      All WB/DC saw were the $$$ over at Marvel Studios. Gotta chase that dollar.... WB's been chasing that cash cow since their mega-franchises of Batman, Neo, and Harry Potter ended their runs.

    I thought that Suicide Squad's trailer was an embarrassing attempt by Warner Bros. to copy the Guardians of the Galaxy's tone and was immediately uninterested in the movie. It is pretty baffling that they would have Ayer, a man who wrote and directed a really brutal and ugly war movie that worked, write and direct this film while trying to inject levity. Fury made me feel terrible at times. He obviously knows how to do gritty well.

      the new GB was cringe inducing. it does to the franchise what Michael Bay has done to Transformers...turned it into a cheap side show for all the Twizzler suckers out there. that that movie landed a fresh rating on RT is evidence to me of one of two things: either RT is a pay-to-win scam...or it is fueled by morons.

      FWIU, the production quality dropped when the writers split off during the creation and establishment of The Flash in 2014 leaving the Arrow writers with a complete outline of Season 3 and a brief for Season 4, which was modified heavily by the new crew of writers.
      As writing further split during the creation of Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, Guggenheim took the reins that Kreisberg left as he moved EP'ing LoT/Supergirl. Due to the nature of co-filming 4 series, a lot of production is borrowed /co-produced.
      This also means that Season 5 Arrow is completely off-book from the original plot and writing direction, even more so than Season 4. This also extends to fight choreography and production resources which were moved to the better performing Flash series, and later LoT/Supergirl.
      Season 4 is often referred to as Felicity and Friends, or Olicity, which was developed in Season 3 as a counterweight to the character's relationship change, and perhaps meddling from Berlanti to increase the "Olicity" focus in Season 4.
      In general, Season 4 changes character writing to an enormous extent, and reduces fight choreography to drama scenes, for a show that's ostensibly ... a vigilante that shoots arrows is reduced to a handful of episodes in the season. Women in the series are now attached to characters romantically for reasons that weren't present in Season 3, the villain is disconnected from the plot. and the death of a main character is used for tension, culminating in a poorly made fist fight at the end of the series, and a nuclear explosion that has likely no repercussions.
      In general, the underwhelming plot of Season 4 likely has more to do with the expansion of female writers under Guggenheim and showrunner Berlanti, who often tries to cater to the network.
      Without input from the writers into what resources went where, it's hard to pin down a catalyst other than Guggenheim, who is at the helm of Arrow.

    I went to see Suicide Squad yesterday and the reviews are completely justified. It's a more entertaining film than BvS but the story is a mess, the editing is horrible, and some of the dialog was cringey. I liked Harley but some of her jokes fell flat. Mainstream critics are generally not comics fans and that probably contributes to the low score as some of the interactions, especially between Joker and Harley, make no sense unless you already know those characters and understand their history.

      Honestly even knowing their history doesn't help. In the comics and animated series their relationship is consistently portrayed as abusive. Joker doesn't give a shit about Harley but she still keeps coming back to him because of his manipulation. Suicide Squad made it actual lovey dovey shit instead. making this version of the Joker so far removed from the actual Joker that it just isn't the Joker at all.

      Yeah, it wasn't good. I actually gave the movie a chance this morning and went to the first screening, and boy did I leave sour. Not as sour as I did with BVS, but still pretty ticked. I fully expected this to be the DC movie of the year, the one that would kick the DCEU off right, but with lackluster characters that had no chemistry, weak action sequences, and a villain so weak it put Ronan to shame, it just left me with very little. I did enjoy the little bit of Batman we got though and Harley, while not exactly how I imagined her, was pretty fun to watch, but that's really about it.

    I really liked the film. It's not perfect, but it's still a lot of fun. And while I don't believe that the critics are being paid by Marvel I do believe they seem to have a natural aversion towards DC. This movie does not deserve the hate just like how Ghostbusters did not deserve the praise.

      Mario Orta I didn't just _assume_ it's bad. I watched it. And it was a monumental piece of shit. Why do you think no one has watched it? Because word of mouth has spread, that's why.

    • @burcolclone8322
      @burcolclone8322 8 років тому

      Dreadjaws yeah, but the film has been trashed by basically everyone and I just feel that people are just hating on it because everyone else does. People like you who have actually seen it have all the right in the world to bash it and say that it sucks, but everyone else should just not watch it if they please, but also don't be sheep and say that is bad when is not their opinion but someone else's.

    • @Dreadjaws
      @Dreadjaws 8 років тому

      Mario Orta For every person who bash it because of a trend there's people who praise it for the same reason. Look at the positive reviews and you'll see the same lack of objectivity that there are in the negative ones.

    • @burcolclone8322
      @burcolclone8322 8 років тому

      Dreadjaws the positive reviews just state opinions for the most part, so I wouldn't want to say that they are being biases since I haven't watched it myself. Although there's this Roxana Hadadi bitch who is using the misogynist card and is being totally biased. There are people who are going to be like that but I doubt that everyone is being bias. Heck, some of the critics I trust from UA-cam like NC or Stuckmann say that is just meh, not good but not really abysmally bad.
      So of course they are going to be people that are biased like women that would be over praising it, but I believe that there are also people just giving their honest opinion.

    • @sunbro6998
      @sunbro6998 8 років тому +2

      Yeah, DC does need to do their own thing. Even though they are comic books, they are a bit different than marvel. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are Legends, mythic heroes, while I have always viewed Marvel as more common man and the smaller details of life.

    • @MichaelAarons1701
      @MichaelAarons1701 8 років тому

      They also try to go completely one way or the other with doing things Marvel did successfully when trying to fix audience complaints. Like trying to make it jokey after complaining about it being drab and/or unfun instead of looking at why Marvel is so successful with that by making it only as serious as costumed heroes can be and let any humor or levity come casually from the moment.

    • @waynebevans319
      @waynebevans319 8 років тому

      I agree. Marvel didn't just come out with The Avengers, they meticulously unveiled it. Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, all of these were successful in their own right. Then they brought those elements together for an even bigger and successful movie. Then they did it again, with sequels to those films, successful additions to the universe (Ant-Man, GOTG) and a sequel to The Avengers. And there's more to come!? Marvel is kicking ass, but it's mainly because the planning was... "uncanny". (Shameless Marvel joke:) DC is fucking up because they're looking for one movie to achieve the same success as The Avengers, it can't be done. What they should've done was gave Harley and Joker they're own movie (or it could've been a Joker movie with Harley in it) But, it would've been a chance to connect with her character and explore her background with Joker. Do the same for Deadshot,
      Batman (Obviously),
      The Flash (in connection with Captain Boomerang) These characters are well deserving of their own movies, and the movies would handle character development. Then put 'em all together in a movie like Suicide Squad. That IS the recipe and Marvel is following it Marvelously.

      WB had hoped MoS to gross closer to 1 billion dollars (remember that Iron Man 3 was released the same year) and since the Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises both topped 1 billion, you'd think that a film featuring the DC holy trinity would easily top that.

    • @MaximumSpider19
      @MaximumSpider19 8 років тому +2

      Well to play Devil's Advocate here, I think the only reason The Dark Knight made as much money as it did was because of the death of Heath Ledger, and Rises made the money it made because it was going off the hype of the last movie. None of them really had anything to do with Batman himself. What WB/DC have to focus on is making sure the product is of good quality rather than just rely on what popular character is in the product in order for it to sell, which was BvS's ultimate downfall. It seems like with Suicide Squad they're learning since I hear the Joker is barely in the movie. You would think that since he's popular they would put more focus on him.

    Midnight's Edge: I apologize for this rant. An open letter to hardcore DC fanboys and others who feel that Marvel is ruining movies for some reason. I love everything Marvel does. And I'm sick these stupid debates about Marvel ruining everything about movies. If a studio is putting out craptastic movies, then it the studios fault. Look at DC. They want to create a cinematic universe similar to Marvel's but they just don't know what the hell they are doing. They slap their movies together as fast as they can and then put out a product that sucks. Say what you want about Marvel, but I love their movies and not just because I'm some sort of Marvel fanboy or something. It's because Marvel puts out fun, exciting and easy to enjoy movies which is what I think superhero movies should be. And what is this dumbass argument about Marvel films all being the same? That just a lame cop out. All Marvel films are not the same and they are not formulaic as people who want to tear down Marvel would have you believe. Sure they are humorous a lot of the time but what the hell is wrong with that? Compare that to DC who I call the "McDonald's" of superhero movie making. DC's formula for making superhero movies is similar to "McDonalds" approach to hamburger making. Make these glorious advertisements showing you a quarter-pounder fresh and hot off the grill in order to get you excited about the sandwich and get you to go to the restaurant to buy the sandwich. But when you get there and see the sandwich in person, it looks nothing like it did in the commercial. That what DC does. Trailers that get you excited about a movie in order to get you to go that opening week and disappointing you with the actual movie. Here's the list: MOS, BvS and now Suicide Squad. How is that Marvel's fault? David Ayers, director of Suicide Squad, was given six weeks write the script for Suicide Squad. Six weeks! Just so DC/ WB could meet some stupid deadline. I'm surprised the movie wasn't worse. Guess that's Marvel's fault too? BvS is even more atrocious and Zack "SUCKER PUNCH" Snyder had three years to work on that movie. DC fanboys are ruining the DCEU by not insisting upon quality and supporting DC no matter what. This has to stop if the DCEU is going to improve it's track record. And that goes for Sony and Fox with the exception of Deadpool which was excellent.

    • @megatondestron9398
      @megatondestron9398 8 років тому +1

      The reason people are saying Marvel is ruining film is because just about every major franchise trying to come into existence currently is trying to copy what Marvel has. The problem is none of these people are taking the time to actually build an expanded universe.
      Remember Sony and it's attempt at it with Spider-Man? That failed because aside from trying to appeal to a wider audience, (tweens) they were trying to plant seeds of things to come at the expense of the story Marc Webb was trying to tell.
      I distinctly remember someone online said (I won't name him) that because of Marvel inter connective approach it was causing film to revert to the serial style of the past. And then said it would cause film making to crumble because film can't go back to a old ways. Except serials were like a film but made like TV shows and if you wanted to see what happens next you have to come back for the next part. Marvel's films are full stories with things here and there for the next film and others, but on their own they're complete stories that don't force you to go back. You can just see what hero you want to follow and ignore the others at your leisure.
      Again Marvel is not ruining film, it's everyone else trying to follow their example, and failing at it.

    • @rvl480van5
      @rvl480van5 8 років тому +1

      MegatonDestron: Agreed. Studios need to take responsibility for their own failures and stop trying to say Marvel is the cause of their downfall. Take the time and effort it takes to make good movies and the money and success will come. The sad part about DC is their job is so simple. MAKE GOOD MOVIES. Because they've already got people who want to like their movies and want DC to do well and that includes myself so all DC has to do is take the time to make their movies good. But that's not going to happen as long as Zack Snyder is allowed to continue to shit all over the DCEU. DC/WB's first and probably most important move is to get rid of Zack "SUCKER PUNCH" Snyder! Also the DC/WB studio itself needs to keep it's nose out of the movie making process and let the directors, except for Zack Snyder, do their jobs.

    • @megatondestron9398
      @megatondestron9398 8 років тому +1

      RVL480 Van WB is the problem in this instance, they've always been the problem. Tim Burton was still a developing director who rose fast due making hits like Beetle-juice early in his career. That gave execs reason to give him, Batman 89. Now apparently he was limited in what he wanted to do for that film. Also he was limited while doing Batman Returns, which I can't see considering everything in that movie. Now I'm sure many know the reason he was taken of director duty for Forever was the backlash parents gave about it being "too dark." I wouldn't say dark but directionless, incoherent, and violence and sexual innuendo being cranked up for no good reason.
      So Burton stops directing but is made a producer. And who do they get to direct Forever? Joel Schoumcer, who was an actual fan of the character and his world, (Burton has said he's never read a comic in his life) and who has much experience in film. We all know how his tenure on the Batman series pan out but the thing here is the studio MADE Schumcher direct the films the way they wanted because they didn't want to lose their toy contracts. True Schumacer was a fan of the 66's series (as am I) when is was over he advise they return to a a more mature place for the films to follow.
      I could go into detail about Singer but this is the example I think of the most. WB could care less about DC and only cares about brand. Even so that's no excuse for making a poor product. If they want this series to survive and thrive, they need to a at least the illusion of a damn and put the people who care where they should be and the ones that don't out.

    • @rvl480van5
      @rvl480van5 8 років тому

      MegatonDestron: Agree 100%. I used to blame Shumacher for the downfall of Batman but then I took a look at his track record as a director and found out that he had directed some of my favorite movies like Phone Booth, Lost Boys...etc. So he obviously was a good director and probably could have maybe even improved on the Batman series if he had been given more control of the project and not been forced to make Batman and Robin into a full blown advertisement for toys. So based on the evidence, it looks like WB/DC need to do do two things in order to get the DCEU on track. 1. Fire Zack Snyder and 2. Quit meddling in the movie making process.

    Its kinda sad - Batman the Animated Series was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid, I love the Batman Universe, and while not into comics I had more awareness about the DC-Universe than Marvel. Nowadays? THose DC-Movies just leave me cold. And my rather exclusive opinion is that DC missed the chance back with Nolan. I know everyone loves those, but still that trilogy drags the DCU down...
    Nolan's version lacked all the good stuff that is the Batman-Universe: A dark, dreadful Gotham, over-the-top-insanity countering the grim stoicism and order of Batman, and would have allowed to introduce more and more weird stuff after Batman Begins. just imagine if instead of a third-tier-throwaway-character Cran/Scarecrow would have featured as a prime villain, all with hallucinationgas that REALLY gives nightmarish visions (Arkham Games). Or a Joker that is also funny AND evil (LEdger lacked the funny part sorely, thanks to realism)
    And now they try to achieve this universe where aliens, sorceresses, mutants etc are real and a thing. But they do it all in one go, and still tried too muchin MoS and BvS to cater to the old Nolan-fancrowd. The very least should have been for MoS to wipe the slate clean from Nolan's heritage and fully embrace the DC-Universe with all it has to offer, and not trying to still keep it somewhat real and "dark"
    And now the Squad is supposed to do that? It is simply a bit too late and not well planned. And now they will always look like the try to desperatly copy Marvel: SS = Guardians, Wonder Woman in WW1 gives a Captain America vibe, Justice League will be the Avengers - they are always a step too late, even if they are ahead (Hero vs Hero)
    I needed to write this it seems - I still have some hopes for WW to be entertaining, and Solo-Batman as well - I really eventually want to see Poison Ivy done justice, covering all of Gotham in deadly poisnous and flesh-eating plants

    *SPOILERS*
    Being a core fan of both Marvel & DC I was stoked this got made. Just back from seeing it and yea.. its a mess. Editing changes were rumoured and its obvious. The biggest problem is tone. The theory that Man of Steel's world engine caused the mutations/meta-humans is buried by SS they simply exist. Not only that that tone MoS & BvS laid down is dismissed as SS goes dark & demonic to the point it overwhelms. The main character is Deadshot so yes this IS a Will Smith vehicle DONT let the YT reviewers tell u otherwise. The villains are pointless and the conflict is sooo contrived. The tension building is so false and ineptly done. The only thing the film has going for it is characterization. They nail it with all except Kinnaman as Flag, its truely an abysmal performance with some dire dialogue in parts. There is a mid cred scene that isnt worth your time. Sorry fans but SS really is.. sadly.. CERTIFIED CRAP!

Rewrite, real analyse it all, get better writers, and most importantly, better a director. Snyder is good at action, shite on characters and personality, they should make the movies like the Arkham games. That's an almost perfect representation of batman for me. The classic animated series, and the Arkham games.

    To me, the movie was just average. Didn't leave much impact on me. Though the movie had some obvious tone/stylistic clashes within it. It felt like it was edited by two different people. The first half of the movie has lots of rap/pop songs for each character's introduction. It used neon lettering and flashy colored logos for the squad members.
    While the second half felt like it took itself way too seriously and all the color and style is gone in the latter part. It wasn't BvS levels of dark and depressing, but you can tell some scenes were clearly altered in reshoots to add some light humor into the mix. It just felt a bit messy.

    The problem with these movies is that the plots themselves are not strong. Suicide Squad was a big letdown....story made no sense at all, overblown CGI, way too much soundtrack usage, and the jokes didnt fit the tone of the film.
    I admit I am not a fan of DC comics characters, but I honestly thought all of the trailers were awesome and was genuinely looking forward to it. This is definitely a contributing factor in the really low scores. Its certainly much better than Fant4stic, but Fant4stic looked like shit at first glimpse. SS looked great, but ended up being a incoherent mess which is why it's a bigger letdown.

Now Im starting to consider the critics are bias bullshiters rumor holding some truth because this is the first DC movie I truely gave a damn about. The cast was fantastic. Like you said the editting at the beginning needed a lot of work and they could of changed a lot of the flash backs into current events especially some of them that simply could have been moved in placement like the Katana introduction. The movie I saw wasnt a mess especially when they get into the bulk of it. The beginning was just messy. The bar scene is one of my favorite moments because of the character interaction and screw the people that were complaining about needing none of that and more action

      Yeah I dunno man. I've read several reviews that focus overwhelmingly on the "sexual objectification" and racial-stereotype angle, which IMO isn't a valid criticism that has to do with the movie's filmmaking. It seems like a rather typical David Ayer film, like a blend of *Sabotage* (2014) and *End of Watch* (2012). If you hate both of those films, then Suicide Squad probably isn't for you.

    • @AmazingKevinWClark
      @AmazingKevinWClark 8 років тому

      Todd Bollinger Never seen those but seeing the movie those criticisms about objectification is pathetic. People need to get off their high horse concerning sex they are so afraid of it. Yes Harley Quinn is sexy and yes they use it. As long as they are not forcing the actress to do such things then it isnt a problem to try and attract the audience. As for the racial thing Will Smith has always been doing his one liners and what more do you want from a character calling himself diablo and who is a gangster. He was in fact the most humane one of them all after what happened with his family.

    When I first heard Warner was making a Suicide Squad movie, I was predisposed favorably toward it, especially when I heard Harley Quinn was going to be in it, and played by Margot Robbie, who I still think was an excellent choice. of course, I felt similarly to Batman vs Superman when that was first announced.
    Unfortunately I grew to hate Suicide Squad because the aesthetic struck me as ugly. As soon as they released the promo photo of Leto's Joker, I was completely off on the movie. This was compounded when I saw the look they made for Harley.
    I was never convinced one way or the other if the movie would succeed, but I wanted it to fail.

    The biggest issue with Suicide Squad is the writing. The actual Squad consisted of seven characters, one of which was pretty generic solider, and they killed off a potentially interesting character to show that the threat of death through head explosion was serious. Two of the seven person group kind of hogged most the spotlight, a third got a bit of it which proved pointless and the other four were give very little in terms of actual relevance. The put the Joker in the ads, which boarders on false advertising for the amount of screen time he has, and the ending just sucked.
    It's not as bad as Cat Woman, no idea about F4 since I won't see it, but the rushed writing shows.

    I'm interested to hear what you guys think of Suicide Squad. I know the reviews from critics are bad but from what I've seen from the UA-cam movie reviewers it's been fairly positive. I wonder if the critics have some sort of hate for DC films or WB in general. Still going to go watch Suicide Squad on Monday.

    I just hope that this won't set a precedens for other DC movies. Because they may be box office failures, but at least they are coherent movies. This info about the troubled production gave a lick of hope that they will prefer to make the movie as intended instead of hastily recuting it at the last moment, because it still does not work.

    The whole mess began with cramming three movies worth of content into one Batman vs Superman film. So if the studio still doesn't understand what they did wrong, there is very little hope for the DC movie franchise. Just give people a Afleck Batman movie and forget about the rest _(or you could ask Marvel for some help)_.

    What lead to the problems at Warner? Cheapness. Warner chose Snyder to direct MoS because he had made 300 for cheap and it made a ton of money. They wanted to get someone that would do that, make a movie under budget and make money. Remember that is the reason Josh Trank was picked for Fant4stick, he made Chronicles for nothing and it looked great. But what is required for independant movies doesn't always go well for big mainstream movies. Guys like Trank and Snyder should never do big blockbusters for a general audience. They have different sensibilities than most people gravitates to. MoS got mixed reviews. Instead of picking another director, they stuck with Snyder for both Justice League movies and being the guy to lead the DCCU and here we are.

    It saddens me to see that greed, big egos and fear mandate the creative processes of WB made superhero films because there is much potential in DC and Marvel's Fantastic 4 and Spiderman, but these people just seem to fuck it up to the point I don't want to watch anything in my genre's of interests if it bares their WB brand on it. The viewer doesn't care about contracts. They should've just continued from Nolan's Batman trilogy. Only the storyline with the joker would've been the most tricky part, but that's up to good casting and daring to take a chance.

      Instead of RISES, they should have done a movie to introduce Robin, some DC films, such as a Superman that isn't dower, no Green Lantern 2011, and then maybe a DARK KNIGHT RETURNS adaptation, in order to a Justice League movie. And maybe a Nightwing movie so that they could allow the possibility for a live action TEEN TITANS movie and have Deathstroke as the villain (since they don't have to call him by Slade like what they had to do in the 2003 series).

    • @dragonphoreal

      +Brandon Dozier by introduce Robin I do mean a 3rd Batman movie doesn't doesn't conclude the series but rather is about Batman recruiting and training a young Robin, as long as it isn't a remake of Batman Forever that is.

    WARNER BROS it's not hiring directors or writers , they're hiring fall guys or scapegoats, just to have someone to redirect the hate on when their mess hit the fan (pun intended) , that it's the reason why zack snyder it's still there, so he can become the punching bag.

    .. very disappointed w/ the suicide squad. i have been a big fan of the comic books for years. this movie is not like the comic books and that is a shame. katana and croc were completely unnecessary. what was the squad's mission? directors should look at how nolan's batmans worked. he started w/ a compelling villain and built the rest of the movie around that.

    Can anyone trust Rotten tomatoes anymore, I never did to begin with but after Ghostbusers they're certified biased. Based on the trailers I don't think it's remotely possible that this movie could be any worse than Ghostbusters 2016 yet that movie has a rating of 73%...my ass!

    I think the biggest problem with DC movies is they still are trying to shoot "superhero" movies where Marvel is trying to make them into a Spy movie, a period piece or some other genre... "Superhero" movies aren't really a genre... If a film is just based on like: "Oh hey, this guy has powers" then it's just going to flop. That's a very tired concept.

    COMIC BOOK FAN BOY STANDARDS:
    Hate on actors when they are first announced and when they see them in the movie claim you always love them.
    Lower your expectations and settle for mediocre comic book movies instead of demanding a product deserving of your hard earn money.
    Start a ridiculous fan war between brands of comic book companies to prove you are a "true comic book fan", but end up feeding into the stereotype that people have about retarded fan boys.
    Blame the critics instead of the people responsible for making shitty comic book movies.

      Same thing with video games; in the 90s SEGA uses marketing to deliberately causes a console war between SEGA and Nintendo for publicity, and this continues to this day with XBONE and PS4 for no reason at all.

    I just came back from Suicide Squad, with Batman v Superman I saw the problems some of the critics had, but with this movie I don't see half of the problems the critics had. It's definitely not the next Dark Knight but It at least deserves a 50% on RT. The movie is better than BvS and less boring.
    Overall I would give this movie a: 7/10.

    I am not convinced that the Rotten Tomato's certification is valid anymore. Ghostbusters was certified "fresh" but it is sucking at the box office. Suicide Squad is certified "rotten" and it is out performing Ghostbusters in just one week. Same for Star Trek: Beyond: certified "fresh" and getting beat by the "rotten" Suicide Squad.
    How is that possible unless the certification process is crap?

    I disagree with one thing, though... Marvel Studios is a movie studio that makes all kinds of movies, with the common thread that they all feature Marvel characters. And that's part of their strength. It's not a matter of "Marvel movies have jokes and DC movies don't." Marvel makes these movies in the style that best suits the character, and a good character is what audiences find compelling.

    The movie is a mess. Warner killed it. It's more like two movies (first half is a comic book action and second half is a below average zombie movie) and collection of music clips, and the latter part is actually the best. Despite the movie being far worse than BvS, I somehow enjoyed visuals, some scenes, OST and Joker. The plot and the dialogue are complete mess though, there are so many problems with it that it's easier not to say anything about it. The humor is forced, unfunny and looks out of place (thanks, WB, for messing up the movie even further, yes). The whole thing with "friends" is pathetic and miserable, especially knowing the original comic book.
    People in the cinema though seemed to like it, and I see a lot of positive reception from teenagers on the Internet.
