Miserlou was way ahead of its time as played by Dick Dale. It’s the heaviest song you played and the earliest. The contribution of instrumental surf gets overlooked. Many that went on to become rock gods can point back to the instrumental surf as what got them playing.

You had bad guitar teachers if they told you so. Look at the guitar virtuosos and you will see that none of them holds the guitar perpendicular to the body like the guy in the video does. And you don’t even need to have a guitar to understand why. Due to the fact that he holds neck so close to himself, he has to pull back his left elbow and his arm is constantly tense. Due to this positioning of the guitar, his right elbow, on the contrary, bulges forward at this crazy angle. Again, he holds his whole right arm in suspense instead of just resting it on the cutout of the guitar, which is there specifically for this. Thats why his alternate picking is bad - instead of playing Misirlou by moving his wrist only, while the relaxed forearm rests on the guitar, not only his whole arm but his body is shacking like he is having a seizure due to tension in his arm and shoulder.

@@theali8oras274 It doesn't as long as you're playing entry level stuff. But when you get to the certain level of speed and difficulty you just have to hold guitar and pick in the right way if you don't want to sound like a total mess or your hand to fall of mid gig.

3:03 “Wild Thing" (1966). Your Timeline is out by 9 years.
"Wild Thing" was originally recorded and released by The Wild Ones in 1965.
The Troggs released a cover of "Wild Thing" in 1966.
"Wild Thing" uses a very similar chord progression to "Louie Louie”.
The Troggs recorded a version of "Louie Louie" for their 1966 From Nowhere album.
Richard Berry and the Pharaohs recorded and released "Louie Louie" as the B-side to their cover of "You Are My Sunshine" in 1957.
