Love your sense of humor in this video. I keep golden white cloud minnows with my musk turtle (Wendell). He can't catch 'em for now. Either way, he's getting his exercise in daily.
As a fish keeper (well more of a hobbyists researcher) I agree with the information presented, all helpful and accurate Great tip for the goldfish vs livebearers in particular! I personally don’t approve of the idea of live fish as feeders, but livebearers over goldfish any day
my turtle lives harmoniously with my comet goldfish. it helps that the goldfish are nearly as big if not bigger than the turtle. they dont seem to bother each other much, and i get to leave them outside year round in my stock tub setup
As someone with an eastern long neck turtle (a carnivorous species) the only suitable fish is livebearers, They’re small, an infinite food glitch and completely safe for the turtle.
When I had a turtle as a kid in the 80s-90s (red eared slider named Raph, yes because of TMNT) we did feeders, (which I don't claim to think this was good or not, I'm just sharing a funny story) Raph had maybe 3 braincells he could rub together on most days, and some of the feeders could EASILY outmaneuver him. If they lived for more than a week, they got promoted to my grandma's fish tank (huge, basically a small pond, was outside our garage) I remember one of those feeders living for several years and being nearly a foot long. They lived happy lives out there. and you'd never expect them to get so big or live that long
I keep fish with my large turtles and small turtle. I have convict cichlids with my large turtles, they are basically the guppy equivalent of a cichlid. They reproduce like rabbits and the turtles eat the babies but I only recommend them with turtles larger than they are. They aren’t super aggressive with the turtles, mostly just the other fish. If you want something a little smaller and less aggressive and more attractive, I’d recommend kribensis cichlids. They reproduce a lot too. I’ve got gambusia with my smaller turtle and he eats the babies. I like them more than other live bearers because their mouths are usually too small to eat their own babies, plus they are even cheaper and they’re a silvery color so they don’t take away from any decor or natural aesthetic of your tank but I may be adding some colorful live bearers down the line. Gambusia are just really hardy which can be hard to find with live bearers since a lot of them are inbred, plus they reproduce more and it’s easier to tell when they’re gravid. It’s really good for enrichment and natural diets and exercise. I like that my turtles don’t just have to sit in a boring tank all day and can chase something or look at them.
When my turtles were less than a year old they definitely went after the fish until they got all of them. Now they are about 2.5 years old and literally do nothing when the fish swim right in their faces 😂 They will eat the tiny fish babies when its convenient for them though
I have guppies in all of my turtle tubs and tanks. That’s 8 in total. 7 of them have hundreds at this point. The one without is the alligator stapper hatchlings tub so yeah… Outdoor turtles have rice fish or native fish like rudd with native turtles.
I once put 10 neon-tetra in my turtle tank. My boy, 2 months old ate al of them within 2 weeks. Now i am working on a 130 gallon tank. It is huge so the fish have a chance to escape. It's not going to help but i bought 2 more turtles. A big tank with enough hiding places for the beautifull little fish. I don't won't them to be exterminated. I get to attached to them ;) I don't have a farm, just a dude enjoying the creatures i am dealt with :D
1:07 My Mississippi Map ate all $150-worth of livebearers in a week. Most expensive snack ever. I have success with Buenos Aires tetras and pearl danios.
My turtle is very kind and sweat above water. In the water however, he’s an absolute psychopath. Fish? Tracked down to no end and eaten. Plants? What are those? Sounds like more food. Artificial plants? Looks like a snack. Artificial cave? Bite marks throughout. And he’s not starved. Eastern painted btw.
Hey brotha I added some guppies in my tubs do you run any aeration stones for the fish or do you just have filters and heaters running in there, I made a filter that pours water back in so it agitates the surface guessing that’ll be enough o2 for the guppies but figured I’d ask what you do for that… I’ve got a heater and filter no live plants no air pumps… lmk! 👍🏼🤝🏻
Maybe this is mean, but I can't stand that my turtle didn't... dispose of the goldfish that I put in his tank when I first got him. Those things got HUGE and are STILL ALIVE. I wish I'd known they weren't good for turtles before I got them. 😭
Hi! New mud turtle mom here 🙋🏻♀️ I just got fat heads and ghost shrimp to feed my turtle cuz he hasn’t been eating (to my knowledge) and I’ve had him for 5 days now. I really don’t want him to die LOL any tips? I have him floating pellets but he’s not interested 😢
My turtles kills any living thing in his tank. He kills them all at once and eats a bite of them. It’s terribly messy and messes up the filters. He is a killer with no remorse 😢
love all the videos u make Dan,ive learned a lot from ur videos! i got permission to get a turtle but have to do my research before i buy one! thinking of a Southern Male Painted baby turtle! can anyone let me know if morphmarket, the breeder (Cliffside Reptiles) is a safe one to use? im been looking around and some of the places around me (IRl) dont have any stock of the southern Painted turtles right now. any help is very much appreciated! thanks!
But now I keep a 150 gallon saltwater tank which has a pair of clownfish an eel some snails and cleaner shrimps with butterflyfish and my turtles live in a 10 gallon tank. And yes I keep maintenance in both of my tanks

Cooters are great since theyre veggie eaters. My old pen. Cooter won’t even chase minnows or guppies

I’m a turtle nerd because I’m trying to get a turtle but I don’t know anything about turtles but then my favourite pet

HAHAHA many people share your sentiment! Seeing feeder fish become people’s unwanted pets is kinda hilarious
We got two feeders that we did as a trial run, as well as two dozen ghost shrimp. We keep having to buy more shrimp, but the two feeders remain.
I have a snapping turtle so…yeah. Maybe bait minnows someday
Ok so I can have a baby with with my guppy’s - cause I can’t give these babies away 😂
Hi I have a turtle and he likes to eat fish and worms and pellets and he likes to hunt the fish down😊
I keep fish with my turtles. The fish are actually pretty quick. Lol so they actually have been just chilling with her for several months now.

I love mosquito fish in with mine.
Last time my two red eared slider turtle ate a black moor goldfish.
And they are psychopaths.
A while ago my mom bought 2 plecos for the turtle tank and not even a day later my 1 year old res obliterated both of them
Will it be okay to let a common snapping turtle share a tank with asian box turtle?
No
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ Thank you!
Well my turtle is so sweet he does not hunt any fish.
