I feel like other UA-camrs give me so much anxiety when it comes to plant care and make me feel like such a noob but your videos never make me feel that way so thank you!! It gives me hope that maybe I CAN be a good plant mom lol💕
Don't be anxious. I've been gardening a looooong time and I learn something new every day. Fact is you will lose some and it's ok. It's all a learning process. The ones that get you anxious have losses too, I'd bet money on it! LOL We take care of plants because we love them, and being in touch with nature, etc. I don't like this new "trend" of having the "right" plant and all that. Takes the joy out of it.
Got mine for $5 at the local nursery, I'd call that a win with the price fluctuations
You’re so lucky!!
jon lucky! I just paid 30 🙃😩
I bought mine for $12 bucks in an 8 inch pot. I thought it was a steal but you beat me 😄
The guy at the plant store couldn’t remember the name, so he sold me a tray of 6 for 20$!! They were priced at 10$ each originally.
I just got one yesterday for 30 which is... about 4 bucks ?I think?
in the Philippines, you can find it climbing on a tree! got one for free 😄
Wow!! That's awesome
Same here!
So jealous! I just paid $25 Canadian dollars for a 4" pot.
Lucky!
That's a tibatib or dragon tail.
I picked this plant up at the kroger floral shop on a whim for about $12 a few weeks ago... it is now my favorite plant!
I just found one for $12 and I was blown away. If this wasn't the last one I would have purchased more.
Your videos are so relaxing to watch. I absolutely admire this true love for plants that you're shearing here with us. Greetings from Poland!
Thank you!! ☺️🌿
Love this format! Every question I had answered in less than four minutes (not that I don't love more expansive plant videos, but there's a time and a place). Thank you!
Thank you for being straight to the point, in a short time all the information i needed to hear! This is the First video of you i have watched. I subscribed after 2 min of watching you :) also you made me write my first UA-cam comment EVER. Lol
Thank goodness someone made a care guide I couldn’t find any when I got my first cuttings! It took almost 3 months to root in soil for me...😓 I thought I was going to loose it while water propagating lol it grew so quickly as soon as it rooted and won’t stop growing!
They grow wild!!
Thank you Nick for this care tip video, the BEST on UA-cam (all I needed to know and to the point). I bought 2 mini monsteras today, they were $12.99 each for a 4 inch pot and hey were 50% off, at my local nursery. I got both of them for $11.00 :). I am glad to learn that this is an easy/fast grower. Thanks for the warning about over watering it, don't want no yellow leaves or worse, root rot.
I also find that it is very sensitive to drafts and cold air. Turning black on the tips if it’s in a cooler window/draft. Grows very fast I find. Love your videos. Cheers 🌵🌿🌸
Very true! Thanks 🌿☺️
Is that I why my leaves are turning black and brown. Wonder how the plants do well outside where it’s breezy?
I keep hearing how fast they grow but mine's doing nothing for almost two months! Any tips? I have it in well draining soil, water when dry, not direct sunlight and no root rot but it's just sitting there!!
@@renegadetherapist5664 have you been fertilizing it. I use a organs fertilizer on mine. It has grown to the ceiling since January. Find a good fertilizer. Good Luck 😉
@@cherylparks9780 Thanks, I planted it with worm castings, but nothing else. It's a cutting and I assumed it was young but it might not be!! I'll give that a try.
I needed this video two weeks ago! Love your videos. You’re the reason I brought a tetrasperma into my home.
Love this! I'm so glad you finally did a care guide on this! I want to get one soon 💕
Thank you!! 🌿☺️
Love all your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Love this plant! You're absoluetely right, such an easy grower! Loved the video 😘💚
Thank you! ☺️🌿
Thanks for mentioning window direction! So helpful to really understand where I can grow this plant happily in my home.
Here in Kansas is $20!! Ugh. So beautiful anyways🤍. Very informative video!
$16 @ Ace Hardware in SE Tennessee. I spotted it from across the store and I knew I was buying it, no matter the cost! lol
@@JABaker-ug4jk That's exactly what I did! haha
Awesome video! Simple, to the point, and told me everything I needed to know
Just brought mine at home a month ago and it already grew some new leaves ! Such a beautiful and rewarding plant I agree with you Nick : ) Cheers from France !
They almost grow too fast 😅
I just got mine off an online vendor and it came soaked in water. Leaves clearly water logged. Some were actually not just yellow, they were brown. It's been 4 days since its arrival and it already looks better and relieved.
"Underwatering for this plant"
....ummm..... is it just me or does anyone else underwater every plant they own... even succulents. Almost all of my plants are underwater except for my haworthia's that have for some reason always died even though I only water once every like 3 months. I water all my plants when needing a deep watering by bottom soaking for about 30 minutes. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
My Hawthoria are the opposite! I water them once a week and have them in a Northern window in the Pacific Northwest. They are so happy this way. get loads of pups and growth and two of them are flowering right now. I don’t deep water.... just top water about a half cup of water for a five inch pot. I have them in a cactus soil and only repot when they out grow a pot or when there are too many pups. Hope that helps you some?
This plant is starting to show up in regular garden centers at a much lower price now, along with many other wish list plants. The frenzy of the plant chase is over I think.
I hope so! Before this plant fell into the plant obsession zone, they were at Walmart for $15 for a big one.
Just don't get the "gotta have it NOW at any cost" thing. Never have.
Its because its being tissue cultured and its not the natural form of the plant thats why the price is dropping
They’re being mass produced ☺️
@@NickPileggiPlants is the none tissue cultured worth more. I am looking for the tissue cultured one I have the none.
I'm in Malaysia. Just bought my second plant for about 4 USD.
😭😭😭
My favorite videos to watch. Thank you for sharing awesome 👍🏼
Thank you!! ☺️🌿
Great Video, it wasn't too long and had all the important information I was searching for :)
I bought two rooted plants and growing them in my fish tank! They both growing nicely with new leaves.
bayunify how does that work? Just to let it root?
@@lalalealovex3 they will keep on growing in the water. Since mine growing in my fish tank, they will get nutrition from the water They both now have several new leaves.
What does a waterlogged leaf look like? That would be helpful to see. Thanks! :)
Julia Beatty can’t post a photo here, but leaves show dark brown patches on sides of leaves.
Sections of the leaves will look translucent, I’ll have to show in a future video
@@NickPileggiPlants well it seems I gave mine a bit too much water as it has translucent leaves XD thank goodness it is just too much water, I thought it wasn't getting enough light, but it is under a grow light so I was confused haha TY Nick!!
Bought one today. Wish me luck🤞🏾🤞🏾
I got this plant by accident. I thought it was a monstera deliciosa lol. I actually got it on clearance ($8) at my local grocery store a few months ago. I finally figured out what it was and was shocked at the prices. Mine is growing like crazy. I need to look for a trellis today. I don't water mine a lot. Probably close to every two weeks. I think it starts to droop when it needs water. I have it in a lower light area and it's doing very well there. There's a really large window. But it's brightest there as the sun is setting in the evening. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for mentioning the overwatering concerns! I just got one in my last shopping trip (with Christmas gift cards 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼) and it’s absolutely stunning! Glad to hear it’s not a fussy Betty! 🌿🌿
It’s super easy!! Just definitely doesn’t want extra water
Got mine recently for £12 in the UK. It’s pretty small, but I intend to grow it over a trellis!
Love that this one is easier to find these days!
Me too!!
I love my tetrasperma! One is a baby and the other is a juvenile with fenestration on all the leaves. I can’t wait to watch it grow.
Hi! Great videos! I got a cutting of one of these in the mail (risky I know) but it was in very good shape. Long roots, two leaves. I planted it in well draining soil and at first I gave it too much light so I lost a leaf...burned! I now have it in a bright area, just out of direct morning sun. But it is doing nothing. Almost two months and one growth point that started but it turned brown and stopped. No root rot. Just sitting there, one little leaf and doing nothing. Water when dry, etc. Any suggestions? thanks ahead of time.
Please take the plant out of the pot and put the roots in water!!!! This exact same thing happened to me and my mom put it in water and boom! Sprung back up like a whole new plant! It works like crazy! I hope your plant gets better ♥️
@@SimranMurar Thank you!!! I will do it right now!!
Thanks! My plant is like 15 feet from a window with full sunlight, hope it's the right amount of light
Cool, I love this plant, your right Nick it's easy to grow and thanks for the tips and advice! Have a fab week
Gosh! This is just in time. I just bought a plant labeled philodendron minima. Thought it’s a philodendron that I dunno about. Was googling the plant care and realized I bought this!
That and Monstera Minima are other names the plant is sold as on the market!
You’re so knowledgeable! Thanks for your video!!
Thank you! ☺️🌿
Hey neighbor....Norristown here!!! Patiently waiting on my Mini Ginny to arrive today!!! I just found you on IG...following you there, too!
Just bought one ( rescue) it was obviously over watered. Bought at lowes. I removed all soil because it was hard as a rock. Repotted it. Crossing my fingers it survives. Leaves were dull, I used neem oil solution on leaves hoping if any pest was on it I killed it. Have it under a grow light and hoping for the best.😊
I just bought one a week ago and now it only has one leaf.... so this was helpful.
I love this plant it's on my wishlist! Thank you for this video!
Of course! 🌿☺️
Informative video. I just ordered my 1st one and am very excited to get. Thanks for sharing
Hope it arrives well!!
@@NickPileggiPlants It sure did.
Yeah price wise, this can be a bit mid-range in price here in Melbourne but definitely not on the cheaper side. I usually get my cheap plants at a hardware chain place here called Bunnings and you BARELY see this there. One day, I went to three stores just to see what kinds they have and in the middle of the spider plants was a baby version of this in a 5 inch pot, hiding away from plain sight. It was the ONLY one left and it didn't even have a label. It just said "Philodendron". I knew it was a tertrasperma because two of the leaves were already fenestrated that way. It was the ONLY one left and it was for only $12! I grabbed it and it's been nearly two months and I have never seen this in any of the stores ever again.
That is definitely a find!!!
I like mine too. Thanks for the info.
When you say a fast grower you are so right about that.
Nick, your videos have been a lifesaver for me as I venture into plant motherhood! I purchased mine from a local greenhouse but it has browning on some of the tips, some of them being a significant portion of the leaf tip. What would this be from? Its only on the old growth- the 2 new leaves I've seen have no issues at all! THANKS A MILLION TIMES!
I should say, it isnt mushy brown, its crispy brown!
I really love this series! Thanks so much!
Thank you!! ☺️🌿
Mine does well in a southwestern facing window!
Angela T mine too!
Mine to but behind a sheer curtain in the summer
That is certainly good to know !!
May have to put this on my list. Thanks!
It’s a beaut!
Nick, so grateful for this video! I just received a very smashed-up raphidophira tetrasperma in the mail, so badly shaken that the rootball had become completely dislodged. Now I'm wondering if I should propogate it or just try and replant it?
Lillie Doubleyou how is it doing now?
Nice video. Good information...I feel better now😁
I bought mine from Home Depot and it was overwatered. Already lost one leaf and there are a couple translucent ones as well. Thanks I’ll wait a week before watering.
I've Often heard that it costs quite a bit in other countries and on other continents. I paid 9€ in germany. I've bought it from a expensive and high-quality shop and it was really big with about 8 stems coming out of the stem that once was the cutting. In other stores it might be even cheaper. Crazy how the prices depend on your location.
Darf ich fragen wo du deine her hast?
Unfortunately I purchased mine overwatered and to save it I had to cut the newest leaf because it was way yellow however that was where the new growth would come from its scabbed over now and on a healthy watering schedule however it’s not giving me any more new growth :( any suggestions?
Is yours a tissue culture? I'm wondering if the difference is worth it to spend more on the original or not. Yours looks gorgeous.
Hi, how long do you have the grow lights on during the day? Kinda late to the party... love you me video’s!! From Scotland
Hi Nick, I have just purchased one and think that the light in my room is insufficient enough for it to grow its best. I was wondering if you could suggest or tell me what grow light you use so I can purchase one for my plant? 😊
Nick your raffy on the lattice got lots of leaf burn just a few months after you shot this video (on the wall decorating video). Did it get too much direct sunlight? Or was there a fertilizer or watering issue?
Great tips! Thank you!
☺️🌿
Thanks for the info, You've inspired me to set up a trellis indoors and Im currently trying to decide between the raphidophora and a monstera adansonii to put on it.
Put both!
@@lhb4303 you know, I think you're right!
Haha I agree, do both!
Hi. Great video. I just got two small cuttings with a bit of roots from ebay. I live in a low humidity state. I have the cuttings in water under a small clear plastic bowl (dollar store “greenhouse”). Is it better to let them get accustomed to low humidity from the beginning? I’m wondering if it will get used to the humidity then die once I remove it from the bowl/greenhouse dome once it gets too big. Any recommendations about this? Thanks!
i bought 3 today for 3 dollars each at the local swapmeet and i almost cried lmao
Nick, what kind of soil would you use for this plant? I got a cutting with one long root and was in soil but don’t know what kind and want to give it the best possible chance of living. Thanks!
Hey! QQ how do you grow yours as a vine? mine keeps growing bushier when I'd prefer to grow it long and lean
Hi Nick, love your videos! You mentioned that you looked at the back if the leaves and saw they were waterlogged. What do waterlogged leaves look like? Also, if I cut a node or two off my plant will the growth after the cut split into 2, just continue on or stop altogether on that stem? (Or something else?) Thanks for your help.
NOW, That We're Clicking...I Definitely Have IT On My Mind To Get A 2nd One!!! The Way This MINI-Monstera Is Growing I Won't Miss The OTHER Monstera Because IT Must Get MONSTROUS!!!
Thanks for sharing. Can I position in medium to light and can it grow in a pot?
I have ordered two recently - from different growers. The first one didn't look too well when I got it. The second was perfect . . . for about a week then it started getting brown spots on the sides of three leaves. I contacted the supplier and they responded saying it was probably some 'cold shock' (now they are in Florida and I am in Florida so I don't think 'Cold Shock' was accurate. I put a photo of the leaves on my plant identification site on Facebook and that site said the leaves needed more humidity. After viewing your video, I'm going to put in a North/East facing window to see if maybe the problem is not enough light. I am confused! I really love this plant, but I don't want it to drive me crazy. Thanks for your info!
Jean Gaissert Hello Jean, I also live in Florida and if you have Central air, it may be too cool for your cuttings. Try placing your cuttings where it gets light, but not direct sunlight, mist the leaves lightly early morning so the water will create humidity needed during the day. If your plant is like me , it will take a while to get used to FLORIDA ,lol.
I had this plant in my front window area so it could get bright light. IT was still looking Pitiful and I found that I had to take steps to increase the humidity to make This Plant Grow Happy!!! NOW, there's 2 new leaves that are already fully fenestrated and the older leaves on the plant are growing larger. Inside of its decorative container I keep a layer of moist pebbles and since then I have received Its Leafy Thanks!!!
Lucky Gracie both now reside in my bathroom and get plenty of humidity. They are about 5 feet back from NorthWest facing window.
I just got my wishlist plant at Home Depot for $12😭😭😍
very pretty monstera
I live in Hawaii and I’m thinking my environment is similar to this plant’s native environment. Would it be a good idea to keep it outside or keep inside to protect from high winds?
Should I wait til my moisture meter reads in the dry numbers ?
nice plant i have one and i toke cuttings from it now i have so many of it and they grow soo fast 🙂
Just found this plant at Trader Joe’s for $10!!
Mine ALWAYS looks like its thirsty even thought its well watered? I let it dry up between waterings?? So its not overwatering? I am so confused
Perhaps your soil is too “clay-ey”. It isn’t too much water that is suffocating the roots , but perhaps the soil
Thank you Nick. I came here to look for information on temperature. I found some black leaves and black patches on my tetrasperma after a very cold weekend. What can I do to improve the temperature for my office plants please?
My poor baby! I got one by mail, cute little thing with two leaves, nice roots. First, I gave it too much sun and totally burned one of the leaves. Then it had root rot. (I am trying to stop my over watering habit) Cleaned it up and it is now just sitting there, no growth, nothing at all. It's been a couple of weeks. Any suggestions to help it start to grow??? I have it in low light, but maybe too low, I'm so afraid to burn it again. Thanks for any suggestions! P.S...it does have one little growth point that showed up a few days ago, but very slow doing anything. Unless I don't realize just how slow they are.
Ty so much love your videos
Thank you ☺️🌿
What are your thoughts to the tissue cultured version and the "real" version?
I have a north facing window, in the northern hemisphere. I have one variegated monstera, normal monstera and a rubber plant up against the window. The leaves of the monsteras have been shooting new leaves but they aren’t the best looking ones.. but still seem happy. I want them to be a nice look but i only have a north facing window. Can anyone help with ideas what to do?
What soil and fertilizer is best for these? I just bought one from Home Depot
I have them on a west window but off to the side do u think I should add a sheer curtain?
I just bought one of these but only two leaves have fenestration and the rest on the bottom don’t. Should I just continue giving the plant what it needs (light, proper watering, and fertilizing) ? And hope for the new leaves to have slits?
It’s a beauty!! 😀
☺️🌿
I just bought 2 variegated ones (one has a small spot about the size of a nickel, second is a quarter of the leaf), I’ve been told you don’t see many...I had no idea. Would trying to cut and propagate be a wise choice or should I leave it?
Just bought one!
Thank you!
Thank you I have been wondering if a monsteras had a smaller plant version. Is there also one that’s variegated and possibly the holes in there leaves?
I love mine but put its growing so slowly. I've waited over two months for one leaf and it is only just starting to unfurl. Its under a grow light and i water once a week. Any tips for faster growth?
Be patient. It might be setting roots and establishing its self. Especially if you just repotted. These do grow fairly quick once they are happy.
It should really pick up the growth by spring or summer!
is that a chiapense next to your tetrasperma at the back?
Does it climb the trellis by itself or do you tie it somehow?
Hi nick, mine is looking somewhat strange, the tip of leave turn yellow, any guess? And i have it for about a month, but i don’t see any new growth.
Maybe it is getting too much light?? My adansonii had some yelow tips so i moved them back from the window.. It worked for them!
Ur TT looks beautiful.. no clue y my leaves a droopy??? Maybe not enough lights
Is your plant tissue culture?
I was wondering what would you recommend for fertilizers ? Do you use soil amendments like wormcasting or do you use some sort of organic fertilizer or synthetic ferts??
I’m not very knowledgeable on fertilizer, I just use Espoma’s indoor organic during the growing season, fertilizing plants that are growing more rapidly more often than others who aren’t
@@NickPileggiPlants thanks for the tip 😎
Also what kind of soil do you have it in ?
Got her for 20 dollars at Lowe’s!
does anyone know why my Rhaphidophora tetrasperma has a bunch of brown dots on the leaf tips?
I'd love one of these, moreso than the monsters delisiosa, due to the space that I have.
Definitely a good one if you’re short on space!
