Yeah shielding the charge shot pushed him off the ledge cuz it was the left side of his shield that the projectile hit so it pushed the squirtle right

I think this summarises why the hazards off feature is probably the best feature for competitive play.

@@art2norrman872 What? Randal has a consistent movement pattern that is identical every single game. Good players can even look at the timer to know exactly where Randal is at any given moment.

Phantom hits (aka Glancing blows) are a thing in Brawl, Sm4ash, and Ultimate as well but the damage and hitlag have been reduced to 0 making it a purely visual effect

As a previous top Brawl Olimar player, that was indeed a glitch in Brawl that Shokio experienced around 14:30. I always called it at the time the 1/100 chance to just die as Olimar.

15:13 Squirtle perfect shielded Samus's charge shot on the first frame it came out. Because of this, the charge shot changed ownership, allowing Samus to just barely collide with it, losing the match.

Phantom hits (officially called "Glancing Blows" by Nintendo) actually occur in every smash title after Melee because the games use sphere's as hitboxes, in 64 they are cubes. They're more noticeable in melee because it still causes the freeze frames, effects, and damage while in other games they do not.
In later titles a glancing blow does no damage and is basically indistinguishable from a whiffed attack.

That squirtle play 15:50 was a perfect shield but before the frame count started up he grabbed, but Samus somehow hit the shield when it didn't come out; I've had that happen in Smash 4.
As a Robin player, I'm so glad Nosferatu in Ultimate no longer puts you into free-fall at the ledge

15:50 I think because when samus uses her charge shot it pushes her back a bit and has a delay before the shot actually fires and so because squirtle was behind her it pushed her into her own charge shot a few frames before it fired.

Yes, their was a power shield, but it was their for one frame so its hard to catch, if you want to see it settle the video to 15:34 and set the playback speed to 0.25× and you'll see it
