That's not hard, a backed-up sewer runs rings around the crap today and for "younger" think anyone and EVERYONE up to Pariah Carey's age and down from that!
It is so amazing to see the brothers Mael getting their due. I've been a fan for 50 years (and was in their fan club in the mid-Seventies!) and said fandom has unwavered. Good on ya, Ron and Russell!
Yes they are so great and original. I saw the New York show the other night. My 14-yr-old kid was with me. He loves them. It was more than a great rock show. It was a life experience, not to be forgotten.
Make sure you get to know their two best early albums, "Kimono My House", (a true masterpiece) and "Propaganda" Their videos are just as awesome, my favorites right here on youtube are "Dick Around", "Perfume", "The Rythm Thief", and "When Do I Get to Sing My Way" Ron is a genius songwriter who could have easily written for Broadway, yet he wrote some real Bangers, too!
Listening to Sparks in this COVID distancing, staying in the apartment, people that obviously fallen and hit their damned heads hoarding toilet paper, month. Its better than going crazy and binge watching shows. Peace to all where ever you are right now. ✌🎶❤
I was introduced to them about three years ago when an Icelandic guy I barely know sent me a link to "Dick Around" over Facebook. I was hooked IMMEDIATELY. And very soon, Sparks became the reason I hate half my friends - in the week after getting that link on Facebook, I had the following conversation with more than one person: ME: Hey, I just discovered this awesome band, you have to check them out, they're incredible! They're called Sparks, and... FRIEND: Oh, yeah, I know Sparks! I love them, I've been listening to them for years! ME: Oh, really? OK. So...how long have we known each other? FRIEND: Uhh...dunno...twenty, maybe twenty five years? ME: And in all that time you never mentioned Sparks to me? I hate you, you are dead to me!
@@quasarsphere Don't judge that guy too harshly. A lot of Sparks fans gave up a long time ago trying, but welcome aboard. That's the wonderful thing - all newcomers are welcome into this world. I should know, I'm one of them.
This is a master class in (a)3 minute pop genius - never mind that it exceeds those brackets and (b)wonderful film clip smarts, plus (and always including) lyrical and humorous brilliance. Ron and Russell exceed on these and many other fronts. Smiles all around (aways a perfect pop result) Heartfelt thanks, R&R
Ron Mael made it clear in our interview that this song is not a dig at religion. Here's a quote: " It's more just a statement on people who feel that somebody else has to solve all of their problems. They can't do anything by themselves."
Aw, he ought not to have to make any statement about it. They're great artists, and anyone familiar with their work knows that they are the great wise-asses of ROCK, and would thus not be offended.
No. Not a dig at religion, but at some people in religion. If you think about it, it can be seen as a view on people only seeking prayer for answers. It's like the joke about a guy during a flood who prays for god to save him. A bus offers to take him to safety, but he declines saying God will save him. Then a boat comes by where he declines again. Then a helicopter. He proceeds to die and when he asks god why he didn't save him, he replies, "I sent you a bus, a boat, and a helicopter." Answers in front of them, and they choose to pray instead.
I am guessing Ron means it both ways, both taking a stab at religion and also those who are always victims. But if I were him, I might well say what he said :-)
"This is your Creator with a questionaire." When the subject of religion appears in their songs, the existence of God or Heaven is usually assumed, and used as a springboard for black comedy or as a foil for the absurdities of life on Earth. It doesn't imply any actual belief on the part of the songwriter.
If there was ever a song for the time period we live in now!. Sparks should've released this one for 2024 instead!. I reckon this is the theme for the year...great track and video!.
Been a fan since the number one song in heaven. It's come full circle, sort of. Great song and video by the greatest band on earth tonight, and every night.
I saw Sparks 1st time Fall 1974 on TV 📺 "In Concert" doing "Amateur Hour"..saw them live for the first time 2016 (Mpls. MN), and, they are still creating brilliant music and witty, satirical lyrics. Awesome song. Even my little girls love your new songs. Hope you will perform somewhere near us soon and where I can take my family, including my little girls as they love your music.
If you keep on keeping on and make intelligent, well crafted songs then sooner or later the wheel will come around. First top 10 album in 43 years. Oh yes.

Fantastic! I love that they've put more guitars in the mix. Not knocking Franz Ferdinand, but I want my Sparks plain. 40+ years of great music. Who else has done that?
@@jimdomi6206 None of those, as great as they are, have been anywhere near as consistently brilliant as Sparks have been over 50 years. What are any of those doing now? Just awesome aren't they? For God's sake, most artists lose it long before their first decades up and for Sparks to literally BE in their 70s and STILL being more pertinent than ever. Another single bang on the money, and embarrassing most others' attempts to be worthwhile.
