I live in SoCal, and yes, if I park outside it has a cover on it. Why? Well it would be covered in dust in about 15 minutes otherwise. Pollen bombs then get stuck on the paint. Birds play target practice. UV of course. There are indeed downsides, but if you regularly remove the cover and make sure its clean underneath, all is well.
Been thinking about getting a car cover for a while now since it hurts to see my car get pooped on or dirty every week from sitting outside, but since it's my daily it sees too much use for one IMO. Hope to see a follow-up vid where you show the durability and effectiveness of them in different weather!
I used to use a car cover on my Eunos Roadster to stop the paint getting damaged, then I found out that it causes the moisture to go underneath the car causing it to rust more easily as it gets trapped, I'd use one if the climate was dry e.g. in the summer but wouldn't use one during the winter months
It would actually be cool to do an A/B test. One car sitting covered for a year, one car sitting uncovered, and see if we can spot the differences in paint after a year.
@@HelloRoad But they have to be identical cars!!! How else would you compare them? So the next task: find 2 identical cars from the rad era for this test...
I just got a cover for my project car. We have horrid winters salt on the roads, n pine trees everywhere!!!! Also has a busted rear windshield I'm awaiting delivery on.
@kelemenkaban2505 The problem with that is, you just don't know how long the previous owner or you, if you owned them both, had them in the sun or other elements.
I cover my Miata while it's stored (inside) during winter. Honestly not sure what I'd do if I had to keep it parked outside while stored. Don't want it to be exposed to the elements, but don't want a cover that would blow around and rub the paint.
Yeah it's a tough call! Here in SoCal the sun completely roasts paint. Especially 1990s paint. The clear coat on my '98 Subaru got completely trashed in just 3 months in the sun. Depending on the car, I might be inclined to try the cover even if it does cause a few scratches. Hopefully the scratches would be small enough that they could be buffed out.
I park in the street and some of my street doesn’t have sidewalk but dirt n rocks. Some of the neighbors have backyards with nothing but dirt and they still have the urge to use a leaf blower in their dirt homes…. Anyways I have a black car and have to park near them. One day after a wash and there’s no more shine 😭
Crap! That sucks. Did you tie it down underneath the car? That has seemed to help the covers stay on in the wind. When I didn’t tie it down, I also did have a cover fly off. Also maybe the cover you got was slightly too big?
Don't forget to take care of the car's battery (and other minor maintenance) if you are going to cover/store the car for longer period of time, as car battery will be flat over time

Correct. My daily is actually a project car. 2.5 years of work. It's not watertight and my garage has another car inside. So while my actual daily is worked on, I drive the non watertight car. I have to keep waxing and washing it. If it rains then I can't use the car. The cover eventually gave out. It leaks at the stitches. I feel it's best to keep moisture from entering the vehicle, but I know that it's not good long term. Hence replacement windscreen is on my to do list ASAP. It's very hard to cover an outdoor stored daily. It requires time and effort that most folks haven't got. I am a petrolhead and collector, so to me it's worth the sacrifice. My cars are my children.
You look like the perfect target audience for 10 car covers. Too sad I am not an American UA-camr living in California who has 10 rad cars parking on his lot... :D
Up to you! Some people still cover their cars in their garage. Especially if you live in a dusty area, or if you have family members that like to put stuff on your car in the garage!

Can you do a follow up video on how well they've held up and how much the paint has been damaged by using them?

They make some very good fitting car covers. Got mine from Moss. If you keep a good layer of wax on your car there won't be rub issues.
The fun part is when I come home and my cover has been stolen. Now I just buy the cheapest ones
D’oh!
No wonder. We live close by 😂
It just looks so cool with all the covers on your car
When I used a car cover, I had a problem with cats jumping on car and pulling cover off. The cats would draw out there claws when cover was falling.
They sent you the wrong car cover for sun protection. The car cover you want are the ones with Reflective materials.

The test is what it will do over time in the different weather conditions.
Mann. I go through two pairs of socks with one car. I know you changed them at least 5 times 😂
I have a very similar cover and I use rocks to hold it down from the wind since one day it almost ended up in the road

@@HelloRoad It came with a thin string that didnt keep it in place so maybe it wasn't exactly the same cover but very similar
Bad idea, I put a brick on top of my car cover while it was on my car and the wind pulled it and scratched my hood bad
I meant I put rocks at the bottom of the cover on the ground and it def helps, it doesnt move.

I totally want to buy one, but I would be hesitant if it was like cheap. I would probably opt for One That’s like $100 or more.
If you live in SoCal, car covers are needed. Not for dirt or UV Rays, but because the snow! I hate socal snow.
Where in SoCal are you??
Awesome video, and that looks like a really durable car cover.
Sponsored content I can get behind! Actually, that cove fits your xB pretty well, something that i've struggled to find for mine

If you love your car I agree cover it
So for a car you drive everyday, should you not use one since you'd have to wash it every time before putting on the cover?

them old junks don't need covers.
@@user-sg8ek1yq8n I have them anyway
Thanks for the review
Be careful what car cover you use, some of them can hold moisture to the car and encourage rust
Is the Nova your garage queen?
Yep
So I have to wash my car every time I want to put a car cover over it? Only good for a car you don't drive.
thank you!

Will using a car cover allow mold or mildew to develop
Yes it is a possibility if the car is not completely dry when you put the cover on
Is this a universal fit?
They are not vehicle specific but they do have multiple sizes to better fit your particular car
What if the car is clean but the cover collected dust?
If you have a big enough washing machine, wash it on a gentle cycle. I’ve done that a couple times with good results
Thanks for the advice! I’ll try thay

so this video is just an ad for shitty car covers? lol, buy a real one that has proper ventilation and won't scratch your car
never buy a seal skin cover since they never fit and is way over priced. they got me twice so shame on me......
