    Thanks for sharing. We are getting into line breeding. I've been looking at options for breeding trios.
    Pet shops are out!!
    Not crazy about buying expensive fish sight unseen ( Ebay ).
    At least at the IFGA shows we can bid on placed, or show breeders. Actually talk to the breeders. Information is a must.
    Another plus to me is..... all the showers are here with the best of the best in their fish breeding program.
    We are looking forward to next year's Doop South Show, which is less than 50 miles from the house.

    You could go collect microbes in a creek or stream and put them into your tank. Your guppies will love it and you'l never have to feed them again. My guppies are even plus size. Don't forget to feed the microbes some dead leaves.

    Why are females Guppies from the store (pet smart) so colorful? All my females that i have bred are grey with a colorful tale. My females never have a full colored body. Anyone know why?

    Being from Trinidad, collecting guppies as a child was a very common occurrence 😉.
    And we do have more varieties than what John Guppy took to England all those years ago.
    The most common variety is one that was referred to as the 'seven colours'...multicoloured and small it may very well be an Endler.

      I don't care what variety of guppy I have, as long as it doesn't have a black waist and tail, but does have the rainbow colors & those spots (preferably multiple spots).

    Because their species names differ, wingei (endlers) and reticulata (guppies) aren't the same species. They are in the same genus because they share the same genus name, Poecilia. This system is especially important when breeding as taxonomic charts will coincide with naming conventions to show their DNA similarities. Conversely, the further they are taxonomically the more difficult it will be to produce hybrids. There are different BREEDS of guppies that are all Poecilia reticulata (in the same species). And just like dog breeds, these breeds of guppies will produce viable offspring.

      It is a good point and yes they have been designated distinct species, but Heiko Bleher's argument is that they should not have been presented to the Smithsonian as separate species and the governing board there should not have recognized them as separate species. He believes they are the same, just one is a smaller variation of the other. But in the end he loses the argument, they get to keep their species names.

    Recently added guppies to my community tank and suddenly I am in love with them. The Tequila Sunrise guppies added so much color and top swimming that my tank needed. This is a great video it is very helpful to see the various colors so I can plan a future addition or maybe a whole new tank.

    I heard some breeders are more protective of their lines if they know you’re a breeder. Try ordering thru a friend to a different address. One breeder in Australia got females of a rare pleco that way.

    There’s no physical difference between guppies based on geographic differences, only reason for differences between countries would be Asian countries using brackish water

    • @ChadGardenSinLA
      @ChadGardenSinLA 9 місяців тому +2

      That's not true. Allopatric speciation exists with ALL living species, especially guppies. Additionally there is scientific research that contradicts your statement and the video from the channel Fishtory, explains it all in, "Guppy History & Mindblowing New Research on Guppies Genetic Ability To Choose Their Pattern & Color"

    • @sambonedallas
      @sambonedallas 9 місяців тому

      @@ChadGardenSinLA allopathic specification is from isolation over time hundred if not thousands of years, Asian breeding of guppies is a 21 century trend, Moscow guppies in Thailand aren’t different from geography but genetic crossing of lines
