1974 , My mum and her friend Jenette were going out for the night , I checked the paper and asked about this film which was on in an hours time , "It's a girls film Dave , you won't enjoy it " said mum's friend .....by 11 : 30 pm on BBC 1 , I had witnessed one of the best movies that I have ever seen , the split screen , the coolness of the co - stars and of course the magnificent score written by Michel LeGrand . A quintessential late 60's movie .

I like the film also. But I do feel it is really a character study of two not really nice people.

One of the first movies I'd ever seen. I was 9, and saw it the year it was released (1968) at an incredible vintage art house theater---in Boston. It was a double feature with The Beatles' Yellow Submarine. Even at that young age, I knew this movie was special.
    Still is...

Wow, now that's a double feature I would not have thought of, but sounds great! Thanks so much for watching the video and for your comment... have a great week! 👏📽

    Hi Steven,
Steve McQueen was the first movie star even before Clint Eastwood that I wanted to watch his movies from his career, after being brought up on his cool & tough guy movies I was somewhat slightly disappointed with “The Thomas Crown affair” on first viewing but it definitely grew on me as it’s a movie & role that you don’t expect McQueen to really shine as it’s a much different character than he usually plays, I like it for that & I’ve always said that he’s a better actor than critics give him credit for.
A stylish game changer for sure this one & even Faye Dunaway who I’ve never been a fan of is very good in her role.
    Classic heist drama movie 😎

yeah, I do like seeing McQueen in this... its a shame he didn't do more things like this as, like you said, he had the ability to do more than just the brooding silent type that many people associate him with. cheers buddy, take care. 👏📽

Saw it in 68 when I was 14. An impressionable age. 🙂

Steve McQueen is my fave old school actor and yet I've never seen this.
I never wanted to as he seemed so miscast to me for some reason. I should give it a go shouldn't I?

I love this movie, which grew on me after seeing it when it was new, but if you think about it critically, the plot is absurd. Faye comes up with the idea that the actual perpetrators met up for the first time at the robbery with zero evidence of this - and she decides Steve is the mastermind also with zero evidence, just based on what he looks like in a photo.

I totally agree... it certainly doesn't hold up to close scrutiny. Possibly the reason we are dazzled with flashy editing and immaculately dressed actors, so we don't notice... haha. Thanks so much for checking out the video. 👏📽

What for me is interesting about the film, is that these are really two awful people. Yet, the film does not try to shower with you about that, but it is something you migh tjust catch. In fact, the people who are doing to robbery at the beginning, are actually better people than these two creeps. A telling moment is with Yaphet Kotto and one of the other robbers, exchanging pleasentries, and knowing that this will probably be the only time they meet.

You're right. We are asked to sympathise with some shady characters who are just out to make some ill gotten gains. I think the actors just about pull it off though. This is definitely one of my favourites from the 60's. Thank you for watching! 👏📽

@@ReelClassicFilmReviews thank you. I noticed this in the film. They don't throw it in your face, but compare to the remake with Brosnon. Here Mcquenn for me is a sociopath. He actually puts people lives in danger. Unlike the remake which cops out on that part. this film could not have been made 20 years earlier, as the code would have said you could not do this.
the film though is brilliant though that it does not throw morality in your face.

@@kazamshah4543 Your not talking about the remake are you? I guess every one will react differently to a film. I for one find Maltese Falcon one of the most overated films I have ever seen. Also, though it has been a long time, I was bored by Amadues when I saw it in the theater. I had liked many of Milos Foreman films much more before that one. Another film that I could not understand that critics liked, was that BORAT film in 2006.
