    Great mom! Spending this time to instruct and guide is absolutely worth it in years to come. Moms please note: As the mother of adult children, teacher of preschoolers, English tutor to middle and high schoolers, church director of kids’ ministry, parenting educator, at-risk youth mentor….please, please have your children say, “I’m sorry” and not just “Sorry.” It makes a difference. For some reason this trend started somewhere in the 1990’s, early 2000’s. Prefacing the statement with “I’m” personalizes it and causes one to assume actual ownership of it, whereas “Sorry” is just a word, or even just an observation.

    even the big brother seems to be relieved and so happy to give some love instead of anger. and the small brother could take it because there are no deep issues between them - just some spontaneous anger, no deep hatred or such. this can be healed well. and it is such a great job to lead them to love again.

    I'm teaching my 4-year-old, if you cause a problem, you must fix it. Whether it is spilling and cleaning something up or running over her little brother and going back to apologize and help him up. As adults, all of our actions have consequences or rewards, so we can never teach them too early. And when she doesn't want to, I tell her it doesn't always feel good to do right, but it is still right. We must instill this in our children, right is always right, wrong is never right. Kindness is a rule in our home, carelessness is not ok, accidents must be fixed, bad behavior must change. When you lead by example, they will automatically follow. Even if it takes times. We parents need more patience....

    Absolutely...as if a child is just going to one day say sorry...it does need to be felt of course but also needs to be taught first!

  • @v4v819
    @v4v819 4 місяці тому

    Toddlers don't know what sorry means and they haven't grown a conscience yet, so there is no point in forcing a sorry on them this young... But any age knows what consequences feel like, so that's a message that always hits clear and straight to the heart! And i'm not condoning physical punishment nor even spanking i'm saying take away what they like and put them to bed early or without food i'm saying they get the message fast and their behavior will correct as they will want what is lost back that they desire and need in their life... Consequences are consequences for a reason and a part of life. So don't deny your children the real lessons or life will teach those lessons but at a far higher price!

    It breeds a world of kids who say “sorry” to get out of something rather than actually feeling remorseful for what they’ve done. I see it every day. If you’re going to force a child to say sorry, ask them what they’re saying sorry for. Guarantee half of them won’t have clue.

    • @lioralynx

      The understanding can come later, just because they don't understand right now in this very moment, as they grow it will begin to click more. How else are you supposed to teach your kid the importance? Almost anything a child does, they don't understand the reason for it since they are just mimicking the things around them.

    I’m a preschool teacher and the pedagogy of this generation of teachers is to not encourage children of this age to say “I’m sorry.” I disagree. For 30 years, I’ve encouraged the practice of saying “I’m sorry” and bringing the aggrieved child and the child who did the hurting together. This is important in helping to build a civil society.

    As a therapist and a parent, I'm asking you to please stop this. Your children are crying and you are filming them. If you want to educate others on parenting techniques that work for you, you could reenact this scenario. You could discuss it after the fact. You could recommend books, podcasts or educational videos. You could be present for them in the moments they are upset. At the very least you could blur their faces. But now all these videos of them having big feelings are online forever, connected to their names. When they are in middle school, any of their friends or bullies will be able to see this. Any random adult can watch them grow up, see their private moments, knows their names, watches them give each other affection and feels entitled to information about them..... gentle parenting is about treating your children with respect and autonomy, not violating their privacy and monetizing them.
