How in Gods name could anyone ever have a sense of security and peace of mind living in a house built on sticks in sand 10 feet from the ocean?
People that build right on the beach are crazy, rich or both.
The ocean wasn't so close when those homes were built. Years of rising sea levels have done this. The amount of beach erosion in both depth and width over last decade has been mind boggling.
@@jobe8764 still, building on the beach front, very smart. There's a reason why the homes looked new, homes get wiped out, then the lots are slowly rebuilt. (Yearly visitor to Ormand since 1970)

@@jobe8764 yes you are right. It is heartbreaking but inevitable with the climate issues and these storms. Paradise lost. We can’t rebuild with our considering the constant threat of destruction

Question: How many hurricanes does it take for coastal builders to wake up and smell the sea shells, star fish, and all that jazz. These buildings are too close to the ocean
In their minds they may think the closer to the shore you build the safer you will be from flooding Many use a similar mentality when buying more guns
I know this part of A1A very well. As you can see in the video, the majority of homes are old, built decades ago, when there were wide dunes between the homes and the beach. Last hurricane was Dora, a category 2 in 1964. Then in Oct. 2016, Matthew washed 20-30 yards of dunes into the Atlantic. Next year, hurricane Irma finished the rest. The majority of damage occurred from 2700 block south.
So I don't blame those who built there in 1950 when the conditions were totally different. But the most amazing thing is that these homes or empty lots (where homes were recently washed away or have been razed) are still being sold. And new million dollar homes are being built. THAT is crazy.
I’m on the west coast just went through monster Ian. I’m fixing and out of here. This is my 7th hurricane I had enough it gets expensive.
After the insurance payoff, NO rebuilding should be allowed on the east side of A1A ever again.

How many hurricanes away from the people on the other side of the highway having beach front property?
Next big one will take out both beachfront and road, leaving no access for any structures that survive. Rebuilding now will cost big $$$$$$ and be futile anyway.

The beach I grew up by is nearly gone. No more sand dunes, beach grass, or even one of the established farms are left. That is near Cape Mendocino in north California. Your choice to live there, not mine.
If possible, could you please make a drone video of the CRESCENT BEACH area, specifically the Windjammer Condominiums. I am supposed to be renting there in a few weeks, and I do know it is damaged, but I cannot find any videos of this area to see specifics. Most likely I will cancel tho. Thank you!

As the sayings go: You're only as strong as your foundation and only a fool would build his home upon the sand. By deductive reasoning, these must be weak fools ...? The Most High intended the beach to be for everyone's enjoyment.

Unfortunately, the costal communities need to come to an understanding that erosion is a process that will continue…..Real estate will be lost as well as the land. A process for withdrawing from the waters edge needs to be accepted as fact. I am a previous condo owner. It is a sad situation.
