcases-- drunk as hell. For what?

On the Day of Pentecost Peter urged the many Jews from abroad who had come to Jerusalem for the Passover feast to repent of their sins and be baptized for the remission of their sins and that they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Cornelius, the gentile, with his household and friends actually received the Holy Spirit first before they were baptized in water on the same day I suppose. Paul was concerned that the 19 disciples that he had met in Ephesus had only received the baptism of John - the baptism of repentance - and therefore he laid hands on them to receive the Holy Spirit.
By the way Jesus said to his apostles that they will do even greater things than he did; but we do know that Jesus has the the pre-eminence in everything.

      @jelsemkerrlibertino5282 Рік тому

Well, Sir you're referring to the chapters and verses that goes out of the context. You particularly used Matthew chapter 15 and Mark chapter 7. Now my question is, do you think this particular chapters (Matthew chapter 15 and Mark chapter 7) that you used, talks about "the forbidden animals to eat"? Or the very issue in these chapters is all about "washing your hands before you eat"? These chapters talked about "washing your hands before you eat", exactly. Because the Pharisees had their tradition that when you eat, you have to wash your hands, and this is according to their tradition, and for them following this tradition is necessary for their salvation. But Jesus rebuked them about this tradition. Now my second question is, do you find the forbidden animals mentioned in this chapter? No not at all! Because this is not what the chapter is talking about. I will never get to argue with what Jesus's said in verse 11 in Matthew that says "what goes in someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them." Exactly! Now I'm gonna share with with the truth just for an enlightenment, when we go back to the original greek manuscript, we can find there the word "artus" in this chapter, and "artus" in the english translation is the what we called "bread" , and that's what the disciples ate that time, and not the swine's flesh and any forbidden animals that God forbid us to eat (leviticus chapter 11 & Deuteronomy chapter 14). I hope this is clear.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial Are you sure that in Acts chapter 10, the context is all about food? Or it's all about people? This chapter talks about the people. Yes GOD showed Peter the vision, He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, "get up Peter kill and eat". Then have you not wondered about the response of Peter? He replied, "surely not Lord!" I have never eaten anything impure and unclean. Why is that he never eaten anything impure and unclean, obviously because that's what Jesus taught them, not to eat impure and unclean animals. Now, after it happened three times, the sheet was taken back to heaven right? So, the vision has its meaning. And Peter was wondering about the meaning of that vision. And Yes, if you'll try to read the whole chapter, then you'll find the meaning of the vision that vision in verse 28 that says "He said to them: You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But GOD had shown me that "I should not call anyone impure or unclean." Now, this is what the vision means, I hope it's clear for you Sir. Please when you use a particular verse just to defend an argument, make sure that you read the whole chapter and understand its thought. Be wise and be truthful Sir, do not try to deceive someone for the sake of your man-made doctrine. Now, here's my last verses to share with you, if you think GOD already allowed us to eat all those forbidden animals that He mentioned and command us not to eat in Leviticus chapter 11 and Deuteronomy chapter 14, why is that in Isiah chapter 66:15-17 it says "See the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgement on all people, and many will be those slain by the LORD."Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things- they will meet their end together with the one they follow", declares the LORD. Now this is the truth Sir. Hopefully you'll accept this truth, and hopefully you're enlightened about this. God bless you Sir, and we'll help to pray that you'll fully understand the truth in the Bible and accept it with all your heart, mind, soul, and everything that you have😇

      @Ryan_Zell Рік тому

Paul warned us there would be division, but only one of the 2 actors would be correct.
      1 Cor 11:19
for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.
KJV 1 Cor 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
St. Augustine, explaining this text, says that as fire is necessary to purify silver, and separate it from the dross, so heresies are necessary to prove the good Christians among the bad, and to separate the true from the false doctrine. The pride of the heretics makes them presume that they know the true faith, and that the Catholic Church is in error, but here is the mistake: our reason is not sufficient to tell us the true faith, since the truths of Divine Faith are above reason; we should, therefore, hold by that faith which God has revealed to his Church, and which the Church teaches, which is, as the Apostle says, "the pillar and the ground of truth" (I. Tim. 3:15).
St. Iraeneus says, "It is necessary that all should depend on the Roman Church as their head and fountain; all Churches should agree with this Church on account of her priority of principality, for there the traditions delivered by the Apostles have always been preserved" (St. Iraen. lib, 3, c. 3); and by the tradition derived from the Apostles which the Church founded at Rome preserves, and the Faith preserved by the succession of the Bishops, we confound those who through blindness or an evil conscience draw false conclusions (Ibid).
It was the will of the Almighty that the Church in which the true faith was preserved should be one, that all the faithful might profess the one faith, but the devil, St. Cyprian says (de Unitate Ecclesie), invented heresies to destroy faith, and divide unity. The enemy has caused mankind to establish many different churches, so that each, following the faith of his own particular one, in opposition to that of others, the true faith might be confused, and as many false faiths formed as there are different churches, or rather different individuals.
The Church is by her very nature indefectible. Her adversaries cannot overcome her. We have the assurance of Christ that the Church will never be totally destroyed as he clearly states that "the gates of Hell will no prevail against it" (Matt 16:18). Yet this promise of indefectibility is not given to any person (this includes the Pope), state or country but only the Church as whole. For this reason did St. Athanasius say that even if the Church were reduced to handful of people, if they hold to tradition, they would be the true Church, since holding to the deposit of faith and rejecting it is what makes the difference between being a Catholic and being a Heretic.

Is it not logical that, if Jesus gave his disciples the power to heal the body, He would give them the power to heal people's souls? Which is more vital to a human being - to be assured that one's body is free from sickness or that one's soul is free from sin? The Sacrament of Reconciliation brings this assurance assuming, of course, that the penitent is truly sorry and has a firm purpose of amendment. It also has the ecclesial dimension of reconciling the person to the community as well as to God. This is true 'blessed assurance'. The sacrament also has the added advantage of spiritual guidance and heart to heart conversations that are guarded by the 'seal' of Confession which can be of great benefit to one's mental health - thus bringing further healing.
