Sonic The Hedgehog Franchise Officially For Sale!? - Sony Offering To Buy Paramount

- The Sonic The Hedgehog movie franchise might be finding a new home! Sony and private-equity giant Apollo submitted a letter with the non-binding offer Wednesday to Paramount Global, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The bid, which would include the assumption of debt and could be negotiated, would be a premium over the company’s current $22 billion enterprise value. The tag-teamed buyout bid comes as Paramount Global board’s special committee established to consider M&A proposals is evaluating the best and final offer from Skydance Media to merge Paramount and Skydance while keeping Paramount Global public. Shari Redstone, the controlling shareholder of Paramount Global, is known to prefer consummating a deal with David Ellison’s Skydance, whose bid is backed by RedBird Capital Partners and KKR. For my reaction, my thoughts, and what this means for the Sonic franchise moving forward, watch this video today!

Would you be okay with the Sonic rights going to Sony? 🧐
No.
Uhhh.... no...
SHIT No.
I want other Sega movies besides Sonic after Sonic 3. If Sony gives me that, I'm happy.
Yea
It’s Sony’s fault for giving Sonic to Paramount when they still had it just cause they didn’t care about it at the time. Now they’re basically jealous of Paramount because of it and they should be imo. CRY ABOUT IT SONY!
I blame sony fot this.
@@mayracordero382 I agree. Also, Sony owned enough studios like Columbia, TriStar and Screen Gems.
lol so true XD You don't know what you have until you lose it. :P
Sony was the same company who rejected buying all the other superheroes from marvel other than Spider-Man for $20M because “no one cares about them”, you can’t trust these guys with stuff cause they’ll sell it or ignore it then when something good comes of it they cry
yeah yeah petty business drama but like imagine this... spiderverse style sonic movie trilogy??!!
Sony already had their chance, and they decided to give it to Paramount. Literally! Sony initially had the rights to the movies, but after a string of box office failures, placed it in turnaround in 2017 and Paramount got all of Sony's options to the movie, including staff and cast.
Yeah, SONIC was originally brought by Sony, but then went on turnaround, brought by Paramount, 1st movie got made, released and the rest is history.
So giving Sonic back to Sony make no sense.
All because tom rothman didn't understand the character and franchise so by his definition he thought it was worthless to him. Just like what he did to deadpool when he was at fox.
@@WavesBland26 What makes you say that?
Yeah, I think Sony regrets making that choice.
@@limelion24 they have their own hero, Spider-Man, so having Sonic is too much
Variety just confirmed, that Paramount is unhappy with Skydances last and best offer to merge, but they won‘t sell the Company either, so yeah Paramount will stay for a while with us.
Thank god
The New York Times just reported 30 minutes ago that Paramount has now officially opened a talk with Sony. They have confirmed that they want to explore the Sony deal first before doing anything, so there is still a chance that Sony will get Paramount.
@@LeonWagg They have to consider the offer. Otherwise their shareholders threatened to sue them. And what do I mean by 'consider'? What I mean is they have to bring it to a vote. Shari Redstone was unlikely to vote in favor of the deal when Skydance was still a thing, but now that that bridge is irrevocably burned, who can say?

No, absolutely not! We cannot allow an awesome franchise of Sonic the Hedgehog be handed over to a movie corporation aka Sony Pictures that destroys beloved franchises like the MCU (outside the Spiderverse movies) and Smurfs. Please Paramount, stand your ground and do not let this happen.
Sony doesn't make MCU movies, they only make spider-man movies.
@@AutZentus I was using the Spiderman movies as a example. I didn't say they make MCU movies.
@@RacgoonGamer967 The MCU spider-man movies aren't that bad. Yeah far from home wasn't very good but no way home and the first movie homecoming were great.
Potential upside: animated movie.
More likely downside: bad live action reboot
i mean the spider verse movies were amazing, i could see them coming up with a crazy sonic movie that does well
Look how post MCU Sony massacred Spider Man (outside of Spider Verse) absolutely not 😩
What if it was animated like spiderverse and they got all the Sonic lore correct? That’d be hype af honestly.

I think you may be Right buddy…..
They will either ruin it or make it as good as spiderverse...
@@Azrael3176spiderverse is overrated.
I agree. Sonic should stay at Paramount forever. Sony already has Spider-Man, so they don't need another hero under the belt. What were the executives thinking?
Shut up its not @@johngonzalez2495
Even if the deal happens and the Sonic franchise ends up another Studio, let's be grateful that we at least got a great trilogy of films finishing off near the end of the year.
Sony tryna start milking Sonic movies because they’re failing badly with Spiderman lately 😂
don't do this paramount, please
I really hope Sony doesn't buy Paramount!
As long as they keep the people who are working on the Sonic Movies in place I am ok with them being bought. People like Jeff Foler and the writers are what make the movies sucessful. The Sonic Cinematic Universe has a lot of potential so they better know what they are doing. The quality is important and I hope they can keep the quality really good as they make several more movies.
The problem with Sony buying Paramount is that regulators will likely break up the company. So hopefully Paramount Pictures can stay with Sony.
If Paramount Pictures stays with Sony, Neil and Toby will likely remain as the producers. Not sure about Jeff Fowler, but if they're smart, they'll leave him there and not fix what isn't broken.
Sony before the movie: Paramount, can you take this? I don't want it anymore.
Sony after the new *franchise*: Can you give me it back, I kinda want it again.
HOLD UP WAIT MINUTE, WERE DEAD
"SOFIA!!! I live above the garage!! I'm ALIVE! damit! I'm ALIVE!!!
Cant wait for Spider Man VS Madame Web Vs Sonic The HEDGEHOG!
there's 2 scenarios that could come of Sony's acquiring of Paramount/The Sonic Movie franchise
1. the ruination of the Sonic movie franchise that's to obviously be expected considering Sony Pictures' recent track record with film, and the ending of the film franchise + damaging the Sonic brand as a whole
or
2. they pull a Spider-verse and create a fully animated Sonic movie in a rebooted timeline (or in the same movie timeline) that is a masterpiece of animation, and would likely expand the Sonic franchise further in visual media beyond the games
You do know sony was the one that originally had the film rights to sonic until tom rothman put it on turn around to the point of going to paramount right? What we've gotten from paramount since the first movie with cast and crew was left over from sony. Paramount picked up the pieces and moved forward with it.
@@AutZentus i know the story, but what they did then doesn't equate what they've been doing now. considering their recent track record, i'm just saying it's better to be cautious if Sony goes through with purchasing Paramount.
@@TheRealGenm Yeah I agree. I don't trust sony either. They suck with making movies. They've ran spider-man into the ground to the point of collabing with marvel/disney to keep him alive, ghostbuster had a bad start with the 2016 movie that not only nearly kill the brand but it was also a movie nobody asked for, men in black ain't coming back after international from 2019 failed. At this point sony should just stop making movies.
True, I think that if they wanted to make a Sonic cinematic universe, the best way is to make it animated, so they are not so limited to costly and time consuming Cgi. Can you imagine a Sonic movie but with the Spiderverse style?
@@Xenox02-vu9rq personally i think it'd be cool if they did something similar to Spider-verse (2D/3D hybrid) but rather than do a comic style, do the Yuji Uekawa Adventure Style or something similar
I'm not sure if Sony doing this is right or wrong.
I think it’s wrong. I think Sony is just jealous of Paramount’s success with Sonic and are most likely regretting giving Sonic up to Paramount and they basically made Paramount successful again because of it so I think it’s mostly due to jealousy, regret and lost potential
@@Silverthefuture468exactly Sonys just jealous that paramount is being successful than them so they just have to suck it up
It's wrong. Sony's recent solo live action movies are:
•Morbius
•Madame Web
•Uncharted
•Ghostbusters Afterlife
•Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.
The MCU Spiderman movies don't count as they are in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Disney.
@@Starrmonster02 Yeah, they can cry me a river for all I care. They had tons of potential and they just threw it away. But then again, would Sonic really be as successful as it is now even if Sony kept Sonic?

Great video, Ricardo. I appreciate you sharing this info. I very much do not want SONY to get the Sonic movie rights. If it were up to me, they would go to Universal, so Sonic could be in the theme parks and maybe even cross-over with Mario on the big screen someday.
First Warner Bros, and now Sony? If Paramount rejects again, there’s only a matter of time until Disney tries to buy them.
I mean it would all come full circle since sony originally had the rights to make a sonic movie.
Yes but sony rejected sega but now since the sonic movies have been doing amazing they now want it just for the money
@@Scorbunny318they want it just for money? Um obviously, that’s how business works kid. 💀💀
@@RafzCampz Yeah but they're going to half ass the movies just to make that money like they always do. You know sony has always sucked with making movies right? Other than a few hidden gems they mostly suck.
If Sony buys Paramount get ready for Morbius vs Sonic The Dawn of Madame Web.
Please 😡 🙏 don't let happen. Paramount needs to be owned at Skydance because Skydance is a much better choice for Paramount considering that they made some movies together.
Then what about paramount plus will the films and shows just not be there anymore?
WHAT?! That's just Crazy
Sony buying paramount can be a win for me. I don't have paramount so if Sony buys paramount they will probably put some stuff on Netflix like the sonic movies.
SONY NO! LEAVE SONIC ALONE!
Fun fact, the Paramount Sonic franchise was originally going to be produced by Sony. But at that time Sonic as a franchise was dying and they just gave up on the franchise.
From where did you buy all those sonic figures. If there is a site where you can buy them, can you please tell me.
Both Sony and Sega are based in Tokyo, so yeah, I think they may have a better relationship. And since as we have seen with Sonic, Super Mario Bros, The Last of Us, Fallout and Knuckles, all see major success, I think Sony knows that video game adaptations are the next big trend and they will want to own the best brands to adapt, they already own the PlayStation, they made a deal with Nintendo to make a Legend of Zelda movie, so having Sonic would be a big boost to the company, I can see this like the golden era of when Marvel was bought by Disney, not the same situation, but similar. I can see us getting 10 years more of major Sonic content, an alliance between Sony and Sega Sammy would bring a new prosperous age for the Sonic fandom. More movies, more shows, more comics, more toys and more games, just imagine how much content we will have by the time we celebrate Sonic's 40th anniversary.
I'm Okay With Sony Could Might Handle Sonic Movie Franchise, Since Some Sonic Fans Wanted More Sonic Characters And Lore In The Movies And Shows Not Like Adding Human Characters Just Like Knuckles Series Did!
I guess that means i will miss Amy & Rouge Voice actors coming back from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) 😥😢😭
I’m worried if Sony gets their hands on Sonic movies, because I remember back in the 2010s, Sony said they’d release a Sonic film every year. What if they still want to do that?
I really hope that instead of making unnecessary spin offs (madame web, morbius like movies) they could make a spider-verse animated style sonic movie at sony
I don't think everything has to be spider verse style but who knows
Sony already owns Columbia, TriStar, and Screen Gems, they don't need to be owning another studio, I don't understand why Paramount Global is agreeing to sell the studio to a different parent company, what has happened to Hollywood nowadays 🙄
Paramount is in almost bankruptcy
@@Soplox I know that Paramount is almost in bankruptcy, but do they really think that selling the studio is a better option...I don't think so.
Because those additional billions above market value are being paid to the execs making the decision? Like every other corporate merger.
And Sony Classical, stage 6 Films, Crunchyroll, 3000 Pictures. In Japan, they have Aniplex who owner of A-1 Pictures and Cloverworks.
Absolutely not! Sonic is just fine at Paramount, if Sony buys , the movies will nose dive in quality.
(If this is true )*sticks cigar in mouth* Welp we had a good run boys! Enjoy it….
5:45 The only reason the new Transformers movie didn't make as much money as it should have was because it was released in a month unusually PACKED with other Hollywood blockbusters, and even then it still made decent money, but if it was released in a less packed time it would have made more
sony really went
"Nah we don't want the the Sonic Movie anymore, paramount you take it.
..actually never mind, i want it back."
I really hope Paramount is able and does request Sony’s offer
Paramount be wise again and don’t make the offer your already doing a amazing job with the sonic movies don’t screw yourselves up 😣
I can't imagine they'd handle the movies any different, they're already very by-the-numbers films. But if they announce their animation departments are doing a 2d/cgi Sonic movie then I'm on board. Spiderverse + Sonic ? Yes, I want to see that.
He researching hedgehog in the Amazon with my mom when she died
I honestly wish Paramount had no intentions of selling themselves to Sony or whatever this "Skydance" company is. There's so many shakeups that could happen with a merger like this.
If they made a Sonic Movie game after Sony buys Paramount, there's a chance that it will be PlayStation exclusive which isn't very fair.
NO!!!
DONT LET SONY BUY SONIC!!!
IF THEY GET THEIT HANDS ON HIM,ITS GONNA BE MORBIUS ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!
Don't you mean
•Morbius
•Madame Web
•Uncharted
all over again?
That doesn't mean that's what will happen. They won't own Sonic anyway. Sega owns Sonic. Sony would make movies or tv shows based on Sonic, but that's probably it. Morbius was only because Sony was scraping the bottom of the barrel for Spider-Man IPs to compete with Disney's side of Marvel movies and it failed. Morbius isn't that well known compared to the other villains in Spider-Man's rogues gallery. The internet jumped the band wagon to make fun of it without knowing the history of the character. That's annoying as a Marvel fan.
I think paramount can keep it
Don't hurt Ghostbusters.
But I agree we should be weary. This could suck for sonic.
I think Sony focuses more on their more successful franchise like Spider-Man but they do have James Bond. They really do so well because Sony focus more on those movies for big teams and just doesn’t do so well with their other franchises. A lot of things could happen to Sonic as they consistently do financial year after year and that way it could inspire Paramount to get more people to work on other projects. Obviously Transformers, Mission Impossible are on a rough edge but I have faith that Paramount can make a grand comeback for their movies. All they just need is time and attention so that way they’ll be more profitable. I liked some of their movies from last year and well even though they weren’t big hits, they still keep up with how consistent in quality they are with each release. Meanwhile movies like Ghostbusters, Madame Web, Venom and Morbius is clearly just creative control Sony has done and it’s sad to say that we’re kinda approaching the 2010s era when they put out stuff like the Smurfs, Open Season and The Emoji Movie. We’ve seen what has happened to companies merging together and we do not need anymore mergers, Disney has already done that with Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox and now Sony’s doing it. It’s pretty safe to say that they we’ll just go down like Disney.
Nah, they already missed their chance. We can’t let this one slide boys.
Nah we’re good guys, not even the dumbest company ever would except this deal.
IM worried about this being bought by sony as they made morbius but im also a bit undure about warner bros as these might be a deadly stand still.
They also made Mitchells vs. the Machines and Into The Spiderverse... it really isn't that bad. Morbius bombed because of a bad director.
Sony also made Madam Web 💀
Okay Sony made two good movie and two horrible movies, does anyone know any WB movies or shows that are good/moderate/downright bad?
@@IAMYOLO2020 Sony didn't make Madam Web; it was Columbia Pictures that did and Sony only distributed it. Madam Web sucked because the producer hired a director who lied about being an MCU fan (she didn't even see any of the movies), so she wrote most of the movie without knowing much of the source material.
@@Cheetahcat-1128 I know WB produced DCEU movies, but they're pretty polarizing. It depends on who you talk to; some people love them, others hate them. They also produced The Matrix, the first two movies were good but after that, kinda mediocre.
Oh, and there was Birds of Prey, the Harley Quinn movie that lost to Sonic in the box office lol
Shit, Sonic is being the monkey in the middle, or in this case "hedgehog in the middle" 💀
Or the test monkey
Rather ironic that Sony of all companies is doing this considering their past attempt in regards to the long road to the first Sonic movie.
If Sony promised to make an animated Sonic cinematic universe with attractive animation like the Spiderverse, then maybe I would support it.
Paramount rejected Warner Bros.'s offer, and they'll to the same to Sony.
Sonic had his start in 2D, so I honestly think(beyond being a 2d animation buff) that his movie being more like an anime movie with hand-drawn animation would fit better than a cgi film. Not to mention we haven't had a major 2D film in the US since, what, The Princess Frog? I think it's time for them to make a comeback. Not to mention, despite the animation quality rollercoaster that was Sonic X, he still emoted leagues better than he does in the games.
Sony has much more cash to burn, if Sonic 3 is a box office hit, then you will see a headline like "Sony announces Sonic 4, an animated movie and a new animated series." Sony Pictures Animation seems like a good home for Sonic honestly. At least now..
This is not the same Sony Animation that made Emoji Movie. This is the Oscar winning studio that now has the employment if not leadership of Genndy Tartakovsky, Phill Lord and Christopher Miller. If they buy Paramount, their animated studio will have so many more brands they can tackle and turn into movies and games.
Sony is jealous as hell bro
Keep things the way they are. I don't want Sony fumbling with not only Sony, but TMNT n Avatar too
I was kinda wishing Sony would buy out the games. Quality control would be so much better…
Dude paramount is already doing a good job with the franchise. Sony leave this peak franchise alone😭🙏
That is crazy! For 26 billion dollars?!?!
Did I hear him say he would like the WHOLE of Sonic to be owned by Paramount? WTF??
Oh no. Rights of sonic belong to Sega. All rights.
@ Of course I know, but in a part he said he would prefer for Paramount to own Sonic and right afterwards he says they only own the rights to the movies; therefore meaning he would actually like the WHOLE Sonic (videogames and all) to be owned by Paramount
It makes sence since Sega have bought Rovio Entertainment (developers of Angry Birds) last year and Sony distributed the Angry Birds movies. So of course Sony Pictures would like the Sonic movie franchise too.
Will Sega still have a partnership with per amount
I’d only be okay with Sonic’s film rights going to Sony if it was only for animation and their live action branch wasn’t allowed anywhere near it, I don’t wanna see them announcing a Zavok the Zeti solo movie where Sonic doesn’t appear
Can’t wait for snively the movie where no one else from the franchise is mentioned once besides an eggman logo that only appears in the trailers
I hope if they do get bought they keep the character designs and characters and continue the story instead of just starting again
Since Sony is from Japan, there shouldn't be a problem.
No one is done with the video yet
this will either be the best decision ever or the worst decision ever. no in between
Didn't Sonic originally was gonna be my Sony pictures 10 years ago? Because that's about what the studio did announced
I don't know much about Skydance, but I'd rather Paramount, Sonic and the Ninja Turtles be owned by them than Sony.
Guys. Sony wants to buy Paramount, not Sonic, Paramount would still make the Sonic Movies.
Under Sony's rule and final say.
It's still a problem considering the most recent movies made by Sony
@@IAMYOLO2020Yeah, because Sony has a long history of filmmaking interference. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3. These two are prime examples of how pathetically incompetent and outright stupid Sony is.

So true
I would be 100% okay with Sony buying Paramount.
Hold up, ima buy it real quick…
Sydance is offering $2 Billion. Sony is offering $26 Billion. But Shari Redstone has the ultimate say in whether they go with Sony or Skydance, and regulators are starting to make noise about this now.
Update: The deal with Skydance expired. So Sony's the only one on the table at this point, unless someone else comes along.
Do NOT sell to Sony AT ALL
We going MCU with this one🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
Does that even mean anything
Well Warners Bros actually did great series like for now there's ''My Adventures with Superman'' and it's actually really good, like the animation, like a complete anime. So if they come up at Paramount, It could be a good risk if you know what I mean
I hope paramount doesn't let sony buy them out. Sony should just stick to doing their own stuff
I don’t think this will change anything. If a franchise succeeds (financially and critically) companies will stick with it for the money. Sony keeps shifting with Spider-Man projects because they aren’t always successful. With a successful franchise already handed to them, it may be different.
If Sony buys Paramount, we’re screwed, and so are they.
I agree
I feel so worry now. What happen if the upcoming sonic movie with Sony company made a same big mistake like Madame Web.
If the Movies start being bad then the only thing keeping sonic afloat will be the games and we all know how that goes
Sony would see the profitability of keeping the Sonic franchise alive, as you said Knuckles had the highest viewership ratings on Paramount+ beating Halo and Star Trek. And if Sonic 3 is as big a hit as I feel it will be and makes over $500 million worldwide. You can bet that Sony is going to keep it alive, and since they are Tokyo based, I feel they are in an easy position to renegotiate with Sega Sammy for at least 3 more movies, who knows. Best case scenario, any time we do get a tv series it won't be low budget, we might get a Tails spin off on Netflix. Sony right now is in a position to become a leader in the movie industry, if this deal works, they will have all they need to enter the new era as a leader. Imagine this deal goes thru, Sony will have made movie deals with Nintendo and Sega!
9:40 Keep Things The Way They Are!!!!
